I wanted to like this play more than I did. I appreciate the structure of the play and how it builds toward a clarity of story, but unfortunately the resulting story is not treated with much depth, which is a shame because there is a lot of potential in the piece. Instead there is a lot of surface elements playing off of eachother, which would work if the story was based in something more surface and it was more of a commentary. Shelves: plays, drama, gay, feminist
Sheila Callaghan gets me every time. Her style is poetic but uncomfortable often in the same moment. I had to force myself through finishing this play. I had read several of her other plays before hand and knew that something amazing would rise out of the myriad of sexist, racist, et cetera imagery. I didn't see the light until the very end of the tunnel but I'm very happy that I waited it out.

I really wanted to like this play. I did. I desperately wanted to like this play. But I absolutely hated every moment of it.
