I will start out by saying, five out of five stars.
I am so glad NetGalley gave me the opportunity to review this book!
What a beautiful story this book tells. It's quiet, peaceful, relaxing and beautiful.
It's a story of love, it's a story about what Christmas should be about: love.
Annie Weaver has just returned home after she hears of her father's terrible accident in which he broke both of his legs. She has been living with the "English" for t More...

It was challenging for me to give this three stars, but based on what the stars represent, it is suiting. I did like it. If I could have given this three and one-half stars, it would be more accurate. It's not as if I "really liked it" but I liked it well-enough.

Annie Weaver was 16 going on 17 when she was sent to live with her aunt during her rumschpringe. While most young teens are rebelling at this time, Annie has used hers to become a certified RN working at Mercy Hospital after living with her aunt for past three years. Three years working among the Englisch and three years away from her family. Now that she is seeing Christmas decorations everywhere she turns, she is missing them more and more. When she receives news that her father, Jacob has b

My Thoughts
Samuel couldn’t accept Annie’s career as a nurse and just didn’t think she could care for her dad the way that was needed, but she was determined to convince Samuel Yoder that he was wrong! And he watched Annie care for her dad, Samuel realized she did have the skills to properly care for him, but would the community and church accept her because of her college degree?

I enjoy stories of the Amish, and their simple lifestyle with their uncomplicated yet strong faith. Annie's accepted youthful period to try out Englisch things was a little more rebellious that most; she pursued a nursing career until she was 20 years old. She returns home when her father has a medical emergency, and decides to stay and embrace the Amish life. She struggles with finding her place in the community, wanting to find a lucrative job to contribute to her household while she finds her

I loved this book. The author writes these characters in a very down to earth real way, they come off as real people with real problems. The protagonist Annie, was a girl that was very easy to relate to. Going to live with her aunt during her rumspringe allowed her to become a part of the English world for a bit, she trained to be an RN, a secret she felt she needed to keep from her family back home. When she got the call that her father was sick she quickly goes home and judged a bit critically

DISCLOSURE: I was provided a copy of A Simple Amish Christmas by the publisher. I was not paid nor required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
I absolutely loved this book. I found the main characters to be believable and likeable. Annie Weaver; although working as a RN among the Englisch, was able to stay true to herself without compromising her Amish values or using her time of rumschpringe as an excuse to go wild and crazy.

An effective story about a young Amish woman who uses her time among "the English" to become a registered nurse, and then is called back to her community when her father is injured in a buggy accident. Right off the bat, Annie has an abrasive encounter with Samuel, the man who serves as the community's medical advisor -- he still recalls the flighty girl who left, and treats her as such. Over time, their relationship changes, but both of them have a lot of self-doubt to overcome...

Annie had left home and became a nurse even though it was against everything her faith believed in. She wasn't happy and wanted to return home but didn't know how she would be received. When the call came that her dad was hurt, she rushed home even though she knew she may never be able to practice again. After meeting Samuel, things became even more confusing because he was nothing like she remember him. Will things turn out so she can have the simple Amish Christmas she had been longing for?

Three years after leaving her family and the Amish community in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, Annie Weaver returns home to care for her father, who’s been injured in a buggy accident.
During her time in the city, she became a licensed nurse. A SIMPLE AMISH CHRISTAS is simply delightful, and my first ever Amish read. I’m not sure why it took me so long to finally read one but I’m certainly glad I did. I grew up watching LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE and have always felt drawn to the “simple life”. So why not the Amish.
It’s hard to believe this is Vannetta’s first book, it’s that well written. As an aspiring writer I found myself rereading several parts in hopes of the words sinking in enough to emulate later in my own writ More...

I admit, I am intrigued my the Amish lifestyle and, like Juju at Tales of Whimsy observed, would love to experience a day in the life of an Amish woman (or at least steal some of their recipes).
Amish fiction is an acquired taste-you either love it or leave it. I initially jumped on the Amish bandwagon when it had novel appeal, but the predictability and cookie-cutter aspect of some of the storylines left me bore More...

This is a wonderful, feel-good Amish story. While the title has the word "Christmas" in it, the story is not as much about Christmas as it is a young woman finding her way in her Amish community.
Annie was spending her rumschpringe with her non-Amish aunt in Philadelphia. During that time, she took some classes and became an RN. While she was at work one day, she got a phone call that her dat had been in an accident and she needed to come home right away. When she came h More...

Annie is called home to nurse her injured father, and leaves her big-city life without a backward glance. When she arrives home she sees a local Amish herb healer--sort of a doctor who hasn't been to medical school--and starts to help him with his work, and while he initially rubs her the wrong way....

I would give A Simple Amish Christmas by Vannetta Chapman 5 stars plus!! It is a wonderful story; I loved it! One of the things that really grabbed my attention was the way in which both Samuel Yoder and Annie Weaver were able to acquire enough knowledge of medicine and medical procedures to fill a serious need in their Amish community. While I can understand the reluctance of many Old Order Amish people to embrace modern medicine, preferring to rely on God's will and intervention, still I think

Let me just get this out of the way. I don’t read a lot of Amish fiction, but I do enjoy it every once in a while. The biggest reason I do not read a lot of Amish fiction is because so many books have words here and there that are Pennsylvania Dutch. I think that slows a story down and I would prefer to not have to stop reading the book and go to the glossary in the back and look up the word. A Simple Amish Christmas had a fair amount of that, which got me off to an unenthusiastic start. Bu

I enjoy reading Amish novels very much and Ms. Chapman was a new author to me. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the light romance, the relaxing atmosphere and the story line.
When Annie Weaver left the Amish community to live with her aunt in the English world for a while, they all thought she was going through her running around years . Little did her family know that she had went back to school, finished with her GED , nursing and now was an R.N. Altho More...

I first heard of the Amish community in an episode of Bones (the one where the boy was a musical prodigy), and it was from there that I learnt that they were a people who lived very simply - no TV, no music, no telephone... So when I saw this book on Amazon listed as free (well, $2 delivery for me, but still...) I decided to get it.
Reading it was quite a pleasant experience. I imagine the Amish way of life would be very fulfilling... though being a grown city person, I will probably ge More...

This book was just what I needed at the start of my break. I honestly expected it to be a cheesy, and although it is a love story, it wasn't cheesy at all. The character's felt genuine as did Chapman's portrayal of the Amish way of living. It didn't just come across as how a non-Amish person thinks it should be.

Sweet but predictable romance set in an Amish community in PA. (Considering I live in/near one I was looking forward to this book.)
Annie Weaver, 16, can't find a job she likes. So she is sent to her aunt who lives among the Englisch. There she remembers watching her community's healer stitch up a young boy several years ago. While living with her aunt Annie gets her GED and studies nursing.
Called home when her father breaks both legs in a buggy accident, Annie is angered that the More...

At the age of 17, Annie Weaver is sent to live with her aunt. While doing so, she continues her education to become an RN. Let me remind you that this is against everything the Amish believe, that is receiving a higher education. One day while at work, she receives some horrible news. There has been an accident and she is asked to return home. Upon her return home, she finds herself butting heads with an Amish farmer who is having some personal issues of his own. What will this Christmas season

I wanted to share with you my review of this book that we featured on Daily Cheap Reads when it was offered free a few weeks ago.
A Simple Amish Christmas by Vannetta Chapman has the romance and delight of a holiday story, with the crisp, fresh feeling of a visit to Amish country.

This book was a first for me in many different levels. It was my first Kindle Freebie that I’ve read that is not a classic. The first book I’ve read that is Christian Lit. Also, the first book I’ve read that focuses on the Amish. Upon finishing the book, I’ve come to the conclusion that this genre might just not be for me.
There wasn’t necessarily anything wrong with the book. I thought it was well written. I just couldn’t get into it. If I describe the book in one word, the wo More...

Annie is such a wonderful Amish woman. She left home at sixteen to pursue her education while living with her Aunt in Philadelphia. She is called home to help her family and she heads back without a second thought. With the holiday season upon her, she is feeling really homesick for her Amish family and their traditions. Once returning back, she quickly gets back into her Amish routine while she cares for her father. In only a month's time, she meets Samuel, who cares for all the sick in th

Such a peaceful story about Christmas and the simplicity that should perhaps be the more common Christmas experience rather than the holiday-shopping-giving-rushing-around-frenzy that can be so common. Reading this while living 6,000 miles away from 'home' gave it a particularly strong appeal as I definitely related to the desire to be home where Christmas has always been celebrated with certain traditions that I desire and miss terribly.
