I'm waffling between two and four stars. If I rated it on the erotica only, I'd give it four stars. If I rated it on the dialogue and plot, it'd be two. Decisions, decisions. Maybe I'll have made up my mind by the time I type all this up.

The Characters: Lacey is an ER nurse and is in love with her brother's best friends, Mason and Tyler (they're all cops). Mason and Ty live together and are lovers, often bringing in a woman to round out the fun. Mason is terrified of being thought of as gay, so...more

WOW!!! This book was so much more that I was expecting!
After learning the unexpected news of her police officer brother’s death, Lacie Daughtry turns to his best friends Mason and Tyler for support.
Even though Lacie has thrown herself at Mason and Tyler, they have rebuffed her advances. But when they are all three lost in grief and Lacie comes into danger, the men must protect her.
My Thoughts:
HOLY HELL!!! This book was so hot it made my ki...more

I loved, loved Night is Darkest, it takes a really good book for me to say that. At the time I first read NID, reading about committed menages, BDSM and m/m was fairly new to me, that being so, unless it's written well I still get that kinda ick feeling. *POSSIBLE SPOILER* I didn't get it at all with NID and the scene where she took them both at once for the first time was beautiful as was the scene where Ty was able to love Mason for the 1st time.

There is a ton of emotion in Night is Darkest,...more

This could of been a really good menage story. There was quite a lot to like here, but the delivery at times was just sad. Some of the author's choice of terms was just strange.

He calibrated his penetrations to meet the specifications of her ardor.

the devious man mold her desire like a blacksmith honing a glowing rod of molten metal into a precise instrument of destruction.

These sorts of terms just made me want to laugh and did take away from my enjoyment.

Other then this, the plot was good, and...more

3 ½ stars. A lot of hot, sensual, explicit sex scenes (two men and a woman). The story is more of an afterthought but ok.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
Most of the story is about the ménage a trois relationship of Mason, Tyler and Lacey. The sex scenes are arousing and very good. To like this, you need to be comfortable with gay men sex. There is a lot of rear door activity plus a little bondage and pain. The purpose of the book is erotic sex which it does well. Don’t expect a fully fleshed out suspense sto...more

When Officer's Mason and Tyler end up on Lacey Daughtry's front porch in the middle of the night, she knows her brother has been killed. Devastated, her brother's best friends are there to support her in every way, but when Lacey condesses her long denied desire to be with both of them, she has them scrambling one what to do.

Mason and Tyler promised each other that they would wait until Lacey was ready, before they made her theirs. But life got in the way, and for the time bieng Mason and Tyler...more

My heart broke for Lacey and for the tremendous amount of loss she's had endured in young life. Thank god for the devoted men in her life to help bring her through it. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

My Review:
This is a hot, full-length erotic read. It is also a pretty decent suspense novel. For me, though, the appeal of the novel came from the relationship between these three. Mason and Tyler have been best friends for ages. They have also been lovers, but no one realizes that besides them. They were brought together through their mutual love for Lacey, but as the younger sister as one of their other friends, it was a hands-off policy for her. But when her older brother is murdered, Lacey n...more

Friends to lovers is always a sweet read. When the friends are also your older brother's best friends, things can get sticky. When you want two men, it can get even sticker. (no pun intended)

Ty and Mason are pretty hawt in this story. I liked when they got it on. Somehow, I already forgot the girl's name. :/ The menage sex in here is good. It is a mmf which is my preference. The plot of this story was easy to guess. The villians were also easy too. I am not sure if that is because Ms. Rylon made...more

I've read one other title by Jayne Rylon, but this book really stood out for me. The beginning especially had me desperately turning the pages because the raw emotion and care from the heroes was so poignant and wrenching. I loved how alpha both heroes were, because showed such concern and took such good care of the heroine. Tyler was my favorite, since he was such a sweetheart. I'm glad we got to see the softer side of Mason later on, too! The suspense plot dragged a bit for me, and I...more

I loved this book because it seemed real to me.... so often writers write of menage or bDsm and it isn't real there is no way that it could ever actually happen in real life, but the emotions and confusion that is in this book and the challenge of tracking down truths and seperating them from the lies is awe inspiring.

I enjoyed when the characters played around becuse so many of the scenarios I wouldn't have ever dreamed of voicing with a partner or partners but they gave me some courage and hav...more

I'm going 3 stars on this one...its not much in the way of plot or character development, but it was pretty hot. The nicknames were killing me "little one" and "doll"...didn't so much work for me, but I love some man on man action! Quick enjoyable read, but more of a guilty pleasure type book

I read this eBook a few years ago close to the release date. I already know I love this series, but I knew listening to Gregory Salinas read it to me would make it even better! As always that man makes everything sound so damn sexy! I love going back through a book I've already read before. I always find new reasons to love the book. It starts off so freaking sad. I cried for the first bit, but the sexy stuff comes soon enough a...more

ER nurse, Lacey, lost her parents 10 years ago. She and her brother, Rob, a police officer, are all they have left... until the night his two best friends, and fellow police officers, arrive on Lacey's doorstep to deliver the devastating news that he'd been murdered.

Rob forbade Mason & Tyler to pursue Lacey years ago. As he lay dying, his final plea to Ty was that Lacey be watched over and taken care of. Mason & Tyler, best friends and roommates, have both desired Lacey for years. They...more

Whay can you say about Jayne Rylon's books.....HOT HOT HOT! If you are a fan of M/M/F, get ready. The sexy duo of Mason and Tyler will knock you socks off. They are struggling with their relationship when the kid sister (Lacey) of their recently dead best friend and fellow officer (Rob)is thrown into the mix. There is plenty of sex, DP, anal and fun games! *wink wink* There is also a mystery and action/adventure to thicken the plot and add to the lure of this book. 5 stars!

OH MY GOD.
This book has everything.
Emotionally strong characters, who are able to tap into their softer sides without coming off as whiny and weak, great suspenseful storyline, and bedroom action that is real and bold and although VERY HOT AND SPICY, is tastefully and lovingly written.

I cannot say enough about how thoroughly in love with this book I am.
As well as already ordering several more books by this author, I will definitely be re reading this one.

Wow this one is so much longer compared to the other books I've been reading of hers.

Not bad at all.

Ty was wonderful.
Mason was a bit controlling for my taste.
Lacey wasn't unlikable...

The plot was alright. Lot more of it than her other series which was nice.

The writing... well, it did occasionally feel repetitive in regards to the feelings and talking about the feelings or thinking about the feelings...

But all in all.. not bad.

Loved this story. Even though Lacey's brother Rob has already been killed when the story begins, the reader learns what kind of man he was through the story and it is so sad that he died so young.
Loved all the characters in this story and Mason's struggle to come to terms with his sexuality.
My only complaint was I just didn't totally see why the bad person was the way they were. That was a little confusing to me.

Once again, Jayne Rylon has provided me with hours of tantalizing entertainment through yet another amazing piece of erotic romance fiction. In the case of this particular book (the first installment in the "Men In Blue" series), the added suspense and danger throughout the story provided an extra element of intrigue and excitement to an already enjoyable read. This captivating book is a real page turner and was impossible to put down. In fact, I have found that to be the case with all of Jayne'...more

3.5 stars. This book was just ok for me. Lots of sex but horrible dialogue during the scenes. It had a plot - not well developed or completely believeable. The characters were mostly lovable but overcame difficulties too quickly.

If you are looking for a book filled with erotic threesomes, then this book is for you. If you are looking for a book with an engaging, suspenseful plot, then maybe not so much.

Just a bit too sappy and predictable for me. I can't stand these MFM book where the woman just hangs the moon for the men and if she doesn't orgasm all damn day they want to cry and moan in agony over their inability to please her. I mean yes, I would love that life and frankly all woman deserve it. Give it to me now. But reading about it for over 150 pages gets annoying after awhile. Maybe it's just me.

I really liked this. It was much longer than I expected it to be, but then there was more to the story than just simply smut. There was a mystery, there were relationships to acknowledge/make stronger, there were barriers to bust through. An enjoyable read, and super sexy. This ends up as a permanent menage, so those of you who don't like that should probably stay away from this one.
Angela
I'd say 3.5 starts....At times it was good, sometimes a little rediculous, most times it was hot & dirty!

I enjoyed it but this is not for those who do care for more then one partner during sex.

3 stars. This book was enjoyable but not great. The sex scenes were hot! Very hot. Especially one near the end where they play a little "game".... Whew! This was an easy, sexy read.
The beginning was just a little bit too set up. If they were so obviously made for each other would her brother really stand in their way? But whatever, it was clear they would all get together so it might as well be quick. When they all did hook up there was waaaay too much "I love you" mushy stuff. Who yells "love y...more

This was a fantastic MFM and MMF menage. This is my first read from this author and I was not disappointed at all. Plenty of plot, and plenty of hot. I don't know what I enjoyed more, the scenes with the boys or the scenes with all three of them, but they were all GREAT. I would have given this book five stars if the subplot with her brother's death had been developed better or even just left out altogether. It seemed very out of place in the story. I reread that section of the book where it all...more

When Lacey's brother is murdered, Mason and Tyler vow to look over her and keep her safe while investigating their friend's death. Growing up, Mason and Tyler respected their friend's hands-off little sister rule, but that didn't stop them from developing feelings for the feisty little heroine. However, now that they're all grown up, resisting Lacey is proving more than impossible for Mason and Tyler, especially after Lacey admits that she has feelings for not one, but both of the men. And who c...more

I've been wanting to read this book for ages. I saw it while poking around the Samhain website one day and was intrigued because it was a bi-menage story (which I love). But it was ebook and I wasn't reading many of those then so I decided to wait the 5 months or so until it came out in paperback. I had very high expectations coming into this book, and I worried I'd be let down, but thankfully, this was a very good book. I enjoyed it a lot.

At first I was a little hesitant to get into this book. It turned me off that the boys were already in a long standing sexual relationship because I prefer to read about how all of the characters get together and develop sexual and romantic feelings for each other. And though I still think that's the most fun, this book really does make up for it. The men still have a long way to go in their relationship when it comes to admitting their feelings for each other and in the bedroom as well. So you...more

Review provided by Black Lagoon Reviews:

Night is Darkest is the first wonderfully enticing installment in Jayne Rylon's Men in Blue series. Full of romance and some really steamy and unforgettable sex, this novel also managed to incorporate a story line that I found compelling even though at times it took a back seat to the more erotic elements. Wonderfully written, highly engaging, this novel is a wonderful start to what promises to be a great series.

What initially captured me with this novel w...more
