Boring. That is one word to describe this book. It had some good parts but for the most part, I was bored with the book. There really seemed to be hardly any interaction between the H/h in the beginning part of the book. Plus, some of the scenes were just way too long.

The heroine was a "shameless" (pun intended) flirt even after her marriage to the hero. Even if she was doing it to make him jealous it just made me dislike her. Nor did I really care for the hero either. He did get a bit better th

If a Regency could read like an Indiana Jones adventure, this is it. It's definitely different and in a good way.

This is the first of her novels for me. Apparently it's the last installment of a series but it holds up as a stand alone novel. First 100 pp. were terrific: gripping opening, engaging H/h, though hero is darker in tone danger-wise than most of what I read. The story was suspenseful with unexpected things happening one after another. This review will lack clarity bec. I am not going

Good Lord this book was a long time coming!

In the tradition of the other Banning Sisters books, this novel was full of secret plots, spies, and intrigues.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was really never a dull moment, and every time it seemed that progress had been made, something else jumped forth to cause problems between them (just like I like it lol)

Sensitive readers should be aware that this novel contains attempted rape, kidnapping, and a sexual assault (some would call it "forced seduction

Shameless by Karen Robards
Historical Romance – April 13th, 2010
5 Stars

Shameless is the third novel in Karen Robards’s Banning Sisters trilogy. This trilogy tells the stories of each of the Banning sisters: Gabriella, Claire and Elizabeth. The first book begins with Scandalous, then Irresistible and now concludes with the final story, Shameless.

Shameless is the story of the youngest and most headstrong sister Lady Elizabeth Banning. Despite her many seasons among the ton Lady Elizabeth is con

Lady Elizabeth, or Beth can’t quite make it down the aisle. She has had numerous engagements and has broken them all. Her reputation with the ton is hanging on by a thread. Beth is going to have much more worries than just her reputation though. By chance she meets Neil Severin, who sneaks into her family’s house to kill her brother in-law, The Duke of Richmond. Neil is a spy, and needs the Duke dead. When Beth inadvertently thwarts his plan, Neil comes up with an even better plan – kidnap Beth, ...more

This is the third in a trilogy--and the best one in my view. Neil is a government asassin who has been marked for elimination by the people who employed him simply because he's too good at what he does. He belives himself that he's without redemption, but he's not quite ready to die; he just wants to be left alone so he can retire. Elizabeth is the sister-in-law of the man who put the kill order out on Neil and Neil intends to use her to get to his boss. When someone kidnaps her, the fun and the ...more

Picked up this book at the library today. Never have read anything by this author before, but what interested is the time period of 1800s (The high time of the English Ton). First chapter, already Miss Banning in a great deal of trouble; fixing to ruin her reputation. Hmmm........we shall see.

I finished this book last night; what a delightful read. I certainly will be reading more of Ms. Robards books. Her writing style is so skillful that you can perfectly picture the scenery and characters du

I had to wait a long time for this conclusion to the Banning Sisters trilogy. I was not disappointed! I really enjoyed Beth's character, although sometimes I thought she pushed the envelope a bit to far just because she could. But, we all know people like this. I also enjoyed Neil's character, but didn't particularly like the light that was shed on Nick and Hugh (the male leads from the other two books).

Overall this was fun and entertaining. It was worth waiting for.

Oh, I am so disappointed in this book! The story, which begins with such promise, seemed to me to just fall down 1/3 of the way through. The rest of the book felt rushed, and the ending tacked on. Robards is so much better than this book would have you think. Ugh. I'm going to re-read the first 2, then read this one again to see if my opinion changes.

I liked this a lot. A sexy adventure with a likable heroine, a refreshingly realistic "first time" scene (she doesn't like it much, and asks if it will be necessary to do it often. :-) ) The second book in the series, Irresistible, is still my favorite of the Bannon Sisters trilogy because, hey, pirates, but this was a fun and satisfying finale. TWO ISSUES, one big and one tiny: (view spoiler) ...more

Let it first be said that I have not yet had the ultimate pleasure of reading other romantic features from this author. I happened upon this particular book by pure chance, and I was pleasantly surprised.

It's been a long time coming since I experienced exhilaration at the hands of a book, but this one took me on a most wonderful ride. There was true excitement building as I greedily absorbed each and every word and I simply couldn't put it down. Five stars---adventure, magnificent word play, te

Hmm, I had really high hopes for this one, after the other two. And don't get me wrong, it was a great book; it's just that in comparison to Scandalous and Irresistible it was only (only! ha) a 4-star book.
It felt like it was a little thrown together in parts; and Beth was just this side of annoying.

However... the scene under the rock really made up for a wealth of sins.

I also would like to thank the author for making Neil an extremely imperfect hero. He made me cringe plenty of times! Yet I was

Recommends it for: Anyone looking for a good historical romance.
Although this is the third in a trilogy it is definitely a stand alone book. I'm sure reading about the other two sisters first gives some insight into Certain things but I didn't find I was lost or confused in the least. This was an intelligent romance.. Well more so than most LOL. I will def. Be picking up other books by Robards although it seems that this one did much better than others in the reviews.

Elizabeth Banning is breaking up with yet another fiance. Neil Severin, an assasin, is hiding in the library and overhears while her fiance attempts to force himself on her. So begins this Robard's tale of love and intrigue.

Although this was a good book of its own, I couldn't help but feel that the hero was very much like the heroes already portrayed within the prior two books. The heroine was spunky, witty and shocking when compared to her heroine sisters, and was honest with her feelings upon

My review cross-posted from Joyfully Reviewed: http://www.joyfullyreviewed.com/revie...

The gossips of the ton all agree on one thing: Lady Elizabeth Banning is a shameless flirt. She has jilted two fiancés and when she gives the third his congé, things go very badly. Luckily for Beth, a mysterious housebreaker helps her out of a precarious situation. What she doesn’t know is that Neil Severin is no housebreaker…

Government-sanctioned assassin Neil has broken into the Duke of Richmond’s h

For some reason I bought this book and didn't realize it was the third of the Banning Sisters Trilogy. For all I new, that was the only one there was of that family story. Also, I bought this book and didn't realize it was so sexually explicit, but I don't mind it that much, though it did take me by surprise at first.
Anyway, it's a very interesting story about a society woman named Beth Banning who is trying hard to fight the dread she has of compromise, sex and ruining her family's already dou

I didn't know this was the third book in the Banning sisters' trilogy when I bought it (looks like I'm not alone there), so I held off reading it thinking I would get the other two. But then I started reading and could NOT stop. And not being able to put the book down is my main requirement for 5 stars. My rating slid a tad toward 4 stars at some parts, especially toward the end when the pace changed and took me out of the moment. Because for most of the book, with the action taking place over a ...more

An unusual departure for Karen Robards, this novel takes place in England, in 1817. Lady Elizabeth Banning is the youngest of three sisters and the only one still single. She is known as somewhat of a scandalous figure for her flirtatiousness and her inability to commit to a relationship, over the course of 3 different engagements to be married. As the novel opens, in fact, Beth is breaking her 3rd engagement, to Lord Rosen, when she is rescued by a "housebreaker" by the name of Neal Severin. I ...more

I enjoyed the story - two societal misfits, a government-sponsored assassin and a young miss who's canceled three engagements. They first meet when Neil has enters Beth's brother-in-law's house to kill the person who's threatening his life. A ball is underway, and Beth has brought her third fiancee to the library to cancel their engagement. Unlike the first two, who accepted the situation, Lord Rosen doesn't and tries to rape her so that she'll have to marry him - she renders him unconscious wit ...more

Robards did a great job with this one. This was a refreshing read after months of novellas where gratuitous sex scenes, poor grammar and one-dimensional characters seemed to substitute for developed characters and actual plots. Although it did have some areas where the storyline moved too slowly in my opinion, overall it was well-written and witty. I love a book that sends me to my dictionary and this one had me feeling smarter by the end of it.

Third in this trilogy. I read the first two several years ago so didn't remember the background stories of the sisters. Nonetheless, this was a fairly gripping read. I think I prefer Robards' historicals to the contemporaries I've read. Beth is an undauntedly spirited heroine, ever up to a challenge, and although she does need rescuing frequently enough, she does her own share of rescuing. Very enjoyable read.

Karen Robards' historicals are a complete guilty pleasure for me, and I hope she writes dozens more. This long awaited conclusion to the Banning sisters trilogy focuses on Beth, the stubborn youngest sister and Neil, a desperate and dangerous man. The book, like the others in the series, is full of twists and turns and secret identities and forbidden passion and a little society intrigue. The book is by no means perfect, Beth has a good reason to fear sex and marriage, but it is glossed over a b ...more

So I picked up this book because it was cheap at Barnes and Noble. I obviously read the title too fast because I thought the book was about the Duke of Richmond since I saw his name on the book cover. Instead, it was about a young woman who has a bad history of breaking off engagements and is in the process of breaking off an engagement when she discovers an intruder in the house. She thinks the intruder is there to steal from them but instead he is actually there to kill her brother in law the ...more

I really liked the heroine in this book (Beth). I haven't read the first 2 books in this series but now I plan to. The story was different than the normal regency romance, a bit more adventurous. It was good.

Wished there was a 2.5 stars rating as I don't know whether I like his one or not. lol

I like the aspect of an anti-hero; that was completely fresh aspect, but I must admit some of the prolonged issues f the characters insecurities seemed to drag at the end of the book. Could do without the pages of flowery bits of "love" scenes. To be honest, I just skim to look for plot points. (I know, what's the point of a Romance without those embellishments? Right? ha.)

Overall Impression: Fair read. But I w
