Julia pulled this off a shelf in the library the other day after being on a kick about my Dad driving a truck. I didn't even glance at with because my arms were full but after looking at it at home I realized it's for a much younger child. Definitely not one as well read as Julia. But..... she wanted to read it and what Julia says goes so.... we read it.
I think I'm being nice with the whole 'two stars' thing. Really. This is just so basic it brought to mind 'Why bother?'. One of the two good thi...more

Yesterday I mentioned that I was heading to the library to pick up a book. Fritz wanted to come, but I explained to him I was leaving directly from work and would not be able to take him. He asked instead that I pick up a book about trucks for him. Surely, I would. This is the book I book I selected.

Each two-page spread displays a different kind of truck (garbage, bulldozer, street sweeper, etc.). There is a ton of onomatopoeia here as each truck is explained.

I'm a street sweeper driver.

My 2yr old LOVED this book! He loves all kinds of trucks!!! He even fell asleep with it!
He has a short attention span for books, depending on what book it is.
Short sentences per page. Rhyming and sounds.

I'm a Power Shovel operator.
I dig up the land
I operate the gears,
and scoop up the sand!

Then we look at the illustrations. They are very well done.
We look to see if it's a boy or a girl driving the "truck"
And see if there is a kitty or dog (one on each page, the girl has a kitty, the boy has the d...more

This book is GREAT! The front and the end papers have like thousands of trucks, all with this great faces and things. Then, every single page has a GREAT BIG TRUCK!!! And there's a little boy like me DRIVING ALL OF THEM!!! Plus, he has a dog that looks like Dodger.

Thanks Los Feliz Library!

I won this in a First Reads giveaway. We received it today and my two-year old just insisted that I read it to her four times in a row. She loves the truck sounds and the expressive faces on the trucks. I love the rich colors and the snappy text. I can see this becoming a daily read.

Another winner from an author who really knows how to chose his words and pace them perfectly. The bold bright illustrations are just the right match. Two copies on my shelf, but they will seldom stay there long once the truck lovers spot this one!

I gave this 5 stars because it's exactly the type of book the my truck-loving toddler wants. A brief description (with noises) of a variety of trucks, from snow plows to street sweepers to cement mixers.

This book is a perfectly done big machines book for the toddler set. Very colorful illustrations, a nice rhyme, onomatopoeia, and heavy pages that are not quite board all make this a great choice!

Great for transportation storytime. Big bright illustrations and great sounds! The street sweeping truck goes "shusha, shusha, shusha"--how fun is that with a group of toddler/preschoolers?
Natasha
Bright, bold pictures that will carry well for toddler storytimes. The variety of trucks is enjoyable-- the young kiddos who can't get enough of machines will love this one.
Abby
