Temples lost in the rainforest. Strange inscriptions and ritual bloodletting. Such are the images popularly associated with the ancient Maya of Central America. Could such pressing contemporary problems as climate change and environmental degradation hold the ...more

_The Ancient Maya_ by Heather McKillop is a comprehensive and thoroughly researched overview of this Central American civilization, complete with maps, diagrams, photographs, and many pages of references.

A real good intro to the Maya. I really like it that its divded into chapters of different areas. Bit wish it listed a chronology of mayan kings of each city

This book covers a lot of information about the Maya in ancient days, and is pretty interesting to read, as well. It was required reading for a class, but I chose to keep the book for my own library to finish reading what I could not cover in time during the semester.

Nice to see a new generation of Maya studies emerging. This is a good collection of current theories and recent analyses of discoveries made in the past thirty years of the ongoing Maya historical renaissance.
