If you look up 'shoujo' in the dictionary, there is a picture of this manga right next to it - the misadventures of a pretty and talented, yet also quirky and loud-mouthed high school girl who gets a part time job making wedding gowns at a store run by two unrealistically sexy and, against all odds, heterosexual men in their early twenties... it could not be more shoujo if it tried! I like shoujo, but I'm frankly astonished by how much I enjoyed this book, far more than I expected, since the who ...more

Recommends it for: Most Shoujo fans! People who like violence, "sexual harrassment," and crack! XD

Okay, okay, so! This is one of my MANY times reading through this series! And I've got to say, it's fantastic!! It's so readable! You can just fly through these with such ease and eat them all up! I began to notice a pattern when my sister first bought this series with only the first several volumes. I read one...had to go pick up the other instantly. Then I read that one. And then I was after the next one! And before you knew it, I had gotten to the end of all the volumes that had been released

For me, The start was a bit slow so i put it off for a bit. But then when i came back to it i LOVED IT!

I don't know. Seems to me like a really average shojo series. Full of laces and wedding dresses, sweet as sugar. Probably too sweet for me.

This manga is adorable! The art itself is beautiful and elegant, with really clean, crisp lines and characters beautiful enough to be models. I first read this when a friend had lent me her copy a few years ago, so I'm basically writing this review out of what I remember, as I do not have an actual copy of the book myself. The manga is about a girl named Ageha who has some serious talent when it comes to sewing. She's always looking up to her elder sister, whom everyone adores because she's a gr ...more

My first thought: Omg Ageha is so cute! And spoiled. My second thought: Wow she is a decent girl after all.

The Plot
Ageha gets the job of a lifetime - making her sister's wedding dress. Ageha loves making handbags and other accessories, so when one of her sister's dress makers hurts his hand she jumps right in to help! And thus begins Ageha's adventures at the fashionable Velvet Blue Rose.
Even though this sounds like a standard shoujo manga, it is definitely not. It's like Ouran High school Host

This was another grab at my Border's going out of business sale. I was in the mood for some light shoujo manga, and this fit the bill perfectly. V. B. Rose is a bridal shop run by two young, handsome men (what else would you expect from a shoujo manga?). At the start of this series, we meet young high school girl Ageha who has a knack for making accessories (mostly bags and purses) with a trademark butterfly pattern or imprint (her name means "swallowtail"). Her bags have become very popular by ...more

Massively cute. Although this piece fits squarely into the shoujo genre in terms of storytelling and conflict, the lovely bags of the "Ageha Colleciton" are tantalizing. Additionally the dress-making and barrage of other fashion present in this story is simply delightful. As a teenage boy i would often read fashion magazines with total envy and Velvet Blue Rose is the perfect mixture of inspirational textiles and teenage angst. Highly recommended!

I didn't expect to find this series as ridiculously enjoyable as I did. It's pure shojo fluff of the highest grade. The artwork is excellent and the plot generally fast moving. The characters are very likeable, although the heroine can come off a bit bratty at first. However, she improves fast, and I love the fact that she has skills and a passion in life other than being kawaii and chasing some boy she hardly knows! I really like the way she and the guy she eventually falls for encourage each o ...more

V.B. Rose when I first picked it up I put it back down almost instantly. But last July I grabbed it again and my friend gave me a weird look. Its usually not the kind of stuff I read but I really did like this manga. Its was really funny and very enjoyable. He characters just seem to come to life in this series. This is the first title I have read by Banri Hidaka and I'm going to look into her others. I showed a few of my friends this series and they all loved it. The characters are really enjoy ...more

I quite liked her older sister and her best friend and some of the fashion talk. Ageha's relationship with her sister was sweet and I admired her work ethic and determination, but she (and the story overall) were just too melodramatic for me. Since they ARE such quick reads, I probably will look into the next volume just to see where things go, but I can't muster up any enthusiasm for a continuing relationship between Ageha and Yukari and Mitsuya.

Shojo manga for the Etsy set! I am amused by the mangaka's unabashed glee in the floofy and sparkly, and really charmed by the focus on Ageha's relationships with her sister Hibari and her friend Mamoru. (Mamoru is particularly awesome.) Also, it's easy to see how Hidaka's art and storytelling has improved over the years; V. B. Rose is significantly better than her earlier I Hate You More than Anything.

Another great Hidaka series, this one features a totally scatterbrained heroine who works in a bridal dress-making shop called Velvet Blue Rose (Hence the title) with two very hot guys! :D The story is excellent and the characters are good. I like watching Arisaka and Ageha's hesitant attempts at romance. Also, characters from "I Hate You More Than Anyone" make guest appearances, which makes me very happy! ^_^

I love the art style and was really excited to read this after reading an excerpt of it in Shoujo Beat (or something).
I...won't be continuing this.
The girl REALLY doesn't have an interesting personality.
She's attached to her big sister. Big sister wants to get married. "I won't allow it!" says girl. Boo hoo.
And the prospective love interests are a big NO. God, no.
Jenna
Was cuter and more entertaining than expected, but the drawing style still made the two a tad too feminine even for pretty-boys. But I did find the main character sympathetic. I wish they had shown more detail on the process. "Atmosphere" reminded me of Antique.

SQUEE! This book is soo cute! I've bounced from Manga to Manga, finding some that I like and some that are horrible, but this is so cute! I recommend it to anyone who has a half hour to spare, and who doesn't mind a bit of fluff in their diet! :)
Maddie
I absolutely adored this book! Ageha reminded me of myself is so many ways! I can't wait to pick up the second one...tomorrow!!! It's funny, light hearted and a fantastic quick read.

This series looks like a lot of fun. All the characters seem to have entertaining personalities and it looks like the relationships will be fun to watch and see how they develop.

I knew the mangaka was familiar but I didn't realize she wrote one of my favorites, "I Hate You More Than Anyone". If you've read it, you have a small bonus for you.

This is a great Shojo series so far, I've only read Volumes 1-6 so far. Lots of sewing, fashion design, & romance!

This is a great shojo for girls who love fashion. This wasn't really my thing, but the art was really nice in it.
Kimberly
The main character in this is really clingy and kinda annoying, to be honest.
But the art was nice. :)
