This is such a unique premise, a med school drop out and a rapper. They come from such divergent back grounds but the same community. They are both struggling with who they are expected to be while trying to satisfy who they really are. I love the realism in that all their problems weren't magically solved by the end of this short novella. There is no HEA but the beginnings of trying to have a little happiness squeezed between the reality of their lives. This could be such a moving and rive More...

Wonderful language and world building.

Ethan's dreamed about Jell since they were adolescents, and now he might have a chance to live a few of those fantasies, but he's got a lot of other troubles at the moment.

A derailed career, his disappointed parents, who expected a heterosexual doctor for a son, not a gay man who has flunked out of med school. An enigmatic FBI agent Uncle who wants to use Ethan's friendship with Jell for his own purposes, to name a few.

Enjoyed this read very much -- the contrast of the two golden boys, one who's made it as a rapper, one who's gone the academic route, who have a long path to go to find each other again, and there's no guarantee. Just hope, nearly extinguished in a hail of gunfire.

Amber Green has made a new fan -- I'll be looking for more of her stories.

Lovely story. Two great protagonists, although, I admit it, Ethan was my favorite. Fabulous secondary characters, especially Uncle Ron and drunken cousin Gator. The sex scenes were both hot and sweet. There was humor in it too and HFN that just begs for a sequel. I loved it and I can't recommend it highly enough.

This wasn't so much slashy as, you know, slash. Readable and the setting was interesting, but while I liked the viewpoint character, his romantic interest (Jell) didn't feel that fleshed out to me.

This short novella was okay but nothing special. The attraction between both main characters felt real, but somehow their feelings didn't reach me. I couldn't really enjoy this plot, something was missing.
