I don't usually write a review but I would recommend this book to anyone who would like a peek through women's everyday struggles. Lets also keep in mind that this book was written almost a 100 years ago and sadly this is still relevant in our society.

Very realistic and sad. I feel like I have been to 1917 Madrid and been a poor woman fighting to get by. Dramatic, in the way old novels are. I think it's made me more empathetic and helped me look at society from another perspective.

Carmen de Burgos y Seguí (pseudonyms, Colombine, Gabriel Luna, Perico el de los Palotes, Raquel, Honorine and Marianela; December 10, 1867 – October 9, 1932) was a Spanish journalist, writer, translator and women's rights activist. Johnson describes her as a "modern" if not "modernist" writer.
