A NEW DAVID BOOK!

That's what I said upon finding this on the shelf in my local library. I love that. When something you would have anticipated the arrival of, had you known it was about to exist, is just There one day. Hurrah!

But about the book... I know David isn't for everyone. I know some find it garish, but I'm not one of those people. I might develop a staring problem looking at this book because David Small is SO. DAMN. GOOD. The expressions are perfect and funny, as us More...

Always in the background, we know Santa Claus is watching, soon to decide if David deserves a shiny new fire truck or a lump of coal under the tree. From playing with delicate ornaments to standing in an endlessly long line for Santa, here are common Christmas activities--but with David's naughty trimmings. (Goodreads Summary)

It's Christmas, David! by David Shannon is another in the No, David series. As a 'David', I enjoy these stories, but it's becoming the same old joke. Some parts More...

This is another humorous tale in the David series by David Shannon. David is as naughty as ever (we laughed so hard at the pages that depict a naked David wearing only a hat, mittens and boots running down the street - just like in the first book, No, David! - only with snow on the ground and Christmas decorations on the house.) Fergus, our favorite little West Highland terrier, makes an appearance on that page as well as on the one where David writes his name in the snow - I had to explain th More...

We began with this story after our usual greeting of "The More We Get Together" and "Hello Everybody, Let's ..." because....

N is for No and even though the holidays are exciting there are a LOT of No's.
No peeking.
No snitching cookies.
Ornaments are NOT toys.
and so forth.

Near the end of the story David goes to sleep and...

HAS A NIGHTMARE (n would be for nightmares too)
He dreams he wakes up Christmas morning and More...

David Hannon’s first book, No, David, that he both wrote and illustrated back in 1998 was a Caldecott Honor book and he has been popular ever since. David is a big, toothy grinned child that gets into everything. In this case he is trying to peek into the Christmas presents or sneaking around where he shouldn’t be. If you have purchased his books in the past you will want to add this one to the mix as well. Otherwise see if you can find it at the library.

3.5 - I think this is the first "David" book we've read and I have to admit that I was expecting more text. I will admit that for the minimal text this was surprisingly fun to read and, from Julia's face, very fun to hear as well.
The art is some of the most fun and engaging I've seen. The look on Julia's face - and probably my own - when we got to the 'twist' part was awesome. No one was expecting that and it was great to laugh out loud together while finishing the book.

My usual complaint about Christmas books with favorite characters seeming a bit forced is only slight on this title...children will be shocked by the false ending. I almost cried myself and saw the looks of horror on my daughters' faces. Luckily, there's another few pages to go. Now that I have a boy, I understand David's character quite a bit more. He's authentic!

Caught it at the bookfair ... and it just so perfectly describes all of the "NO"s a little one gets around the holidays (with the requisite naked behind picture that I know I shouldn't think is funny but seriously ... it is) I can't help but like it.

I know it's not for everyone. But we'll need at least two copies in the library.

It's Christmas, David is another great story from the No, David series. This book is geared toward children ages 3-5 due to the minimal text and humorous pictures. This story would be good to read to a class and to discuss appropriate and inappropriate behaviors. I would particularly read this text around Christmastime.

I just love David and my kids do too.

In this edition, David is being naughty at Christmastime. The kids love yelling at David when he is doing bad things. I like to use these books to reinforce appropriate and inappropriate behaviors! Thanks, David. :)

I love all David Shannon's work, and I find the books that he wrote about himself as a child particularly fun. This one is David at Christmas time, and how hard it was for him to be patient and good, but how Christmas was still wonderful.

I give this one three stars, my son would give it five. I love the David books but found myself tired of the adults sounding so grouchy in this one. My youngest loved it, however, so maybe I need to reevaluate.

This was recommended by 2 women in my book club as a fun new Christmas book for kids. It looked fun on the outside, but David is unbelievable. I ended up thinking he would give mischievous ideas to my grandkids.

I love the David books, and this one doesn't disappoint! Has David really been so bad that Santa isn't going to leave him any presents?... This one will be hugely popular. I hope I can do it for storytime!

David returns just in time for the holidays. He spends his days getting in trouble for snitching cookies and playing with the ornaments. A fun continuation of the No, David! books.

What a fun Christmas book! Who can't relate to all the do's and don'ts David gets around Christmas time?! The illustrations are just delightful! This one almost gets 5 stars!

I love David! He reminds me of so many of the little boys I've known and loved--including my own. Is David too naughty for Santa to bring gifts? or does Santa love him anyway?

David is being naughty, and his parents are reminding him that Santa is always watching. David must change his antics or he might not be getting any gifts.

Around Christmas time, everyone always said, “No David!” whenever he tried to do anything! No peeking at presents, no stealing cookies, no playing with ornaments, no opening presents early. And then he also had to be patient in lines, be polite at the dinner table, and go to sleep on time. Of course, David does get into some funny trouble in the book with a reprise of one of the most popular scenes from an earlier David book that is sure to delight young readers. A grand and very funny look More...
