The Amelia Bedelia easy readers are classics in the "I Can Read" genre. Amelia Bedelia's antics are funny and captivating to young readers as she helps them learn that the same word can have many meanings. In this volume Amelia is helping Mrs. Rogers to trow Miss. Alma a wedding shower. Cousin Alcolu comes over to help prune the hedge while Amelia scales and ices the fresh fish. When Amelia and Alcolu shower Miss. Alma with the garden hose tempers flair until Amelia brings out tea and ...more
This book tells the funny story of the loving, innocent Amelia Bedelia planning a surprise wedding shower. However, things turn bad as usual. This book, as much of Amelia Bedelia, is sure to bring much humor to students. Also, it can be used to discuss the right ways to do things such as showering someone with gifts properly vs. spraying them with a water hose! The only concern I have with Amelia Bedelia is it is somewhat old cnd contains minimum diversity.
If I could give this book five and a half stars I would. This book is about giving somebody gifts for a wedding. Amelia Bedelia puts icing on the fish because she is told to ice them, when really she is supposed to put them in the ice chest. She also weighed the fish, instead of scaling them. You can read this book in one day if you are really fast reader!

I love these books when i was little and still love them now. I cant wait to have them in my classroom so students can love them too. This is another book about Amelia Bedelia and how she confused everything. Such a cute funny book. Children will love laughing about these books and trying to figure out what she has messed up.
Amelia Bedelia is in charge of a surprise wedding shower. She has her crazy cousin helping her. When Amelia Bedelia does everything wrong she hopes that Miss. Alma and Mrs. Roger's will forgive her. This story is very humorous and entertaining. I would use this as a book for students who are capable of reading on their own.
When I was a child this was one of those stories that I wanted to hear over and over. Not only is it a halarious book with great characters; it also provides children with examples of figures of speech and actual word meaning. Amelia Bedelia is still today one of the favorite chaacters of all time. I highly recomend this book.
Very funny for both kids and adults. Amelia's literal interpretation of everything has humorous results. My 2 year old already loves this book although I'm sure it's even more appropriate for older kids learning to read on their own. Fun!
That poor woman - hit with a garden hose spray of water at her shower. And someone else ate a chocolate icing covered raw fish. Yuck! Good thing Amelia Bedelia is so fun and made yummy cupcakes, so everyone forgave her.
This just might be the very Amelia Bedelia book that I had signed by Peggy Parish when I was lucky enough to meet her at a young authors conference in elementary school. In any case, they were all delightful to me.
These books are good for adults to use with kids because they can have great conversations about words and meanings but because of the word play it is harder for kids to read by themselves. AR 2.3

This book is okay. The plot about a "shower" maybe more appropriate for older students. Younger student would probably more enjoy the pictures in this book.
I love Amelia Bedelia books because she always thinks wrong and when she does that everything goes wrong! My favorite Amelia Bedelia book is the Surprise Shower
Amelia Bedelia is great, but I didn't realize until today that most of the humor is lost upon young readers. My kids just didn't get it, lol.
Okay this isn't genius but since it is a jump into reading book it can't really be. It is cute and enjoyable.
I didn't like the way everyone got wet but i liked the way she saved miss almas headache.
not the best of fiction but great for the new to reading set
I knew I could make it to 70 books this year.

Best Amelia Bedelia so far....

I liked it
This is the sense of humor my 8 year old has. She just about passes out with laughter everytime she reads these. I like Amelia Bedelia books. She is so innocent and kind, but has a uncanny knack for the literal. I have to be careful, however, at what age I read these to my kiddos. My oldest, when very young, used to watch "Big Comfy Couch." For weeks she would stuff our couch with her belongings, like Lunette. And who says our youngins aren't affected by media (in any form)?!? ...more

Ms. Alma said that that was the most supriseing party should had ever had so every time Amelia messes up something it ends up to be a good thing so no it wasn't effective to me because the ending turned out to be a good thing.
So basically it i enjoyed the book but it's not effective.Book#5

Amelia and her cousin make mistakes while helping Mrs. Rogers give a wedding shower (which of course results in the future bride being sprayed with water.) Lots of puns for building new vocabulary. For example, I don't think most little kids would understand "prune" the bush, nor would they understand what a "prune" that you eat is.
Typical Amelia Bedelia book where she (this time with her Cousin Alcolu) takes everything that Mr. and Mrs. Rogers say literally and turns a wedding shower into a fiasco. I remember liking these books when I was a child, but now they just irritate me. Our girls like them, though.
It's been 30 years and I still have memories of this book. I liked this book because it showed how words can be confusing if you didn't understand the culture. Growing up in a different culture, I could relate to Amelia quite a bit.
I read these books when I was a child, and still have memories of the stupid tales that make me smile. These books are great if you have a child in the family--even more so if you are a child at heart.
Yup, the title gives it away. You automatically know the play on words that will ensue. I could identify with Amelia Bedilia, I always found the term "shower" odd and confusing.
This was a favorite of mine when I was a kid. My daughter doesn't know what to make of this series...sometimes she thinks it's funny, other times she thinks Amelia is just plain dumb.
It's been a while since I've read this book. Seems like I didnt like it when I read it. Can't remember what the book was about though. Guess it didn't make an impression on me.
