Only His Heart (Only Forever #3)
by
Shawn Lane
Calvin Lassiter is an emergency room doctor who buries himself in his high-stress job. He has no time for a relationship and most definitely is not interested in the new emergency room nurse, Matt Walton. Matt is exactly what Calvin doesn't want—an eyeliner-wearing bad boy who rides a motorcycle.
Matt, however, is intrigued by the stuffy, too-beautiful-for-words doctor, bu...more

I’m starting to like a lot this series of short novellas centering around a lawyer firm whose three partners are all gays. Only His Heart is almost a spin off, since it’s the story of Matt, Nathan’s stepbrother, and Calvin, Barnaby’s brother. Nathan and Barnaby, a couple from the previous novellas, did nothing to let Matt and Calvin meet, but they are working on the same hospital, as nurse and doctor, and so it happens.

In this third book in the Only Forever series, we meet Calvin and Matt. Matt, a nurse at the hospital Calvin works at becomes infatuated at first sight with the beautiful doctor. However, Calvin doesn't make things easy for him and Matt learns he will have to fight for him if he really wants him.
The bet seemed a little far-fetched, but I guess it served its purpose of adding a bit of angst and an obstacle to their story. I liked Calvin's relationship with Barnaby and how even though he is defin...more

Shawn Lane is an automatic buy for me
There is no way I can possibly top what both Ivan and Eyre have said about this book. I will say that the "Only" series is one of the best homoerotic romance series I've read in a long time.
When I met Calvin in Barnaby's story, I honestly didn't know if I would like him or not. At face value, he comes off kind of cold and uncaring so I was a little bit doubtful that I would warm up to him.
How wrong could I be?

This is book 3 in the series which brings us to Barnaby's older doctor brother Calvin and Nathan's step-brother Matt a nurse. Matt is pretty new to the city and sees a hot guy in the cafeteria but gets the cold shoulder. Seems Calvin has a reputation of being an ice-princess. When Matt expresses interest in Calvin, his colleagues bet him $400 he can't get him into bed. Despite Matt being everything Calvin finds repugnant (earrings, rides a motorcycle) he is strangely attracted and giv...more

This is the third book in the series and Calvin Lassiter gets his shot at love in this one. Calvin is Barnaby’s brother and just for the fact that he was there for his brother when he needed him – he is automatically a good guy in my book. I love sibling relationships that seems one thing on the outside but deep down each sibling would do anything and everything in their power to make the other happy.

If the story is longer, I probably wouldn't mind reading how quickly the two jump to bed, have pretty much only sex scenes, and fast resolve in the end. But this is a novella, less than 100 pages ... and when all I can remember from a story is the sex, it's very, VERY unsatisfying. I would like to know more about Calvin (he's intriguing, especially with the scars he carried). It's too bad that his character doesn't fully developed. Yep, this one goes there, to the "not my cup of tea" list.
This one was just so-so compared to the other two. While Travis & Darrel's story had a sparkle to it and Nathan & Barnaby's was made a winner by Barnaby's appealing personality, Calvin and Matt's story felt slow and plodding even when it, in reality, moving quite fast.
Calvin, despite his reluctance to get involved with Matt, nevertheless, lets Matt lead him wherever Matt wants them to go without much argument. While I was fine with this, relieved even, Only His Heart felt like there was...more

OMG! I loved this book! I thought the relationship between Calvin and Matt was very cool to read about. Watching Matt melt the wall of ice around Calvin's heart and firmly place himself into his life was so awesome! Both of these characters were so much fun to read and I loved them both!

This was another fabulous story by Shawn Lane. As usual, the characters were wonderfully described and the plot was engaging. Calvin, despite his standoffish behavior in the beginning, is a compassionate man who has survived much in his life. Matt is outgoing and fun-loving--just what Calvin needs. I'd definitely marry Matt if I could pry him away from Calvin.
I loved that Shawn gave us a glimpse of Drew toward the end of this story. I can't wait to read Drew's own romance.

This third book in the Only Forever series is not taking place at the law firm, like the first two books. Matt and Calvin are working at a hospital, but there’s a connection to the other books, as Calvin is the older brother of Barnaby from book #2. Both brothers stole my heart, with their difficult past and resulting different personalities. This third book is my favorite of the series because of the emotional depth of this story. Here the heartache is caused by a misunderstanding (no smacking...more
It's a lovely romance, but I felt a bit of tension too. I knew there was a conflict coming, I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Matt was persistant, but he made a mistake that eventually came back to get him and he had no one to blame but himself. I really liked Calvin. After meeting him in
Only For Him
, I wasn't sure how appealing he'd be because he seemed so cold and uptight, but my opinion changed after learning his history.

Book three in the Only Forever series is another office romance although this one takes place in a hospital. In this story the brother and stepbrother of the protags from book two get their chance at happiness. Calvin is a reserved man known as the Ice Queen behind his back and Matt is a nurse new to the hospital. I liked them both and found their relationship interesting although I thought the conflict in the story a bit too obvious and predictable. Overall a nicely written, sweet and...more

I really liked this third volume where Matt, the bad boy nurse, goes after Calvin, the icy doctor.
Matt is so determined that Calvin finally gives in. At the first sign of trouble he withdraws - and it really looks bad for a while. Both men need to deal with their pasts, but I think Calvin has the harder job in many ways. I liked that he lets his brother Barnaby (from the second book) help him - he really does need more support in his life.

Another good book from the series!
The dynamic between seemingly cold and stand-offish Calvin and assertive self-assured Matt is fascinating to watch. The future potential crisis was kinda hinted on in the beginning and I was glad things were resolved rather swiftly and sweetly :) Even theassholes nurses managed to redeem themselves, at least partially.
Looking forward for the next story!

I won this one of Shawn Lane's on a comp on her blog, and its a good, warm read, which I enjoyed over my coffee and lunch breaks.
It is a fun doctor/nurse tale, with nurse Matt chasing Doc 'ice queen' Calvin. Matt was quite forward, which may have got him a fist from others, but there is a nice unravelling of stressed Calvin.
