I read several of the books in this series. When will I ever learn?
These books were a complete waste of time. Karen drew the series out way too long, and as a result bored me to death. We don’t need to know every little detail of the characters lives. This was one of her classic Mr. Imperfect and Miss. Perfect books.
Some of the characters were so perfect it scared me. And the others were so imperfect (affairs, illegitimate children, shacking up, abortion… you name it) that it truly was scary. S

FAME is the first book in the Firstborn series, which follows the Redemption series by Karen Kingsbury.

Dayne Matthews, Hollywood heartthrob, whom we briefly met in REUNION, is captivated by Katy Hart. Katy is a director of children’s theater that Dayne stumbled across while he was in Bloomington, Indiana. Though their meeting was brief and one-sided, for whatever reason he can’t seem to get her out of his mind. When he returns to Hollywood and is cast in a new romantic comedy, the only woman he

Okay, this book is really good. I really LOVE the writing style. Other than the falling in love part, I never once went, "This is going too fast." unlike other books that I've read. Plus, the author's writing styles really...Ah, I can't even explain it, but it brings life, and a bit of peppyness that really attracted me.
The whole storyline of a nobody with a celebirty falling for her is cliche, but the author really did her job in making it interesting. Even though the author didn't want Katy t

My mom talked me into reading these books (yes, all of them) because they take place in Bloomington, Indiana. I, however, didn't realize that Bloomington, Indiana was Christian paradise, or at least it was depicted so in these books which more closely resemble an evangelical soap opera. Karen Kingsbury seems to subscribe to rather bipolar theology where terrible things happen to every single character in the books (murder, suicide, terminal illness, abortion, etc.), but luckily they pray about i ...more

I would actually give about 3 1/2 stars. Karen Kingsbury is really good at what she does, which is cheesy Christian fiction with a little bit of romance thrown in. It's very "sweet", and at times a little too much. I'm sure there are people out there like these characters, but I don't know any.

But the writing flows smoothly, and is a style that is easy to read. I liked the book, and was left wanting to read the next in the series at the end. I would definitely read the Redemption series before t

I have a little something against Karen Kingsbury. Thats my disclaimer! All her book synopsis's just sound like scripts from a bad tv drama. With that said, this series was the first series of hers that I felt interested in reading. The synopsis is great, it's just the execution. It's that way with all her books, for me. They are like soap opera reading. The fame series is not a believable portrayal of a celebrity. Its way to cookie cutter. I almost feel horrible saying this too, because I know ...more

Four stars, only because... Karen, why'd you leave your readers hanging??! Of course, I'm thankful that I'm reading book 6, and the series is already finished. But I could just imagined how the readers were back then. After five awesome books, and with decent "The End... for now." epilogues, this is not what I was expecting of book 6.

I really loved this book. I loved how Karen Kingsbury added in the Baxter family in this book, but mainly focused on Dayne and Katy.

Katy Hart is the young director of CKT (Christian Kid's Theater) and loves what she does. But for as long as she could remember, her dream was to be an actress and when an unexpected offer comes up from a Hollywood casting director, she makes the decision to head up to CA for an audition. But above all, she wants what God wants for her. Is it in His plan for her li

I loved this book and couldn't put it down! Karen Kingsbury continues her series on the beloved Baxter family by delving into the more secret side of the family. Fame is an appropriate name for the book as it deals with both the expectations placed on someone famous, the price of that fame and the toll that newfound fame can take on someone used to being ordinary.

Love Karen Kingsbury! Everything she writes touches my heart. There's always love and family issues that need resolution. God is always the center of that resolution. She has a way of sharing scripture that brings it to a new light for me. I just plain feel good when I read her books. They are an easy read...a curl up in your favorite chair and just enjoy!

I am hooked on Karen Kingsbury books! This is book #1 of the second series of "The Baxters." I have gotten so into these books that I have literally caught myself beginning to pray for one of the characters (no joke). These stories show how faith and family bring you through trials, struggles and just life in general.

At first I wasn't sure how I felt about this new twist thrown into the series of touching stories from the Baxter family, but I loved it more and more as I continued reading it. It is different, but in a good way. Famous how their famous son figures out his life and returns to his family, as well as to his faith.

I really love Karen Kingsbury and thoroughly enjoyed the redemption series. Overall I thought this was a good book, but I had a couple of issues with this particular book. Firstly I feel that the idea of there being 'the one' was over-emphasised, I feel that this perception of God having picked one perfect individual for you to marry is damaging within the church, especially for women. The other concern I had was with the perception that 'God isn't in hollywood'. Although there are many question ...more

As Dayne contemplates how much he wants that family he saw, he also cares too much for their privacy to ever open his world to them. As he struggles along in his Hollywood life, he asks for Katy to be given an opportunity to read for a part opposite him. As Katy tentatively steps back into the life of an actress, she worries for the future of CKT and is haunted by her past where her love was killed by the celebrity life style. Will Katy accept a part opposite heartthrob Dayne and see where their ...more

I absolutly love this book. It is my favorite book in the whole world. I read it twice and couldn't put it down! I think that this book has elements for everyone to read about. Its got love, some mystery, and of course action. Fame, by Karen Kingsbury is a story based on two people from opposite worlds, meet, then fall in love. At first it isn't love though. Actor Dayne Matthews might be coming on a little strong for small town girl Katy Hart. Dayne is used to all the ladies wanting to be with h ...more

The main character Dayne was in Hollywood living the wild life as an actor. He was a play boy with the ladies and having a good time. He was the lead in a up and coming moving and they were looking for the female lead. They tried six current leading ladies but still could not find the one they wanted. Dayne remembered a woman he had never met in Indiana, a woman he never spoke with but one he could not get out of his mind. He had seen the woman for about ten minutes at a community theater. He co ...more

I understand that when reading, you are supposed to suspend your disbelief, your grasp on reality, and allow yourself into the world of the book. But this book was so blatantly unrealistic that I couldn't just let go and allow the plot to take over. There is so little character development in this book. The author just keeps repeating the same things over and over. Dayne is famous and has angst about God because his missionary family died. He's a playboy. Blah blah blah. Small town girl miraculo ...more

I LOVED this book (as I loved the 1st Baxter series). I was glad that nothing in this book really made me cry...I did get teary eyed a little whenever someone would remember Elizabeth (the mother). I did not understand why the author changed the CKT directors name to Katy. In the last book of the 1st series it was Jessie or Jenny (something with a J). So it was hard for me to see her as a Katy for the first half of the book. But I loved how this book gave us basically more back story on Katy and ...more

This is the first novel in a series called FIRSTBORN. Fame is where it all starts. I actually read "Forgiven" first and had to go back to read the first one! Kingsbury is a spectacular Christian romance novelist.

The most refreshing thing I can say about this engaging story is that it is clean! It's about time I pick up a good romance that doesn't have illicit sexual affairs in it. The lead male acts with honor, and the lead female is respectful. What a refreshing change!

I highly recommend this

I have read all of Karen Kingsbury's novels, and am very hard-pressed to find a favorite. Each one of them is so good! This book is the sixth book in The Baxter series, of which there are ten altogether. The first five tell about the Baxter family and what each of their college-aged children go through in growing up. It is by no means a tender Grace Livingston Hill type of novel. The problems the family has to deal with are very modern and very hurtful. Karen manages to endear us to her characte ...more

kingsbury once again tackles some of life's issues within the lives of her popular baxter family characters. the unknown member of the family, actor dayne matthews, continues his quest for meaning. he is also excited by the prospect of bringing katy hart to hollywood for a chance to star in his new movie. katy, busy with her life as the director of a christian children's theater group, is puzzled by the invite but accepts and is soon blown away by the glitz and romance of hollywood. but does god ...more

Another great book by Karen Kingsbury! I don't think I've read any book by her yet that i haven't liked, However, if you are looking for a huge life changing perspective on religion this particular book isn't the book of hers i would choose for that. She has many others that would be better for that! Fame is a great read and i cant wait to read "Forgiven" and see how the story continues with the same characters.

Karen Kingsbury has a gift for writing stories that make you fall in love with the characters. The Baxter family is real, they have struggles and faith to get them through it, and they are lovable. This particular story focuses on Dayne Matthews, the unknown firstborn of the Baxter family. I enjoyed this book greatly and think it is the start to yet another epic tale.

I wanted to give it five stars, but to be honest, it dragged in places. This isn't really a fault because of the type of story. Bu

While I own quite a few of Karen Kingsbury's novels, this is the first I've read because the storyline drew me in. It was exciting from the first page. While getting to know the characters I discovered that some had their own stories, which resolved in earlier books, and that intrigued me. Now I feel like I need to backtrack and read the others as well. I really enjoyed getting to know Dayne and Katy. Even though Dayne is lost, he longs for real love. He just doesn't know what it is or where to ...more

I liked the book because it is a book that is really based on the real life about the famous people. I also liked that it had a really interesting story (the climax). At first I was wondering if the book had finished without an actual offcial ending, but then I saw that it had other books that continued after. I thought that was very neat :).

I got so involved in this series, and the story of the main characters that I forgot about reality. These books became a sort of reality to me-so much that I expected to see Dayne Matthews on the cover of People magazine one morning when I went in to work!

Like all Karen Kingsbury books, this story was very predictable, with everything falling neatly into place, if not by the end of the book, by the end of the series. However, her books are usually fun to read and always carry a great Christian message.
