Anybody who likes dogs or owns a dog should read this book. I laughed out loud through much of it --especially in one scened where his dog had been out philandering with the nextdoor neighboor's precious little thing. Peter Mayle writes a series of French travelogs, and this too takes place in France, though it's a little off beat because of the dog aspect. I have to say I like it the best of all.

A Dog's Life by Peter Mayle was an enjoyable and fun read of a dog's life with his owners in Provence, France. I think I got more out of it due to the fact that I have read Mayle's other books: A Year in Provence, Toujours Provence, Encore Provence, and Acquired Tastes. So if you like dogs, like the Provence books, and are looking for a quick fun read ... I recommend this book.

1996 is the first year that my husband and I read this book. It was so imaginative and entertaining that we would take turns reading a chapter out loud to each other before going to bed. It is a dog's memior and if you are a dog lover, this is definitely a must read for you!

So sweet and funny. Written from the dog's point of view, and if you're a dog owner, you'll laugh at some of the things that he criticizes humans for doing to dogs. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes dogs.

We listened to the audiotape on the way to Vermont and it made the drive seem short. It is "pee in your pants" hysterical!
I recommend the audio b/c Someone who sounds like John Cleese is the voice of the dog.

A gift from a very dear friend (who has also been converted to Mayle-ism!), I laughed my way through this one, just like all the other Mayle works...as a dog-lover, this one was particularly delightful! :-)

Mayle let's me know what I'd like to think my dog is thinking, as well as providing his usually terrific sketches of the characters inhabiting the French countryside. Delightful illustrations!

Mayle is a very clever writer. As the owner of three dogs, I could really relate to and appreciate this one! This is a good gift idea for any dog owners you know.
