“Piggies” is another engaging book by the lovable duo, Audrey Wood and Don Wood and the book is full of the adventures that ten little piggies have while they sit on the fingers of a small child and doing crazy acts on each finger. “Piggies” is a truly fun and imaginative book for children who love pigs and would love a book that they can read over and over again.

Piggies was a fun read with very well illustrated pictures. Piggies was about all the fingers on your hand and they are referenced to different piggy’s. Like I have to fat little piggy’s referring to the two thumbs. Two smart little piggy’s referring to the two pointer fingers. The pinky fingers are called two wee little piggy’s. The author describes different things all the piggy’s go through like hot weather, cold weather; they can be dirty or clean. When it’s time for bed the climb down to th...more
Piggies is a book that anyone can enjoy. This is not a text heavy book by any means but the illustrations make up for it. You don't even need words for this book, the pictures tell the story themselves! This book would be a great tool in teaching children about plays on words. In this story you see the person in the picture talk about their "piggies". When we think about piggies we think of toes, but in this book it literally means little pigs! They dance around on the person's hands and are doi...more
Piggies is a very different approach to the classic “this little piggy went to the market” fingers and toes game typically played with babies. The ten interestingly dressed piggies are depicted doing a series of opposite activities. They piggies are hot, then cold, clean, then dirty. The piggies end by running down a baby’s belly and taking a nap.
The artistic style is rather interesting. The hands that the piggies are on are done in a fairly realistic manner. The piggies themselves are very odd...more

Really great book for children to work with finger dexterity/isolation, age 3-7, for storytime especially. Love the perspective of showing little hands for the book. The illustrations are interesting and lively - kids like to come up and look. The downside is not necessarily having both hands available to do the finger movements with the child to demonstrate while you're reading. But it can be worked around with a great group of active caregivers to demonstrate the double hands while you do the...more

A favorite of mine for Lap Time - storytime. I love the silliness. 11/4/11
Used for Lap Time today. Need some more young piggy stories.

Piggies, is written by Audrey, and Don Wood, and illustrated in oil by Don Wood. This book told a cute short bedtime story that is great for younger children. It's about 10 little piggies who play and dance from fingers to toes right before finally going to sleep. I loved the illustrations and I felt they were well constructed to get the younger readers interested and with each picture it really helped bring the story to life. Definitely one of the cutest bedtime stories I've read!
This book is a great bedtime story about the “Piggies” on a human hand. The “Piggies” are fingers and toes and this book explores different ways to play with them. I think this book is great for babies because a caregiver than play with the infant’s hands and feet as he or she reads the book. The pictures in this book are incredible and I think that it would draw a baby’s attention to the artwork. This is a good book to stimulate hand and finger movements.
This book has hilarious, beautiful illustrations. I remember checking it out from the library as a child, so I found it to read for my daughter when singing "Where is Thumbkin?" reminded me of it. I got the board-book version at our library, but it doesn't really attract the attention of an infant. Save it for a child who is ready to participate in finger-plays and can really look at the pictures with you.

Ever since I was a little girl, I loved the "This little piggy..." poem said to me while my mom played with my toes. When Isabelle brought this up to me at the library, I was delighted. The illustrations were really cute, and the writing was done in a way that adults and children could both appreciate.
Definitely pick up and play with your child's toes or fingers while reading it.

This was a story time read today at the library. I didn't hear every word since there was a bit of baby confusion happening during this one. But, I wasn't in love with the concept of the art, with an image on each finger. I did kind of like the hot, cold, and dirty fingers. Found the mischievous fingers at the end a bit unsettling, too, almost like the fingers were possessed.
"Piggies," or fingers, are personified in this book- what happens when your piggies get hot, cold, dirty, clean, etc.
I LOVE this book. I didn't even SEE that it was by Audrey Wood before I said that I loved it. So there.
The only sad part is that, like most of Wood's books, you have to be up close to really appreciate them.

The words are very simple merely describing the pigs on each page. There are not many words, but the illustrations are what will really grab your attention. There is so much detail on each page. It was fun for us to watch watch each little piggy would do when they were wet, dirty, etc. We especially loved watching the fat piggy eat on each page.
Make sure you have good light and clean glasses before attempting to read this. There's so much detail in which to revel - it's the book read in the part of the bedtime ritual *before* tucking into bed. My favorite piggy is of course the smart one on the right hand, who is reading (or ocassionally writing) in *almost* every scene.
Refers to each finger as piggies sometimes their clean and sometimes their dirty, but not at bedtime. Amazing illustrations.

Piggies is simply written, delightfully illustrated, and a perfect book to read aloud to wee ones before bed. I sometimes catch myself wondering why these little piggies are drawn on fingers and not on toes, but it doesn't much matter - it's still lovely.
Piggies is a creative children's book that can instill lessons about bed time. It shows the relationship between girl piggies and boy piggies with all different types of bodies and personalities. This book also discusses different activities they take through out the day, therefore, it is very relate-able for young readers. This book could be used as a fun read-aloud or exercise for silent reading practice.
