This was a great escape over Christmas. As a sucker for romance and especially second chances I found this free download and I am really glad I read it.
The story starts in 1994 when we meet Kip Turner. Maths totally bored Kip but he needed to get a pass in maths or his parents would not let him pursue his love of sport. After requesting "pass out" to the toilet his eye is caught by uninspired, regurgitated essay's stuck on the English notice board, but one catches his eye. "My Future Plans" by M...more

I got Second Chance Romance as a freebie from Amazon - apparently they price-matched Amazon. I enjoyed the story of Kip and Mandy, and their second chance at happiness. I almost didn't finish reading the book, though, honestly.
Why? Because of the grammar / lack of editing / lack of proof-reading / call it what you will. There were several to / too errors, missing letters, missing words, punctuation all over the place. Several is an understatement - there were errors at every location of the book...more

I think this is one of my new favorites. The woman in the story doesn't have the perfect body (not that that matters) but in most books it seems to appear that way. Anyways she was the nerdy girl with no friends and the popular jock fell in love with her. I also loved the way it was told from each person. It is nice to know what each one is thinking about the other. Not just a one sided story. I liked this book so much that I am looking into others from this series.
I think the storyline is a good one. The characters are well developed. There is a warning that the sexual content in the book may not be for everyone.

Facebook has a lot to answer for!
I enjoyed this book - it was light hearted and easy to read. Pretty much an 'in between' book. A book you read when you need a break from your ever increasing TBR pile!
The premise of this book is very similar to some of the others in this genre. It is generally about a boy and girl from the past, they are no longer together. Girl has a baby (not his) and then after some Facebook stalking boy find girl, girl response and a relationship builds from there. The idea...more

It took a few pages to get into the flow of this one, but surprisingly it proved really quite good .... even eliciting a few tears at the end.
The "hero" for the want of a better word, Kip, annoyed me a bit sometimes with his gently gently approach - I did think a couple of times "man up", but then again maybe that is why the lovely Mandy loved him so, setting aside his killer body and bucket loads of money that he made as a NHL player!

Frankly, grammar errors here and there. Also, I hadn't much liked this particular storyboard to begin with. Something about high school sweethearts concept just has a natural way of disagreeing with me. This concept, rash decisions and maturity completely undeveloped which to determine whether truly "loving" another human being.

Okay this one is not perfect. There are various grammar and other typos that even I can point out with my sorry editing skills but come on it's a free book what do you want from her?. However, this had to to be one of the sweetest stories. Kip was the perfect guy who never got over his first love. Mandy on the otherhand was once again the typical insecure annoying female determined to push him away. The difference between Devin and other writers with this type of bitchy character is that she kne...more
Completely forgettable. It had the potential to be a really good story, but missed the bar. The grammar was awful, sentences were cut off in mid-thought, spelling errors on one too many pages for me to keep from wanting to scream.
Plot was cute, but I wanted so much more. It seemed like this could be just any two people doing day to day stuff. Nothing stood out.
It wasn't quite "smut" or "erotica" but it seemed like it wanted to be. Threw the story off with the random and not quite finished sex...more

Such a great book that tells the tale of love lost and then found. Mandy meets Kip in high school and they fall in love. She is shy and a little overweight while Kip is the popular hockey player who could have any girl he wants. He wants Mandy and they date for a while. Then she lets him go to follow his dream while she tries to move on with her life. Through the pages of Facebook, they reconnect and discover they're living only an hour away from each other. They fall in love with each other all...more

I got this book as a freebie on Amazon.com so I thought, why not try it? The cover looks kind of silly but I guess you don't need to spend much time on a cover if you're book is only available as an ebook. The thing I don't understand about this book, is why it has so many spelling errors and missing words, or words in places where they shouldn't be. It makes me wonder if she let anyone proofread it before it got published. For me, it was kind of di...more

I have this book 3 stars because of the wonderful storyline. Who isn't a sucker for 2nd chances. If you can ignore all the grammar errors and some of the confusing transitions, it is a great book. I loved the fact that the main male character was perfect in every visual way possible and the woman was not. It made it not so much a fantasy and i loved how she had insecurities about her weight as most women do. As I said, a great read if you can get past the fact that this book did not see an edito...more
Again another book that does too much telling and not enough showing. The story/concept was cute: Ugly girl dates popular guy in high school, popular guy gets hockey contract they go their separate ways only to rekindle ten years later. It could have been a really sweet book *if* the author would have spent more time focusing on secondary plots, motivations, and descriptions rather than simply giving us a play-by-play narrative.
While this was not as cheesy and cliché as romance novels usually are, I find nothing spectacularly amazing about this book. I don't mind the time I spent reading this book since I did enjoy it. It was full of cuteness and happiness things, but perhaps too many of those things. The author could have used more detail in certain places, though I do not know if she meant to do that.

was an okay book, the story line was good, but the writing was not the best. it was confusing in some areas as to who was saying what, and the feelings of the characters were never really followed (like when he freaks out that he was forgetting he was having sex with her and not some faceless nobody) it never really expanded on that. the sex scenes were pretty good.
Not bad but a bit draggy for me.
Kip the Jock and Mandy the chubby insecure nerdy girl.
It's good to know that its not how you look but how you are as a person that made Kip fall in love. So for that I'm glad that Mandy is not the typical slim girl that normally features in most stories.
No matter the breakup at least they got their second chance.

Cute romance novel- cookie cutter plot. Enjoyed it.

I did like this book but it was kind of hard for me to follow when they jumped between flashbacks, and the present. I also kind of found it annoying when they would jump like a couple days or weeks forward and I be rereading to figure out was going on. I don't know it was entertaining enough to keep me reading.
Yes, there were grammar and editing errors. But if you can get past that, there's a nice story here. Maybe I identified with the single mom aspect. I enjoyed kip and mandy. I liked the effort he put into being in her life, and I understood her bit of loneliness and anxiety about moving forward. I flew through this book and immediately downloaded the others.
The story was ok, but there seemed to be potential underlying plots that were not developed and I kept thinking they would be--especially the issues with the ex. The other BIG issue was the grammar, missing words, wrong words, and story transition--at least edit it correctly for he vs. she in the sentence.
Got this book for free on my iPhone kindle. Thought I'd give it a shot even though it's not the style of book I normally read. I think the story has potential but as it is, not very good. It was also very distracting the number of typos and errors there were. At one point the main male characters name, Kip, was misspelled as Crip. It definitely needs work and refinement. I'm glad it was not something I paid for though.

Typical romance, no surprises here. But the writing flowed well and it had a easy to read romance. I will most likely read more of Asrai Devin books, as a good romance is a great way to break up all the crime and mystery books I like to read. Keeps me from losing my faith in the human race.
