This is for Leanna Renee Hieber's, A Christmas Carroll:
Leanna Renee Hieber’s, A Christmas Carroll from A Midwinter Fantasy anthology is chock full of holiday cheer about the power of love and friendship. If you’re a fan of Leanna’s Percy Parker series, you will not want to pass this one up. Whereas Leanna’s first two books in her series are darker in tone, this holiday short is very sweet about not letting life pass you by, and not missing out on those important things, or those people More...

A Midwinter Fantasy is a collection of three novellas that take place at, of course, Midwinter. In all three of the stories, it is the festival of giving, but because all of the stories are fantasy romances, the holiday celebrated is not always or not exactly Christmas.
The first story in the collection is A Christmas Carroll by Leanna Renee Hieber, and the story is set in the same storyline as her Strangely Beautiful series. In fact, the action of this Christmas tale takes place direct More...

Just to warn you, I'm coming at this from the perspective of someone who liked Hieber's first book and was anticipating some fantasy romance or romantic urban fantasy stories. As a whole, this anthology was a lot more in the nature of genre romance than I was expecting.

Keep the warmth of Christmas with you well into the new year with this anthology. So far I've only read Leanna Renee Hieber's A CHRISTMAS CAROLL. But this novella alone makes the anthology worth buying.
My favorite characters in Hieber's Strangely Beautiful series, Vicar Michael Caroll and Headmistress Rebecca Thompson finally get their chance for love thanks to a Charles Dicken's inspired scheme. My main man, Vicar Carroll has long been pining for Rebecca, but she's been too infatuate More...

This book is an anthology with three different novellas all set around the time of Christmas or a mid-winter festival. As the stories are so different I’m going to review each one separately.
Visit Leanna Renee Hieber's Strangely Beautiful Victorian London...haunted though these soot-stained urban alleys may be, a lonely headmistress and a gallant vicar shall here reap the season's blessings.
This was my favourite story of the collection. It felt like reading a beautiful epilogue More...

A Midwinter Fantasy is a mixed bag of short stories from the fantasy romance genre with a Christmas theme. Here's a look at the novellas included:
"A Christmas Carroll" - This story serves as wrap-up for the Percy Parker series by Leanna Renee Hieber. And I understand fans of the series loved it. Speaking as someone who has never read these books, the story wasn't so great. Obviously the world-building in this series is pretty complicated and while the bare bones are laid More...

You’d definitely enjoy this book if you’re into fantasy and gothic-like setting. One book you would not want to miss if you enjoy falling down the rabbit hole and go to Wonderland like Alice or walk through the wardrobe into another world like the Pevensies siblings in the Chronicles of Narnia.
In Midwinter Fantasy, wonderful couples and heroes emerge to tell tales that More...

Review of Leanna Renee Hieber's Short Story!
{Previously Published on my blog: Welcome to Larissa's Bookish Life"

I absolutely love the world that Leanna has created and ever since I read the first book in the Strangely Beautiful series I have been hoping that we would get to read about Michael and Rebecca, and have their much deserved Happily Ever After come to life.

Of the three stories in this anthology, "A Christmas Carroll" by Leanna Renee Hieber is the only one I have read and can review.
"A Christmas Carroll" is the latest installment in Miss Hieber's Strangely Beautiful series which began with The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker and was continued in The Darkly Luminous Fight For Persephone Parker. If you haven't read those two books, I suspect that "A Christmas Carroll" would not be your best int More...

I purchassed this book to continue reading the the Strangely Beautiful series. A Christmas Carroll is the only one I've read out of the book, but that story alone is worth getting this book. Even though this story is set inbetween the last chapter and the epilogue of the 2nd book of the Strangely Beautiful series it is an entertaining story alone, and explains where it needs to what has happened in the previous books. For those who are wondering if they should read this story to go along with th

Review for L.J. McDonald's story only-
I am in love with the Sylph series. It is one of my favorites. If you haven't read The Battle Sylph
and The Shattered Sylph
, you should. I think to really understand and appreciate the Sylph story in this book, the reader should at least be familiar with the strange and wonderful world L.J. McDonald created with her Sylph series.

“A Christmas Carroll” by Leanna Renee Hieber
Just days after the ending of Darkly Luminous Fight for Persephone Parker, Headmistress Rebecca is lonely and sad. The death of her friend and fellow guard member Jane lays heavy on her soul. She feels guilty for her death, and just all around miserable. For twenty years she served in the guard, and for twenty years she has pined after their leader, Alexi Rychman, who has recently been married to the newest guard member, Percy Parker. There More...

If you enjoyed the first two books in Hieber's Strangely Beautiful series, you simply must read this. It's worth the $5.00 to get the ebook version. This basically fills the gap between the climax and the epilogue of book 2. Percy makes a lovely reappearance, as does Jane, but Michael steals the show. I adored him in the books, and this story just solidified my love for him. A must read for series fans!

This is a collection of Christmas/wintry tales for the romance enthusiast. I have to admit I am not a romance reader really but there was something about this that appealed to me. Perhaps the change in weather or the dark of winter but I did find myself enjoying these tales. Having never read any of the authors in this collection before I can’t compare it to their other works but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of writing. The ambience of each was well drawn, the characters while no

There were three stories in this book, by three authors and they were all very enjoyable. If you've read the Percy Parker books by Leanna Heiber then you will love her Cristmas Carol, the story of how the spirits help Rebecca and Micheal ( the parson) to find happiness. I found it a very heartwarming tale.

I got this for the first story which is a short story of a series I love. I ended up really enjoying all 3 stories

LJ McDonald - LOVED this story! Mace was a favorite of mine and I was happy that she did his own story! Anyone reading the series (or would like to start) will enjoy this...
Helen S. Taylor - I adore this series, this particular story was OK for me, I liked that she had Troy in the story. It's a decent read, but I'm more waiting for the 3rd book in the series to be released.
Leanna R. Hieber - I didn't read this one only because I haven't finished her first book (or second) and More...

Anthologies are often hit-or-miss, but I actually loved every story in this book! I was already familiar with the Sylph series by L.J. McDonald, but I will definitely check out more by Leanna Renee Hieber and Helen Scott Taylor.

I only read the Sylph story by L.J.McDonald. The prose seemed stilted...not as good as the first two books. The story takes place 20 years after "The Shattered Sylph" and features an adventure by Mace. The widow is very old and gives him permission to find himself a new master. He has this in mind when he goes off to retrieve one of the widow's orphans, who has run away. Bandits, heroics, an old flame, etc.

To be clear I only read the Leanna Renee Hieber story since that was an epilogue (of sorts) to Percy Parker's books.
Prelim review: This was a riff on Dickens' classic story "A Christmas Carol", with Jane (and a couple other familiar spirits) helping to make Rebecca and Michael see their worth and future happiness.

Rating for LJ McDonalds's sylph story only. The story is about Mace and finding a new master. I enjoyed it. *short story*
