"Regardless of the subject, the writing is always tight and has that sort of delayed sting as you realize the sleeping prejudice he's been pricking. And nothing is sacrosanct."—Jeff Dawson, co-author of Stitching a Revolution: The Making of an Activist

The International Homosexual Conspiracy is non-fiction. The author presents a series of cultural polemics on an array of contemporary topics that pokes fun of the gay lifestyle and the absurd homophobic idea that gay’s recruit young people into our community – from gay community, to writing, to popular culture, and mostly on homosexuality in general.

In this collection of short essays, Larry-Bob Roberts offers funny, thought-provoking insights into the absurdities of modern queer culture. The wr

The IHC is nothing more more than a poorly written, mean spirited blog with no real insights. Larry-Bob Roberts' diatribes sound more like junior high school bitch sessions than observant social commentary. Knowing that Roberts writes a zine called Holy Tit Clamps without any other contributors - and without the aid of an editor to help guide his thoughts or style - helps explain how he managed to come up with a entire book of opinions that will likely interest no one: he works alone, and thinks ...more
If I could, I would issue a copy of this new book to every impressionable young gay person just taking those first little timid babysteps out of the closet, in an effort to keep them the hell off of the so-called Right Path of the cookie-cutter mainstream gay scene; I'd encourage them instead to stray over to the less-traveled DIY realm of Larry-Bob and his friends, where folks are encouraged to color outside of the lines and make up their own lyrics, while having a lot more fun thinking for the ...more

A collection of brief essays, divided into eight broad thematic categories. I found them wildly inconsistent -- some of them were poignant and interesting, and some just didn't work for me. I preferred the more sincere ones, I think -- something about Roberts' style of satire simply falls flat to me, and doesn't seem complex or thoughtful enough to really work. Much more interesting to me were the pieces about Roberts' adventures in flyering, event-going, and generally trying to be socially enga ...more
