Asterix in Belgium (Asterix #24)
What a horror! Chief Vitalstatistix has learned that Caesar has called the Belgian tribes, and not the Gauls, the bravest he knows. Along with Asterix and Obelix, the chief goes to confront the Belgians--who, to his surprise, turn out to be very like the people in his own hometown.

My brother was a missionary in France during the 80's and returned with Asterix figures, books, etc. Since then I seem to have forgotten all about it until seeing it recently in the book "500 Essential Graphic Novels". So I decided to request a copy from my local library.
The Asterix series is light, playful, and has enough content to drive the storyline to the very last page. I wouldn't consider them to be super engaging, but they are enjoyable. Though they were originally ...more

The category that this book fits into on the bingo board is a graphic novel.
I decided to read this book because a graphic novel is always interesting to read and also it was an easy one to pick on the bingo board.
What I liked about the book is that there was many fighting scenes that took place, the books storyline also had many twists and turns making the book enjoyable. Finally the book had images in itso it gave you a better understanding of what was happening in each ...more

One of my favorites (at #24), and maybe the third best Asterix in a foreign country (Britain, Egypt, Switzerland, and Corsica are all in the competition though).
This is the last Asterix written by the orginal writer, Goscinni. The rest are taken over completely by the illustrater, Uderzo. In my opinion the later editions, although still good, and with a couple editions that may be as funny as some in the original series, still lose much of the special magic.

Asterix in Belgium – A&O set off to Belgica to determine whom the local legionaries less like to fight, Gaulish or Belgian warriors
Belgium turns out to be abit less boring than rumour has it. But only a bit.

I love Asterix. I think it´s one of the best comics ever!
Many of these were read and bought while overseas in 1998 & 1999. I'm not even sure which ones I read when, but I did my best guessing!
