Nothing on earth can make this vampire fall in love . . .

After 499 years of existence, Connor Buchanan has arrived at an inescapable conclusion: he is a cold-hearted SOB. He's been watching his friends--those poor romantic fools--plummet off the cliff into love like a dazed herd of sheep. But not Connor. He knows that love leads to nothing but heartache.

Until Marielle . ....more

--- ARC edition read ---

I read How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire, the first book in this series, and absolutely loved it! The underground Vamp culture, abilities, and characters that were created in that first book were hilariously endearing.

Now I enter into the 10th installment of the Love at Stake series and am reintroduced to Connor Buchanan. Connor is a vampire on the cusp of his 500th birthday and is going through what his friends are calling a mid-life crisis. Is he buying fancy cars and...more

while I really do like this series, I'm not totally obsessed about it. There were 2 or 3 books I really loved in it and the rest were entertaining. I know I will always keep reading the books in it that get release because I do enjoy this series big time. This book was actually better than I thought it would be. Before the previous books I had been having a bad time with this series, but last book was amazing and this one was as well, I read it in less than a day. Sparks is an great author that...more

Funny, humorous, some hahaha moment that crack me up and make my stomach hurt (because I laugh so hard) and make me throw noodles at my bed when read this (true!) => note to my self : don't eat anything on your bed, it will be disaster :P

The story is good, not my favorite, not the best at this series, but I'm enjoy it.

Because I'm so lazy to write review about the story, characterization, etc, so just enjoy my character image for both hero and heroine.

My pick for Marielle , a cast out angel

Loved this book! it's on my top 5 favorite "Love at
Stake" books. Ms. Sparks did a great job with this
couple. It was refreshing from the usual human/vampire
couple, it was getting a bit annoying...

So this book is about Connor and Marriele, this couple
is hilarious together! I laugh a lot. Marriele is so
sweet, innocent and so naive when it comes to being
human. But she's so brave when it comes to fighting
for what she wants, never sits around and wait for her
prince to save her. She's one of my favo...more

Vampire Mine: Four stars of Fun

Lately, I have really missed reading paranormal romances. So randomly, last night I decided to take a stab at finding one to read. I stumbled across this book and thought it would be wonderful because its got good ratings and a fallen angel plot. I have never read a story with an angel in it so I was intrigued. However, this is book 10 and I have never even read the descriptions of books 1-9. I knew it was a risk, but I decided to take it. It actually turned out re...more

Another fun read in Kerrelyn Sparks' Love at Stake series! Each story builds from the previous (9) books, but each couple's situation in each book is unique from any other. The common thread is that of Romatech Industries that sells synthetic blood to humans and vampires, and the MacKay Security company and its employees who protect the Vamps from the Malcontents and others who might seek to harm the Vamps. The Malcontents are vampires that would rather drink and kill the human source.

They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but you certainly can be drawn in by one! That’s exactly what drew me to buy Kerrelyn Sparks Vampire Mine – of course after reading the back cover.

Vampire Mine combines some of the more tradition vampire traits (can’t go out in the sun, drink blood, increased strength) and some of the newer ones (mind reading, teleportation) to form a vampire you wouldn’t want to mess with. Out of all the vampire books I’ve read, I’ve never had a vampire cross paths...more

I put off reading this one, due to some reviews, but mostly because I was afraid it wouldn't do Connor justice. Aside from the deceiving cover art, I really enjoyed this book. Connor was awesome and I loved getting to know him and watching the internal battle in Marielle was thrilling as well. I enjoyed the honesty in their relationship and how it was intense, but felt so real.

The viewpoints trading off, made it very satisfying. And I remembered why some other authors have been bothering me. Sp...more

What happens when a Scottish vampire, self-proclaimed SOB and eternal bachelor, suddenly finds an angel in his hands, someone soft, kind, loving and completely innocent. Sparks fly!

Not voluntarily, mind you, Connor doesn't want to feel, he doesn't want to be drawn to Mariella, he is - in his mind - destined to be alone and liking that just fine, thank you. But it proves to be difficult when the hurt he's suffered is being healed just by the presence of an angel.

Mariella disobeyed for the third a...more

Kerrelyn Sparks Love at Stake series is fun and sexy. This is book 10 for the series and I picture at least 2 more from the set up we find in this book...

Our main vamp is one of my favorite in the series - Connor - he's holding the sanity and security of his friends and family by straws. All around the vampires are succumbing to love. He's helped make connections and tried to keep his friends on track, but he's a red-headed scot with a chip on his shoulder. I'm so happy he's finally getting his...more

I debated what to rate this. The fact is, I didn’t like this book at all. Not even a little bit. I’ve read the whole series and while, in general, they work for me. This one did not on any level. But I still gave it a three because the book was average. It wasn’t a horrendous mess. It was simply that I didn’t connect with it.

I actually thought, with about 100 pages to go, that I wouldn’t be able to finish it.

There were two major problems in this book, (1) characterization and (2) things happenin...more

Angels and Vampires and Demons ... oh my!

I often wondered just what kind of woman would be Connor Buchanan’s downfall. I never could have guessed who author Kerrelyn Sparks would have chosen! Truthfully, though it took some time for me to wrap my brain around the idea of an angel and a vampire, once I’d finished this book I knew that there was no more perfect mate for Connor.

Connor tore my heart out in this book. He’s so sad, and carries a black cloud with him everywhere he goes. His heart is...more

Love at Stake Series

Connor Buchanan is going through a midlife crisis of the immortal vampire type. Sure he’s gorgeous and perpetually young in appearance but he’s pushing the old 5..0…0 and everyone is starting to worry about him. He’s convinced he is a cold-hearted bastard, just ask him, he’ll tell you. This despite constant evidence to the contrary. He’s looking at the half millennium mark with a cold cynical ey...more

I was uncertain about this one since it included an angel. Being a religious person, I'm not typically a fan of how people portray angels coming to Earth. Marielle was endearing and naive, but not to a flaw (though I have a hard time believing that any angel would be naive if sent on a mission to Earth - they seem to be quite confident when they make appearances in the Bible). I recently tried to read another angel-on-Earth book and could barely stomach how dysfunctional she was, which is why I...more

This was absolutely one of my favorites in the series, which totally surprised me, considering it was the one I'd dreaded reading the most. I obviously wanted to know Connor's background, but romance stories about fallen angels usually turn me off. In this case, it was so smoothly done that it was pretty believable (as believable as a book about vampires dating angels can be, lol). One of my favorite parts of the series is how they incorporate a religious background for the vampires. It makes th...more

I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars on this one. I'm giving it 4 because I needed a read like this and the timing was perfect for me. At another time, I would have given it a 3. There were some funny moments, but a lot of those funny moments might prove to be .... sacrilegious? to some people. Sparks has stepped out of the average vamp, shifter, human roles and added a new element to the story. It was nice to have a change seeing as how things tend to get stale 10 books in. However, I can see a lot o...more

This novel is the latest installment in Sparks's Love at Stake series, so it follows the further adventures and romantic mishaps of the Vamps (these are the good vampires in the books), whose leader is Roman Draganesti, formerly a medieval monk, and inventor of synthetic blood, which is what the Vamps drink, instead of human blood.

Since this is only my second novel in the series, and I'm a Sparks fan, I really need to go back and catch up by reading the rest of them. Besides, I don't have the b...more

Vampire Mine is like a decadent calorie-free dark chocolate morsel; sinful and satisfying and so good for you that you instantly feel better even as your body cries out for more. Ms. Sparks has a way of writing that sucks you right into the storyline, the lives of the characters, and the very heart of their battles. Not only were the emotional aspects of this novel brimming over, but the new experiences Marielle had with items such as tying shoes, eating ice cream, and feeling human desire made...more

Vampire Mine
By Kerrelyn Sparks

Connor has always thought of himself as a cold-hearted bastard, he has been carrying a black spot in his heart for so long that he feels he does not deserve love. Marielle is an angle of death that has disobeyed her orders to many times and for that she has been banished from heaven, Connor finds her in the meadows and that's when Connor's life turns around, Marielle has a way to look into his heart and affect him in a way that no one has ever done before. What wil...more

Another winner by Kerrelyn Sparks.

I have to say I was thoroughly surprised by this book. I feared it would be too religious for my tastes or that it would undermine religion in general. I put off reading it for a while. However, it was not at all what I expected.

The main Vampire we learn more about in this book is Connor. Connor has a horrible past that haunts him. Throughout the book he feels as though he is not worthy of forgiveness or love. He is proven wrong in the eyes of a "fallen angel" M...more

This is the first book of the series that I have read. How can you not fall in love with a Scottish vampire in a kilt?

I felt bits and pieces from other series I've read (and loved) throughout this book. There is a little Christine Feehan Dark Ones feel to it with the family-like relationship between all the vamps and the relationship with the priest. Certain scenes (eating chocolate and ice cream) reminded me of Aeron and Olivia in Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series, which were bot...more

If you thought turning 40 was tough, try being a vampire turning 500. Connor Buchanon, bodyguard to Roman and his family is well on his way to a mid-life crisis. Not to mention being surly, and isolating himself from his fellow immortals. And to make matters worse, when Connor brings a wounded woman back to Draganesti Enterprises for treatment, she inadvertently causes great harm to one of his charges - since the woman is not human or vamp but something quite different and quite deadly - okay yo...more

I seem to be reading a lot of novels recently that are part of a long-standing series that I’ve never read. Happily enough, it seems to be that most of them work fairly well as standalones, despite the fact that there are obviously relationships that have been detailed in previous novels.

Despite the quickness in which the relationship developed between Marielle and Connor, I still greatly enjoyed their story. The quirky...more

Overall, Vampire Mine was an enjoyable read, but it really didn’t keep my attention. Not like a few books I’ve recently read have. Although, I have to be honest, this could be due to the fact that I was reading a print novel. I’ve really been into using my Kindle lately and seem to be able to fly through stories with it; but when it came to a print version, I had to remind myself that I was reading an actual book instead. I’m not sure if this impacted my impressions or not, but while I wasn’t ab...more

The first time Connor made an appearance in this series I wanted to read his story. He's a grouchy Scottish Vampire who protects everyone around him with no thought to his own needs. I knew he would fall hard when he met his mate. So, I think I started off the book with giddiness and unrealistic expectations. The picture threw me first because in my mind he was more gruff looking, but hey, it's a cool cover and the artist couldn't see into my mind, nor would they want to. I loved the heroine, an...more

Ok so I like this series and had the book on pre-order eons ago, but when it came I actually read the back to see what it was about and was so sure I would hate it! I was wrong. While the plot is corny, I found it interesting to read from the point of view of a grown woman who has been alive since the third day that God was creating the universe, but is completely new to having a solid body, and feeling emotions that she had never experienced before as an angel.

There is a lot of spiritual disco...more

O.M.G!!! A Vampire and Angel.. Oh My My.. I was completely shocked how the main story shifted. I never thought Angel could be in it But Again Kerrelyn surprised us. Connor definitely needs an angel. He is full of regrets. No wonder he is so dark and aloof all the time. It was realy great knowing him.. Casimir dead At last!.. By Connor's hand.. I am so happy. But Damn that Corky.. released a video to the mortal of Vampires really exist!.. Hate her as usual but I have to admit, she is fun to read....more

Kerrelyn Sparks is the New York Times bestselling author of a series that mimics its sexy heroes by refusing to die. Now up to book twelve, the Love at Stake series spreads laughter worldwide in thirteen different languages. In spite of a tendency to nibble on necks or howl at the moon, Kerrelyn’s vampire and shapeshifter heroes are still wonderfully romantic.

“one of my favorites:

Robby gave her a skeptical look. "Ye're an angel of death. No offense, but I would call that a wee bit of harm."

"We're called Deliverers, actually. And we're not supposed to take someone before their time."

"How does that work?" Gregori lifted his camera, focusing on her. "I mean do you just go down a line, saying, 'Eenie meenie mynie moe, sorry, dude you gotta go'?”

“What are you waiting for?" shanna asked. "He's dying! Do it!"
Conner looked at Angus. "Ye do it. It was yer idea."
"Nay? Ye were the first to suggest it. Ye do it."
"I'm no' touching him." Conner said.
He nudged Phineas "Ye do it."
"I don't even know how!" Phineas poked at Robby. "You do it."
"Why me?" Robby turned to Angus. "Ye're the expert. Ye do it."
Angus grimaced. "I'm no' doing it. I hate the bugger."
"Stop it!" Shanna screamed "You- Forget it! I'll do it myself."
"Shanna you don't know how," Roman said.
"Gods blood. I guess I have to do it."
"You guess?" Shanna cried "Are you going to let him die?"
"He threatens to kill me every time he sees me.”
