I recently won this book, on a goodreads giveaway and really liked reading it.
The wings of leo spencer by Jerome Parisse, is basically about a 14-year old boy who abruptly and unexpectedly dies. The story follows him as he is reluctant to accept his death and watches over and protect his family from an evil force (not without difficulty)

This was my first win on goodreads. I did enjoy the book and Parisse style of writing is simple and to the point. I must admit, when I read the book it was totally different to what I was expecting, I didn't know it was set mainly in heaven and from what I already knew about the book I was expecting something along the lines of 'If I Stay' or 'Lovely Bones'. The fact that the book was set in heaven didn't bother me at all, I believe in God and heaven myself, but I'm not sure Parisse version of h...more
The Wings of Leo Spencer is about a 14 year old boy who dies on his mother’s birthday. He leaves behind his parents, sister and baby brother, as well as his best friend Peter. Only he doesn’t want to leave them.
Leo has to make a choice and it’s one that will affect his life... or death...forever.
As a typical teen, Leo wants answers. His search for the truth gives him a huge challenge... Can he protect and save his family and Peter?

A great story that one could say gives the kind of hope that faith brings to believers of an afterlife. White western society does not prepare us well for the loss of a loved one - shielding children from funerals and death until the loss of a grandparent or worse yet, parent. For a parent to lose a child however is the worst punishment. Jerome Parisse takes an intriguing look at the afterlife from the experiences of a young boy, melding religious and supernatural myths and folklore. He has ...more
I won this book on a Goodreads giveaway. I haven’t read many books concerning the afterlife, but I enjoyed this one. It was a light and easy read and the plot was very interesting. The book wasn’t really what I expected; I didn’t think it would revolve so much around heaven and angels as I’m not a religious person and I don’t believe in heaven or hell but it was fascinating to see how others view the afterlife. What I liked the most about this book is the strong relationship Leo has with his fr...more
The Wings of Leo Spencer is a touching and warm-hearted tale of love, family and friendship.
Jerome Parisse presents the afterlife in a way that I haven’t come across in YA before. It’s a fully fledged Heaven with a tunnel of white light, a test and a judgement. And there are angels. Five hierarchies of angels, in fact, each with a different job, standing and level of Heaven, marked by the colour of their wing tips. I really would have loved to learn more about them, actually. Especia...more

I won this on first reads.
Sorry, I have been ill and unable to give the book it's proper respect. I was away from my computer too. I will be reading and updating my review very soon.

I thought that the premise had a lot of promise, but the book was lacking something. It seemed like the author wasn't giving us everything. It was like we were supposed to draw a lot of conclusions ourselves or he had pictures and ideas in his head, that didn't translate down into the paper.
One example, one of the supporting characters said something to Leo about it being "another one of your jokes"...well, as far as I, the reader, know, this is the first time they've met...more

Really loved this book the second time that I read it. I think the first time I was just trying to rush through the story too fast.
Well, the book grabbed me pretty darn quick, but as the story progressed I got kind of lost in what exactly was supposed to happen. Then I got over about 120 pages and it really grabbed me again.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. It started out very promising and gripping. As the book went on, though, I started to lose respect for the main character, as he became more childish, rather than growing into the character. The ending of the book was disappointing and left a number of issues unresolved, unless of course, this was to be the beginning of a series.
I received this book through First Reads.
I liked a lot of the ideas in this book - like the original view of heaven and the angels - but in some parts it fell flat. I felt some of the ideas introduced weren't fully developed and at times it skipped over information that would have been relevant to better understanding the plot.
I also couldn't really figure out what age group this book is intended for.

I seriously loved this book! LOVED IT! I could not put it down! Its very imaginative, and it has a fun way to think about what heaven would be like! In the book, you would think of something like a milkshake, or a beautiful beach and it would appear! If thats heaven then count me in! I definately recommend this book, I already want to read it again! I know this will be one I will enjoy for the rest of my life!
This book was a real surprise. It is well written, fast-paced and witty at times. I really liked the author's challenging views on what makes a soul and a possible afterlife.
This a great young adult book. It was funny and sad without being silly or maudlin. I can't say much without spoilers so I'll leave it at that. Definitely a Good Read.
I won a copy of this book on Goodreads.
The style of writing was very light and easy. But I must admit the story fell a little bit flat for me. I did like the author's concept of heaven, it was very imaginative. The ending I feel was a bit insipid, seemed too rushed and simple. I would have liked the story to have been developed a bit more, there could have been more avenues to explore.

I won this book on good reads. I think this book had a good story line. I feel that the dialog between the characters at times was a little young for me but I don't think that the book is just for young adults though it would be better suited for a younger reader i think. The book was very easy to read and the story went fast.
Only a few chapters in so far but am loving it. I am very interested in pastlives, angels etc so this book is right up my street.
Well, what can i say, was a very good read and have already recommended it to several friends. it really explores many avenues of 'life after death' and what happens, to me has brought some comfort

If Goodreads would allow books to be sent to APO and stop givng errors on zipcodes that are APO's I could actually read this book myself. I am waiting STILL for my mother to send. But she did read and loved it. She said she could not put the book down. And my mom doesn't read books. That was the first time I heard her say she actually read anything.
The Wings of Leo Spencer is now available for only $10 - Worldwide orders.
