How can anyone resist reading a book called Tootsies? I admit the name intrigued me and tickled me enough to give this book a shot. I’m glad I did. This is the first book I’ve read that is written by Sarah Black and it won’t be my last.
It’s funny how just a few hours can change your life forever. David Miller works as an English professor by day, but he’s really a poet at heart. When his first book of poetry, Sand Creek, is published and gets rave reviews, David is taken out to celebrate. He wak...more

I really liked this story about David, a poet who teaches at a college, and his boyhood friend, Quanah Parker, a Native Indian who inspired much of his poetry.
David has a lot to think about when the life he's been trying to build collapses due to a contrived sex scandal. He retreats to his grandfather's cabin in the woods, thinking that he needs to "test himself", to show that he can be self-sufficient. He has a lack of self confidence that Quanah, who is still there, doesn't understand. To him,...more

"Tootsies" had a great blurb with a lot of potential for not only a glimpse into a kink that is not usually portrayed but also include interesting characters as well. Quanah Parker, native American bear ~ yum. Sounds so good. David, cute intellectual poet ~ adorable. Of course these two belong together.
Once David leaves civilization behind for the run down shack his grandfather lived in things begin to fall apart. Not only for David’s plan, but also for the story. The story seems to st...more

After reading Marathon Cowboys, I tried to do backtrack on other Sarah Black's stories and settled on this one as my second experience, since I just loved the name Quanah Parker Running Bear. I think this is another beautiful piece. I admit, the relationship part is lacking. When Quanah Parker appears in David's life in this second phase of his life, he just swoops in, no question asked. He's just there, David is his, and now it's for forever. I sort of miss the idea of reunion. The ending is a...more
I have never read about a Foot fetish character before, so I didn't know what to expect.
I like the story, and I love the characters specially Quanah Parker who is Native american, and oh boy I do love native american main characters.
He is the one with the foot fetish, that makes him more adorable, not creepy as he is not even aware he has a fetish.
The only thing I don't like much about this author are her sex scenes, there are the most boring, lame I ever read..I want shivers down my spine, I w...more

This is a 50/50 like for me. For everything I liked, there was something I didn't. Nice buildup at the beginning, watching David internalize all this choices; then sudden-onset relationship with no real emotional workthrough. Quanah Parker is an immensely attractive character and easy to fall in love with; but again, no one ever stops to really explain themselves or think through their actions. Idaho is not a natural setting for a gay romance, but it works, and I dig it; but after the initial lo...more
When David’s life seems to crash down he has only one place where he wants to go, Stanley, inside the Sawtooth Wilderness. In that place, when he was only a child, David was happy, and he felt at home, and he felt loved. Quanah Parker Running Bear was the one who loved him, the Native American boy next door, who fed David’s mind up with stories and stories, the same stories now in the first poetry book he wrote.
Even if apparently David is running away from an embarrassing situation, I think tha...more

This quick novella is fun to read and entertaining, yet ultimately disappointing since it never fully comes alive. The characters and plot itself feel truncated, as if the story was meant to be much longer but got cut down to the bare minimum and leaves out a lot of detail and resolution. It’s fun to read, but never lives up to the promise of the blurb and each situation brought up is subsequently dropped almost immediately. There are easy solutions and forgettable problems that make up...more

I was caught up in the idea of the story; a poet runs away to a cabin in a mountain into the arms of his best childhood native American friend. The story itself never fulfills its promise. It ends up feeling passionless rather than passionate and reads more like a very nice outline rather than a full fledge story. What would have helped would be to take a theme--foot fetish, David's 3 steps to prove himself, the sex scandal, Quanah's belief in the two of them being fated and David's doubts, and...more

This is an interesting story and I enjoyed it, Sarah Black has a unique style of writing. I would have loved to have seen more of David's metamorphosis but only because I liked seeing him grow.
My only complaint is the ending felt so abrupt and not fitting to the gently and slowly told story.
The sex scenes are very tame and subtle considering the foot kink going on slightly disappointing!

This has to be my favorite Sarah Black book so far. The whole story was so vivid in my mind; loved the beautiful imagery. Poor David was silly and naïve thinking he could survive the winter in his grandpa’s cabin, but luckily he had Quanah Parker to rescue him. This was a cute, feel-good story that made me smile a lot. Even Quanah Parker’s kinky foot fetish was adorable!
