I truly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The author not only made me care about her characters, but she also brought trail life and pre-Statehood California to life. This made me care about Deborah and her family and friends even more by placing them in a world not too far removed from my own (I live in Northern California).

For anyone who enjoys historical fiction, this should be the next novel you read.
