I have to admit that I was not particularly enamored of this book. It was well written, and though it did have a story, it didn't seem that exciting or interesting in many ways. Maybe there wasn't enough suffering or the suffering, if there was any, wasn't articulated as well as it could have been. Is it autobiographical? Maybe partly, maybe not. I guess also the fact that it is mostly set in the US rather than in Ghana is a little disappointing; nor is it really a novel of the diaspora.

Explores the feelings of otherness and inadequacy that come with separation – from culture or loved ones. Insightful.

What I liked about this book is that it brought me back to my university days. Was it really over 25 years ago?? Other than that, it's just an ordinary read, nothing spectacular.
