The title of this book, "Texas Wedding for Their Baby's Sake", really detracts from the involving story line and the interesting characters. Kathryn Albright is a wonderful romantic storyteller, and the setting and era of 1830's Texas and South Carolina add just the right elements for this tale of a wounded hero and his awesome heroine. Brandon Dumont is a successful surgeon and society member of Charleston, SC. He has won the heart of the beautiful Caroline Benet, to whom he becomes secretly en...more

The period of Texas independence is a period I've not often encountered in romance fiction, so reading this book brought me a picture of the history beyond the textbooks. Plus, this book doesn't concentrate on the wars but on those brave enough and strong enough to put down roots in a wild and often uncompromising land while dealing with the aftermath of a bloody war. The hero Brandon is a wounded doctor dealing with PTSD. The society woman from "back East" who loves him, Caroline, must prove to...more

Good read. Great plot.

Brandon takes off to Texas to fight in the war leaving behind his fiance, although an official announcement has not been made. Unknown to him, Caroline is pregnant from their one night of love.

Being a prisoner of war changes him and he no longer feels able to get married. He writes home that he doesn't plan on returning. Caroline travels to Texas to try and change his mind. She needs him and doesn't know how to tell him he will be a father in a few months time.

Kathyrn Albright's first two books, THE ANGEL AND THE OUTLAW, and THE REBEL AND THE LADY, were both outstanding, wonderful stories that were well written. This one, I had a hard time with. I'm not sure what happened but it wasn't her usual work. I felt there was too much telling, and not enough showing, with very little action, though there were a couple of really good scenes. Having loved her first two books, and knowing how well she can write, I'll be picking up her next book.

Caroline had nothing to lose in her journey to Texas to find her fiance Brandon. He'd written to tell her he'd not be coming back, but he didn't know about the coming baby. But Brandon is not the man who had left her, he's now bitter and scarred deeply by war. The love they once shared only deepens his resolve to push her away at all costs. This is my first from Ms. Albright and I found it to be a lovely heartwarming romance. I must see if Brandon's brother Jake has his own story.
Karla (Mossy Love Grotto)
A good romance, not too schmoopy considering it's about pregnancy. If you like damaged heroes (Brandon's got PTSD from the Texas secession), you'll probably like this.
Fun, quick read.
