My initial review was succinct, and to the untrained ear, somewhat obscene. This book impressed me greatly, and I'd love to hear the lectures from which it was transcribed someday.

It's no secret that Derrida indulges a tendency to ramble. Specters of Marx is full of really interesting ideas about the evolution of Marxist theory from it's conception to the print date of this book. One of, in my judgment, Derrida's best works and one that I can't read without crying. Derrida turns a seemingly marginal reading of Marx into a mediation on Heidegger, memories, forgetting and haunting. Painfully difficult in every sense and some of the most rewarding reading I have ever done.

Best Derrida volume I've read so far. It made me go back and read Hamlet (for possibly the 10th time) and not a small bit of Marx as well, before I felt ready to really sink my teeth into it.

This is basically the pinnacle of human cultural achievement. Sometimes I cry when I read it, not just from the beauty of the writing, but from the beauty of the invective.

I like reading people's reviews about this book. Especially the people who think it's about Marx and don't get that it's about methodology.

I love you, Derrida.
