I despise reading about bullies. And if I do have to read about them, there better be a good payoff in the end. This book starts with several chapters of bullying, by peers and ugly adults alike, and on top of that the girl being bullied just isn't very likable. So, after enduring so many chapters, I put the book down. Then, after seeing all the positive reviews here on goodreads, I went back to try again. This time, I made it almost to the end before putting it down in disgust. Quite simply, th...more

I quite enjoyed the first Molly Moon book. I found it funny, sort of reminiscent of Roald Dahl, and I loved the premise: a girl with no particular talents except a very big set of eyes finds those eyes make her an especially good hypnotist, and she begins using her powers to make her life better at a miserable orphanage where she lives.
Unfortunately, the quality of the books take a serious drop about midway in book two. Book three is horrible. I seriously doubt I'll bother with the fourth b...more

Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism is about an orphan (she lives in an orphanage) called Molly Moon who found a book in the library one day under Y for title as it read Ypnotism. It was meant to be Hypnotism, and finding it was the start of Molly's adventures. She learns how to hypnotise, and eventually finds herself in New York, thanks to her best friend Rocky Scarlet (I won't tell you how or why Rocky was involved). This was a very interesting book, however I wouldn't recommend it to pe...more

Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism is about a girl who stumbles upon a hypnotism book. Molly practices and practices but she just has a natural talent so she doesn't have to practice very hard. She has a best friend, Rockey, who gets adopted without telling her! Molly winds up in New York City trying to find him. if you like page-turning mysteries, this is an amazing book and you will find yourself up for hours reading, I know I was. 5 stars -RGM

This is the first book in a series that starts good, gets great, then crashes into a cliff on the way down. Molly Moon, an orphan at the hands of the terrible ___. Molly is about to have a change in her bad fortune, though, and finds a book of hypnotism. It leads her on a whirlwind advanture to NYC and back, and makes her truly realize that her friends are really important to her, and that the easy way out may not be the best way.

Feisty orphan Molly Moon discovers she is a natural hypnotist. Will she use her powers for fortune and fame and forget her friends? Cute and exciting adventure, with a nice message. Has exaggerated, cartoonish characters like Mysterious Benedict Society but I thought the pacing was better and characters more appealing.
Recommend to kids 9 and up, looking for a little adventure or magic.

If you love orphans who are great at hypnotism, you'll love Molly Moon. Even if you don't love orphans or hypnotism you'll love Molly Moon. She's sweet, and caring and makes mistakes that she tries to make up for, not always with great results but she does try and with her best friend Rocky and dog Petula she takes on Manhattan and some other nasty characters.

An orphaned child, Molly Moon, becomes a child idol as she hypnotizes the audience into thinking that her dancing, singing and acting are the best anyone can offer. All goes wrong when it turns out that the book (which she learnt hypnotism from) is greatly wanted by a notorious professor. This first Molly Moon book has lots of humor and quirky characters in it.

This was my first "favorite book". When I first read it around 4th grade I was so amazed! I let my aunt read it and got her started in the series. I didn't know i was a series until the second book came out. Each book in the series is as good as the first, and I would read them all again and again and again.

The whole Molly Moon series is fun and has a deeper layer of becoming a better person as part of it. The first book shows a selfish Molly becoming more unselfish and finding the bigger joy that comes from thinking of others first. I've enjoyed the whole series, as has my 11 year old daughter.

This book is one of the most creative and well thought out books I have ever read. I thought the story was creative and entertaining, and the author, Georgia Byng, brought to life the characters in her novel.
I loved this book, and I would recommend it for all ages.

This was a cute story. It reminded me of Harry Potter, but not so dark and involved. I think girls would like to read about a female character who has the ability to do so many things. Of course, it's fabulous that a librarian was responsible for all the great things that happened!

I read this book forever ago, but I LOVE it.
This book was on our reading list for Battle of the Books 3 years ago.
It's such a great read.
I seriously didn't want to put this book down the first time I read it, or when I re-read it, or when I re-read it again.

tweens and teens
This is a fun light read if you want a juvenile/YA type book- I enjoyed it a lot, but I don't feel like I have to rush out and by it...but I'd def recommend it to teen/preteens. This said, I do plan on reading the rest of the series.

10 and under
Not good for my age for sure, 10 and under might like it though.
I find Molly Moon annoying and selfish and just as bad as the bad guy, whatever his name was himself.
A very boring book, I don't plan on reading the second book.
