I started reading Eric Haney's books because of his association with Delta Force and my fascination with these elite, multi-talented soldiers. However, if you are looking for a book about commandos, I would recommend Haney's other books "Inside Delta Force" (non-fiction) and "No Man's Land" (fiction based closely on Haney's actual experience). In "Low Country," Kennesaw Tanner (the main character) functions much like a detective in a mystery novel.

What I enjoy most about Haney's writing is his

"Low Country" is a suspense novel. Kennesaw was only in danger once in the first 195 (of 295) pages, so it's not a thriller like the author's first novel. The first two-thirds of the novel lacked suspense and focus. The plot rambled about in a leisurely fashion with the characters pessimistically commenting on various social issues or past events that had no direct impact on the plot. The action seemed to consist mainly of several dates with a lady cop and interacting with various friends rather ...more

Mr. Haney continues the adventures of Kennesaw Tanner, now back in the US to the investigation hinted in No Man's Land. For those of you who are fans of Tom Clancy but would rather follow John Kelly/Clark than Jack Ryan, do read this book. It reminded me so very much of Without Remorse, but with a more mature, not troubled lead character. In fact this volume does the character developing that was only initiated in No Man's Land, and this will account for a slower, though necessarily so, pace. It ...more

When I received an email asking me if I would like to review Low Country, I knew I had to read it as soon as I saw that the author is also the Producer of The Unit. My husband and I are huge fans of the show, so I figured it would be a good idea to check out his writing skills. I'm really glad I did! Eric is a brilliant writer with a knack for action scenes. I am now a huge fan! If you like military books, this is a must read.
