Homicide detective Kara Gillian has a special talent: she can sense the "arcane" in our world, and there's quite a bit of it, even in Beaulac, Louisiana. She's also a summoner of demons, and works on a task force that deals with supernatural crimes. Her partners are attractive and smart FBI agents, but they're not summoners, and they're not telling Kara why they are on thi ...more

Yes, I really did just read all 3 books in this series in a row. Yes, they were all amazing. Yes, I am now going absolutely crazy because I have to wait until JANUARY for the next book. I don’t know why I do these things to myself.

As I stated above, ‘Secrets of the Demon’ this is the third installment in the fabulousness called the Kara Gillian series. I would not recommend reading this review if you have not read books 1 and 2. Unless you don’t plan on reading this series, which is the sillies

Another amazing book to this series, we have finally reached five stars. It's one of those where the books keep getting better. It's a strange trend in Urban Fantasy with me this year - almost every series, the third really starts blowing me away.

The mystery plot is brilliant - the author certainly has an incredible imagination to be able to come up with so many story lines that are different, have nothing to do with the other books story lines, and are always as interesting as the others. This

I usually don't do reviews for books that are later-in-the-series BUT I'm going to make a plea to a particular group of readers:

1) If you enjoyed book 1 but didn't think it was the greatest OR
2) If you enjoyed book 1 and 2 but found youself slightly bored

THEN

You must continue with the series and try book 3.

Book 3 was so much better than book 1 and 2. I LOVED it. I seriously wasn't even going to continue with the series. I'm pretty hard on series books. I want each book to be a complete book and

4.5 stars, I just love this series. My favorite thing is that Kara is both a real woman and very firmly the hero of these books. She's a regular woman, not a superhero, she's vulnerable, gets her feelings hurt, gets frightened, eats comfort food, has a temper, is just totally real. And she doesn't turn to anyone to solve her problems. So many fantasy books, especially those with hot demons, have the heroine "forced" into letting the demon solve everything for her, and then she gets to be gratefu ...more

Demon Summoning Has Less Vomiting!
Beaulac, Louisiana homicide detective Kara Gillian is in New Orleans, working a case with the multi-jurisdictional task force she's recently joined with FBI Special Agents Ryan Kristoff and Zachary Garner. The task force deals with white collar and "financial crimes"...also known as crimes having a supernatural or paranormal element. The lead singer of the Goth rock band Ether Madhouse has been receiving threats that a demon is intent on eating her soul during h

Diana Rowland has become one of my most favored authors to read. After reading three consecutive books in a row that kept me hooked throughout each one and all having endings that had me whispering to myself "Oh, sh*t! I need more!" while scrambling to find out about the next book, yeah I'd say this is a most favorite series, bar none.

Secrets of the Demon was made into a page turner from the pace set by the mystery surrounding the case Kara is investigating surrounding several murders. The roman

First of all, YES I like this cover. It's really REALLY good. It doesn't make me embarrassed to pick up this book (even though I read these on ebook so it's irrelevant. But it makes me more proud of the genre for sure).

Anyhoo this was a good book, another fine installment in a really fine series. I do have to say I'm MUCH more interested in what's going on with all the demon intrigue rather than the cop stuff which I read MUCH quicker, but it tied in nicely and HOLY HELL CLIFFHANGER MUCH?!?! Rya

Best. Installment. Yet.

I can honestly say, this series is more than freshing, and always on my top list. I really enjoyed both "Mark of the Demon" and "Blood of the Demon", but I have to say, I loved "Secrets of the Demon."

If you haven't read the first to novels in this series, then I suggust you do before reading this novel. You'll get quite lost with the characters actions and backgrounds, not to mention to tension between some characters. Even if it was a stand alone novel, I'd recommend you

I put off reading this book because I just wasn’t very interested, but when I finally did pick it up, I devoured it in less than two days. It was fast paced, fun, and exciting - an enjoyable read. Some of the mysteries surrounding Zach and Ryan finally get cleared up, and even though I called the final bombshell long before it dropped, one of the revelations did manage to surprise me. As with the previous books, the answers you get only raise more questions, stringing you along just eno

Kara Gillian is a homicide detective who can sense the "Arcane" and summon demons. Each book has a stand alone murder case with paranormal elements. Slightly darker UF than most but it's a believable world and you can't help but feel for Kara. The paranormal isn't a widely known fact so she has grown up keeping her distance from people on the whole due to her 'weirdness'. As each book progresses we get to see more insight into her and the circumstances that make her who she is. I'm full of quest ...more

With each book I read in Diana Rowland’s Kara Gillian Demon Summoner urban fantasy series, I am more and more amazed that it is not one of the BIG NAME series in the genre. It’s got phenomenal world building, a tough yet venerable heroine, a captivating love triangle, and a increasingly compelling metanarrative that just gets juicier with each book.

In the previous two books (see my reviews below) a number of delicious details were dropped about the Demo

I love and hate this book at the same time. I'm torn between 4 and 2 stars.
You may think, How the heck can I get confuse with 2 or 4 stars?

Huh! If I knew that then I wouldn't be confused now would I?

For the sake of my own sanity, Let's try the column A, column B method.

In A corner is the reason for giving it 4 stars.

* At the top of the list is the 'unknown' reason of the confusion.
How many books can make you feel so conflicted?
It doesn't matter that the reason is unknown but the very fact tha

So, it’s official–this series just keeps getting better and better. Secrets of the Demon continues to build upon the first two books of the Kara Gillian series–Mark of the Demon and Blood of the Demon–following in the same tradition of combining police procedural with paranormal intrigue and a dash of romance.

Though a direct second sequel, this book is can function well enough as a standalone title, no easy task to carry out. Relevant background i

I love this series! I was disappointed at first that the style of the cover art changed - I thought it was beautiful before - but it doesn't matter. This book was well worth the torturous year-long wait. I don't know if I can hold out for the next one, though!

This book exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. Rhyzkahl had many layers added to him, as did Zack (oh man, Zack...) and Ryan (can he be who I think he is?). Eilahn is a great new addition as well. I liked her a lot, though I was d

Kara and the rest of her "task force" are given a job to guard a band because they have received demonic threats, or so they claim. Kara doesn't think the threat is real, so imagine her surprise when something does snatch the lead singer off the stage. It isn't a demon, but it reeks of the Arcane. When a string of murders pop up that have that same Arcane reek, she knows she has to get to the bottom of. Meanwhile, Kara is still bound to the Demonic Lord, Rhyzkahl, and she must keep up her end of

**Note** First of all, YES, I am reading this out of order thanks to my stupid arsehead library making idiotic choices in what books they ordered first. Second, I think I found another female heroine I can actually grow to enjoy. Kara Gillian is definitely one to watch. She has a funny attitude, while being really good at her job. Unfortunately, however, it appears those around her have some serious secrets they are trying to keep to themselves, and you would think that after 3 books, most of th ...more

Wow. Just wow. Seriously.

The mysteries remain solid - I'm one of those people who can usually see the reveal coming a mile away, but Rowland keeps me guessing - and the characters... love them.

And the overall story... she just kicked it up a notch, and I'm so excited!

My first Diana Rowland book...and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I found it interesting to see how another author handled the "police procedural meets the supernatural" approach. Rowland's own police background definitely shines through, adding a wonderful realism to the world she has created. And that ending!!! I will most definitely be adding more of her books to my TBR list. :)

I loved this book. My only complaint is that it was too short. Happily, there are two more coming out...maybe even this year. The bad guy reveal was unexpected, and I am pleased with how Michael ends up. The Ryan reveal was also unexpected. Overall, nice pacing although the plot was a tad too prosaic.

Kara Gillian was once cop who was a bit of a hermit because she's a demon summoner; over the course of the series she's gained some friends, who know her secret (and she's now bound as a summoner to a particular demon, which causes some friction with a particular friend who she wishes was more than a friend...). In this book, she's learning how to deal with awkwardness of her 'human' relationships (and the demon she invites into her home once a month--which sounds like euphemism for something, b ...more
Paradoxical
I have always been fond of the Kara Gillian series; mainly because I like its take on demon summoning, and how demons are not evil, but are still beings you need to be very, very careful around. They're honorable, in fact honor means just about everything to them, but this doesn't mean that they're good either--they're just different. Plus with supernatural powers.

The writing is--hm. It flows well and it the author paces the book well--it's a comfortable read that balances nicely between action

By far the best in the series yet!

What worked for me:
* Oh Em Gee if I hadn't been Team Rhyzkahl before (which, I mean, of course I was), this book would've solidified it for me. So yeah, we can't forget he's a scary-as-all-getout DEMON LORD for crying out loud, but we get to see so many more sides to him in this one, including one where he's (dare I say it?)... truly affectionate? *swoon!* Gah. And! AND! That bit in Kara's room after Kara had summoned Rhyskahl (not the dream, but the other time)

Re-read 28/11/12 in preparation for #5 being released next month.

This series just keeps on getting better, though I did hear #4 has a serious cliffhanger. Not my fav thing.

So in this episode Kara Gillian, homicide cop, demon summoner, member of the woo-woo FBI taskforce goes to check out a run-of-the-mill missing person and finds a dead body. Anyone else would think suicide but Kara can sense the arcane and knows it's murder. And luckily for her the forensics back that up as well.

So it turns out

Kara Gillian has come a long way from that initial summoning in Mark of the Demon (#1). That one changed her life forever, brought Rhyzkahl, a powerful demonic lord into her life, as well as a whole new set of supernatural dangers… including getting herself dead…transported to a demon plane and summarily resurrected. … It’s all in a day’s work right? Rigggght. But Rowland always hinted at more.

In Blood of the Demon (#2) Rowland basically whetted our appetite for more by placing Kara in an untena

Kara Gillian reminds me so much with Kate Daniels, but after reading three books I've got the impression, well, okay, I like Kate better. While Kate is a mercenary and her fate is clear that she'll be with Curran, but Kara still hanging on a thread. She feels things toward Ryan Kristoff, but she has the hots to the Demonic Lord, Rhyzkahl. And after three books, I couldn't put my finger on who the hell will she choose.

After pledging herself to Rhyzkahl, Kara summons him once a month so Rhyzkahl c

4.5 stars. I'm hovering somewhere between "I really liked it" and "It was amazing".

Why I really liked it:
A. The world Rowland has created is interesting. She reveals just enough to keep me guessing about the motivations (and real identities) of certain characters, the origin of summoners and others who manipulate potency, exactly what happened to Kara and her Aunt when they were gone and how will this continue to affect them in the future. Every hint or answer Rowland gives just opens up anothe

My English review

Pourquoi ? Je n’en ai pas la moindre idée, p
