When DC's lawsuit versus Captain Marvel ended, in the 50s, and the very popular Cpt Marvel comic book stopped publication, the British distributors came up with Marvelman, which continued there into the 60s. The artwork is (below) average and the stories repetitive and simplistic, but this series is the one that Alan Moore re-imagined and turned into the wildly successful Miracleman in the 70s and 80s. Holy macaroni! If you're looking for some fantastic 50's superhero action in all of its glorious and corny brilliance, this book is for you. The opening essay on the history of the creation of Marvelman is an added bonus for fans of the character.

I also appreciate Marvel printing this collection on a more newsprint-like paper, really giving it a nice vintage feeling .

Interesting from a historical perspective, and there are some interesting ideas. But there seems more enthusiasm than skill on display here.
