Wow, this was written in 1863 and it's still a fresh take on the Robin Hood legend! You'll find Dumas' standard and excellent rakish heroes, furious villains, plot twists, secrets, improbable coincidences, and enough love triangles to make an icosahedron. I especially enjoyed how Robin and the other characters we all know and love (Marian, Little John, Friar Tuck, Alan-a-Dale, Will Scarlet, Guy, and Nottingham) have been fitted with unique backgrounds and connections. Dumas reveals them piece by ...more

I found this old out of print Dumas version of Robin Hood at the Central Brooklyn library. It was so old I often had to be careful not to damage the pages while I was turning them. It's the first of a two part series that he wrote in 1872, this version was published in 1920. It's apparently one of his least recognized books because it took some research to find out anything about it; it's not listed on biographical websites.
The story is another tale of that worthy forester called Robin Hood, I

This book taught me about the true story behind the folklore hero widely known to the world as Robin Hood.... The true story of this hero has nothing to do with the movies about him... A must-read for people of all ages!

When I was in year three I had a wonderful teacher who would bring a book from home and read a few chapters of it to us as a treat everyday. Robin Hood was one of these books, after he read it to us, he put it on our tiny bookcase in the room for anyone to read. I devoured it about four times over after he had finished it for the class. Brilliant book.

Jenomže když podobné zjednodušení světa nesdílíte, začnete mít pocit, že hlavní hrdi ...more

I LOVED Robin Hood and everything I could find about his legend when I was a child. Although this book was made into several movies (and most notably was the origin material for Errol Flynn's Robin Hood,) it does stray pretty far from the original material concerning Hood's legend.

This book is written Alexandre Dumas this book has a lot of adventure and drama. My favorite part was when he tried to show the guy that he was a good archer and he hit the dear dead center in the target and the guy was surprised this book is GREAT!!!.

I knew the folklore of Robin Hood, but Dumas created a new character in itself; A Robin Hood that was darker, meaner and more fascinating than even before. Loved it; Read it at the risk of doing miserably in my Vivas but was totally worth it.

Welcome back to Sherwood Forest...

The delights of Dumas’ novels are well known. Less known today are his tales of Robin Hood. With great pleasure, we present these two old works to a new reading public: electronic book readers. "Prince of Thieves" and "Robin Hood the Outlaw" have virtually disappeared from bookshelves; they are now virtual books, accessible to the world from the Reginetta Press.

In "Prince of Thieves," Alexandre Dumas tells his own unique version of Robin Hood's origins and upbri

Molto carino, appassionante e divertente.

I liked it, but only because some parts were about Robin Hood. A great portion seemed to be about Maid Marian and the Merrie Maidens of Sherwood Forest. Not really but there was an awful lot of romance. The first five chapters are almost all about their romantic exploits. Another chapter focuses primarily on Will trying to get all of his brothers married at once. And yet all of that romance is astoundingly shallow. The girl says "yes", they are "happily married" and then years later brief mentio ...more

Such an amazing classic book, and I'm sorry I didn't read it before. It's very well written, I love how Alexandre Dumas portrayed women, he really cherished and appreciated them, and so did all of his characters.

Robin Hood has been given a new identity in Dumas' novel, and he was kind, brave, fearless, and a very good role model to everyone (except for the King), and I loved his every moment, from early childhood til the end.

This opened my curiosity towards other novels written by Dumas, so I ca
