My books are tattered and dog eared... I couldn't put these books down when I was in high school. Read the whole series twice. Which says alot at a time in most teenagers lives when they are repulsed by reading anything that isn't required by school.
So, just when you think the kids are going to be all right - after escaping Grandmama's evil clutches - they go and find bigger and better ways to mess up their lives... and I root for the remaining Dollangagner kids all the way.

Hey, guess what? Flowers in the Attic was only the beginning of this sordid tale! We now follow Cathy to South Carolina with her gross brother and little sister who didn't die of arsenic poisoning (almost did though). They get taken in by a doctor and his sassy housekeeper. Seems harmless enough, right? Oh, how quickly we forget. Cathy ends up sleeping with the doctor who's like 40 years older than her and then running away to become a ballerina. She marries the MOST FAMOUS ballet dancer, and ha...more

I wanted to claw my eyes out while reading this book. It was so horrible, and yet I had to finish it because I can never leave a book unfinished. It was difficult and painful. Every chapter was redundant. Cathy and the men that LOVE her, Cathy and her long golden hair, Cathy and her plies and "supple" leg muscles. Cathy talks for 400-something pages about the revenge she is going to get on her mother...and she has all of these random run-ins with her and doesn't do anything. The reveng...more

Here's a disclaimer about my additions of V.C. Andrews books -- I normally don't like the idea of "guilty pleasures". You like what you like, right? Who cares? Why the guilt?
Well, there is definite guilt where V.C. Andrews is concerned. These books were a huge guilty pleasure when I was a teenager, but they left such strong impressions on me -- i.e. I can't hear the word "doppelganger" without thinking of this book, and when I see old fashioned sugared donuts I wonder if...more

I'm going to copy and paste this to all of them!!!! I feel like I have to justify this and all of the other V. C. Andrews books on my list!! I read these when I was young and loved them! My sister and I poured through them- they were obviously trashy for our age (probably the appeal) but mom let us read ANYTHING- as long as we were readung she was ok with it! And that paied off- because both my sister and I still read for pleasure daily. You can't beat it! Hey- and why be a book snob???

This is my very favorite VC Andrews book. It's probably because they finally get to make something of their shattered childhood. It's such a bittersweet story after the Dollanganger children finally escape. There are very happy parts but reality is never far awy.
I was definitely in Cathy's corner during this book. I was right with her plotting revenge on her mother. My very favorite part was at the Christmas party where Cathy wore the replica of the green dress and emerald jewelry...

The sordid story that started with Flowers in the Attic continues with Cathy, Chris, and Carrie in Petals on the Wind when the children use their stolen funds to escape by bus from their prison at the Foxworth Mansion. Once out of the mansion, the children begin their lives anew as they continue to struggle with their past demons as well as new ones. Throughout relationships, Chris continues to carry a torch for his sister Cathy. Their saga continues in If There Be Thorns.

So, here's the second book of this series. The children (that are left) escaped from the attic and their mother and grandmother who tortured them for the past three years. They find a home with a kind doctor and his maid. Then Chris goes to college and Cathy gets married to her ballet partner, and Carrie is sent to private school and they live their own lives, but that turns into conflicts between Cathy and Chris's relationship.

this book reads exactly like a soap opera. it is kind of bad, but i can't look away ... it's just event after event after event, with not a lot of substance, and a lot of repeating of motives and such. but ... again ... i can't ... look away ...
the end had a nice twist, i have to say. i would have loved these books in high school. even still, i AM planning on reading the next one.

I don't care what you say about it. V.C. Andrews changed my life when I started reading her books at age 10. This is by far my favorite--Book 2 in the Dollanganger series; this one is the continuation of Flowers in the Attic. My sister and I still talk about this book, fifteen years later . . .

When I read Flowers in the Attic, I wasn't too impressed. Reluctant to read the sequel, I had nothing better to do in the summer of 1987, so I took my chances and I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed this. It's so cheesy that I had to read it with some crackers.

If I have to have a favorite in this series, it would have to be this book. It's weird, creepy and definitely the one that most sticks out in my head. I always wanted to see a movie made of this, no idea why.
Consider this one of my favorite guilty pleasure novels!

This rating is based on the timing of when I read them as a teenager. I remember reading through them quickly - they were intriging reads tha tI couldn't put down. I am not sure however, how I would rate the series now as an adult.

Granted, this is a horrible series romance book. I loved this book. I loved how Cathy was so passionate and aggressive and bold. I loved the garden scene with Cathy and Dr. Paul. This series is completely outrageous.

This was my first favorite book. Yeah, the incest thing grossed me out, but something about the language-- and the characters-- really drew me in. This book will always have a special place in my heart!!

Sick, sick, sick. My mother was so strict, she wouldn't even let me watch "All My Children" because it was too racy. But she allowed, nay, ENCOURAGED me to read V.C. Andrews. What was up with that?

The 2nd book in the series, a bittersweet tale of the childrens' escape from the attic. An addictive read of love heartache and plotting revenge on the mother who refused to love them anymore.

This cover is totally tripping me out right now and I feel so old! I LOVED V.C. Andrews when I was in 7th and 8th grade. Her covers rocked and I couldn't wait until her new ones came out.
