Okay, so full-disclosure--Barbara writes for the same imprint (and so publisher) as I do. Still...I loved this book. I totally ID-ed with Evie (except, um, she had more friends than I did), and Francesca was like the Pippie Longstocking of the '10s. Barbara (the author, no duh) had several great, intense story lines going that I didn't know which to obsess about the most.

Okay, actually, I did: Francesca. Utterly unique! I loved her voice, could picture her perfectly and was just *dying* to know...more

This is what Evie's new friend Francesca tells her, and soon enough, Evie's life has had something more like an earthquake. Francesca thinks life is dull unless you go after everything you want and say everything on your mind all the time--and sometimes that includes giving other people a little behind the scenes help to give t

This Is Me From Now On was a great book. It is a middle grade title but I am 18 and had no trouble getting into the story. In fact, I got into it more than I have some other YA books. It was realistic, fun, and full of fantastic characters.

Evie is tired of her boring life but she doesn't realize it until Francesca moves in next door. Francesca is everything that Evie is not and at first she can't stand her. Of course things change and Evie begins to become friends with her. The only problem is...more

I thought this one was an excellent middle grade novel. (also know as tween fiction) It really caught the dramatics of 7Th grade girls and I think Barbara did an excellent job of catching the pre-teen feeling of "OMG! My world is falling apart!" As adults we sometimes think that these problems aren't important but we tend to forget what it was like at that age.
The cast of characters was excellent, as the author managed to show of so many types of personalities within this group of kids. The pers...more

I loved this! It is a really sweet and fun read that tweens and teens would really enjoy.

Barbara Dee is a great writer and I found myself easily immersed in the story. Evie and Francesca are wonderful characters - I loved how real they felt. Evie comes across as really sweet and kind, very witty with her observations. I enjoyed her journey - about friendships and discovering who you are and who you want to be. I absolutely adored Francesca. I loved her individuality and although she is slightly...more

When it comes to tween books and me it's usually a hit or a miss simply because I'm above the intended age for these reads. Thankfully, This is Me From Now On was one huge hit, in my opinion; a book that not only provided interesting, fully developed characters and funny moments but substance as well, one mix I can never never get enough of.

From the first page of This is Me From Now On the reader is thrown into the life of Evie a few days before her big start into the world of middle school. Evi...more

In almost everyone's life there's that one person, the one who changes you for better or worse. They aren't always someone you love or even hate. Sometimes they aren't even someone you talk to, but someone who you've seen from afar. They manage to change the tilt of the world just slightly, it seems, and before you know it your attitude about everything is different. This is was Francesca becomes for Evie and in Evie's case she finds the truest friend she could have ever hoped for.

This book is so perfectly tween! It's such a cute read and it a ton of fun. Francesca is a great character and I love how the author keeps the reader guessing about Francesca all along. We, like Evie, are never really sure what to think about her which makes reading about her that much more fun.

The back of the book makes it seem like this is a story about two girls playing matchmaker, but that's more a side plot. This Is Me From Now On is more a story about tween girls, frien...more

I loved this book from beginning to end. It's a light, enjoyable read, with excellent characters and a plot that I'm sure will resonate with a lot of middle grade students.

Friendship is the order of the day in This Is Me From Now On. They're torn apart, reconciled, and newly appreciated. Middle school (and high school) are murky waters when it comes to relationships, and things can easily change at the drop of a hat. BFFs are forgotten about when a boy shows up, new friends take the place of old...more

A sort of synopsis of This is me from now on
Evie and her two best friends, Nisha and Lily, are happy with their lives and friendship until the day Evie gets a new neighbor, Francesca. When Evie is forced to work with Francesca on a school project it's a life changing experience.

The girls suddenly has this brilliant idea, they're doing a project on the side, matchmaking for their teacher. It...more

Evie’s new neighbor Francesca is a free spirit who wears wild clothes, always seems to be upbeat, and has her own ideas about the importance of homework. First thrown together by Evie’s mom and Francesca’s aunt, the two of them soon bond over a school project and a little matchmaking. But Evie’s long time friends feel she’s abandoned them; they don’t trust Francesca and they want Evie back just like she was.

Evie's a six grader at Blanton Middle. Her Best friends Nisha and lily spent their summer together reading magazines and taking quiz's from them. But Evie's life needed a little jolt. Firstly, many thanks to Barbara Dee for sending me a copy of this book for review. This Is Me From Now on has a target audience that is a tad bit younger (ages 9 - 13) than most of the books I usually review, but I was interested in the premise and gladly accepted the opportunity to share this book with all of you.

My first thought upon finishing this book was that I could have seen myself reading it when I was in middle school. It's generally a light-hearted read that is the perfect little escap...more

This Is Me

by: Barbara Dee

“Sometimes your life just needs a little jolt.” That’s what Francesca told me once, and she was right. I mean, she was wrong about everything, but she was right about that.

At first, Evie doesn’t know what to think of her new neighbor. Francesca’s wild, funny and different from other people. She only follows rules she makes up herself and she doesn’t listen to anyone else.. Evie’s two best fri...more

Evie is a sweet, kind, normal 7th grade girl....translation (according to Francesca, her new neighbor): BORING! Francesa is eccentric, quirky, and sometimes just plain weird. But Evie is finding her more and more intriguing. As Francesa and Evie's friendship develops, Evie finds herself doing increasingly more questionable things, like trying to set up two of her teachers by sending them fake notes and gifts from each other, and slacking off on homework assignments that she needs to complete. The more I read from Barbara Dee, the more I realize how much I love her books. Her latest novel THIS IS ME FROM NOW ON is no exception. THIS IS ME FROM NOW ON is a story about Evie, a middle grade girl who becomes friends with the new girl, Francesca. Francesca is pretty much the opposite of Evie -- she's brave, aggressive, and even a little bit interfering, and Evie's life turns upside-down as a result of their new friendship.

Francesca is exactly what Evie needs at this point in her life becau...more

I am a fan of Barbara Dee. She always writes a very good story.

This time the story centers on Evie, a seventh grader. She is a part of a trio of friends and has gotten into a rut.

In walks Francesca. She is a little strange. She has moved in with her aunt, who lives next-door to Evie. The adults throw Francesca and Evie together, and even though she is odd, Evie feels sorry for her and the two start to have adventures.

Her two other friends feel threa...more

Opposites attract. Evie was a Plain Jane seventh grader. Francesca was Evie’s quirky new neighbor. What ended up happening when these two joined forces was anything but boring.
Boring Evie’s world turned upside down when she started to hang out with weird Francesca. Her two best friends, Nisha and Lily, did not understand and were not at all supportive. I think Barbara Dee did a fantastic job of capturing true middle school emotions as the girls dealt with the situation. For a middle schoo...more

This is an old tale. The new girl stirring up trouble in old established friendships. Barbara Dee makes it fresh and fun though. Evie had a sweet and engaging voice and Francesca is just the right amount of crazy, while having endearing flashes of insecurity. I am also seriously in awe of her clothing choices! There's also a strong message about being accepted for who you are and accepting others for who they are.

Evie's a great role model, although she gets carried away by Francesca's glamour an...more

Why I read this: It looked like a really cute story that would appeal to a lot of the girls in 4th and 5th grade at my school.

Plot: When Francesca moves in, Evie's life is turned upside down. Francesca is beautiful, weird, and has some issues with lying and deception. No matter what she does though, Evie can't avoid her new neighbor and finds herself becoming friends with Francesca. But their friendship is pulling Evie's life in a different direction than she's used to and she's not sure if that...more

Cute fun book. Reminds me very much of my middle school days, full of friends, boys, gossip, fights, and school work. Barbara Dee nails this book spot on for the middle schoolers.

What did I love: the characters, how true to life they were. Francesca wanted a friend and wanted to fit in while retaining individuality. Her life had it's problems but she didn't focus on them. Evie, wanted a change and Francesca offered it, but she didn't want to leave her old friends behind either. As Francesca and...more

Evie was a typical teen going through life trying to fit in with out making a big splash. That all changed when Francesca walked into her life. Francesca is a a little strange but so wild and adventurous she seems to shake some life into Evie. Evie's friends on the other hand didn't seem to trust the new comer. They seemed to sense her immaturity and they believed she wasn't always to truthful. This Is Me From Now On was a quick paced book. I enjoyed the lighthearted and funny nature of the book...more

this a great book. so far, kayla and zane dated, broke up, and now zane likes the main character. meanwhile, nishi just friend-dumped the main character, and the main character and a new crazy friend are spying on two teachers who they believe are in love secretly. After a visit to the beach with her friend, the main-character learns that her friend's cousin has a crush on her but doesn't know she likes zane, so if all this happened at once, this would be a soap but it didn't since I'm on page...more

This was a fun book, definitely a perfect addition to a weekend reading list. Francesa and Evie are two girls thrown together by circumstance, but friends despite the common opinion. The way everday situations turn into outlandish adventures when they are together certainly proves that you can't always judge a book by the cover. The message within this seemingly frothie tale, is true to its core. We write our own stories....so what will yours say!

I am on page 73 and this book is great it is all about friendship and how desicions can really ruin your life. The main characters are Evie, Nisha, Lily, and Francesca. Evie Lily and Nisha have been best friends from kindergarten. Then this project that this history teacher gave is ruining it because Lily and Nisha have to partner up and Evie is left alone. So she had to work with Francesca and she is not so sure she wants to.

Fabulous characters in this book. I, personally, would never wear a necklace of amber with the fossil of a mosquito in it, as Evie did, but I will always be proud of her for wearing it. Simply put, Francesca is very real. I love them both. You should get to know them. Read this book.

I did a school book report on 'THis is me from now on, and I give it a big thumbs up! It faces friend problems and school problems for the main character directly.
