It happened at the ball….
Where beautiful but bold Lillian Bowman quickly learned that her independent American ways weren’t entirely “the thing.” And the most disapproving of all was insufferable, snobbish, and impossible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, London’s most eligible aristocrat.

It happened in the garden….
When Marcus shockingly—and dangerously—swept her into his arms. Lill

It Happened One Autumn was a good read but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I was really looking forward to Lillian's book. I loved her brash, foul mouthed, outspoken american ways. I couldn't wait for her to bring Westcliff to his knees. So I was a little disappointed that for half the book Westcliff fought his attraction to Lillian. I also didn't like that Lord St. Vincent was trying to court her or that they kissed. I wanted Westcliff to go a

Why are the best books the hardest to review? I'm not sure I can come up with enough superlatives for this one, the second book in Lisa Kleypas's magical Wallflowers series. I think she hit the ball out of the park with this humorous, emotional, romantic read!

I had my doubts coming into this, after reading Secrets of a Summer Night. In that book Marcus, Lord Westcliff (most eligible bachelor in England), was such an uptight, humorless stick-in-the-mud--how was I going to fall for him in his own

In London (1843) a pact is made between 4 wallflowers. They will help each other find husbands starting with the oldest and working down to the youngest.

(1) Annabelle is the oldest of the pact. Married - first book.
(2) Lillian is a rich American who has not acclimated to England.
(3) Evie is painfully shy and stutters.
(4) Daisy is the younger sister to Lillian.

IT HAPPENED ONE AUTUMN is another GREAT installment in this series of wallflowers. Lil

WOW! I loooved this second installment in Kleypas’s extraordinary Wallflowers series about four very different young ladies in Victorian era England society whose deep bond of friendship sustains them through the trials and tribulations of life, family, relationships, and love.

Wow! Another fun installment of The Wallflowers series.

I love the way Lisa Kleypas developes her characters. Subtly, without pages and pages of narrative descriptives. We learn about them by seeing them in action, or through the eyes of others.

It was such a joy to watch Marcus, Lord Westcliff, put aside the bitterness of his childhood, the will of his mother and the demands of his title and just allow himself to experience the emotions which, despite his best efforts, were awakened by Lillian Bo

One thing's for sure: Westcliff, the hero, has much more patience for ill-mannered houseguests than I do. The houseguest in question being the heroine, Miss Lillian Bowman.

The brash American heiress and the starchy English earl, so much potential especially in the hand of such a skilled author, and in fact, for the greater part the book delivered on all accounts and I enjoyed most of their scenes together immensely. If only Lillian had been a little less confrontational. I understand

This is one of the funniest historical romances I have read and I laughed out loud so many times. The Wallflower series is one of the most wonderful historical romance series out there! But I really recommend that you read this series in order. The first time, I read Devil in Winter before this one, and that was clearly a mistake since I knew pretty much the whole twist.

Lillian is a wonderful strong, brazen, independent, American heroine and I really like

This was a great second entry into the Wallflower series. I really enjoyed this story and I firmly believe that Lillian and Westcliff are soulmates. They are both strong, vital people who are not afraid to say what they think and do what they want to do. Westcliff is a very arrogant man and very opinionated. He came off as being a little bit snobby in some ways. Not in the sense that he was too good to associate with self-made men of working class origins. He was very forward-thinking in that ma ...more

And that, yes that, is why I continue to read books like this.

Four young ladies enter London society with one necessary goal: they must use their feminine wit and wiles to find a husband. So they band together, and a daring husband-hunting scheme is born.

This book is another great addition to the highly entertaining wish-fulfilment romance that is the Wallflower series. What this series does so well is the female bonding/friendships. The wallflowers recognise a basic fact, that being a woman comes with certain disadvantages and loss of privileges men nev

Solid 4 stars.

I've never been a chronological reader; I just pick up whatever book that catches my fancy. When I read It Happened One Autumn for the first time, I had no idea what I was getting into—I started the series with it. The description had simply intrigued me, since I've always been a fan of the "stoic-hero-cracks-under-the-heroine's-spell" trope, a la Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet.

But this time around, after re-reading the series, I find myself having a totally deeper appreciation o

Another good read. Love to see the aristocracy brought to their knees by the lower classes! And by an American, no less.

Marcus, Lord Westcliff is one of the most eligible bachelors in England. He knows it is his duty to marry well. Someone of his own station ... but he is attracted to a brash American girl. And he is not happy. He does not like her, he does not want to be attracted to her! And the feeling is mutual from her.

And once he had passed judgment on someone, he rarely changed his opini

I am glad to say that this book is another 5 stars from Kleypas' Wallflower series; and another book into my faves shelf.

I loved this book. It was amazing from the begining to the end. I must say that while in the first book I got infratuated with the story, in this one I did with the characters, Lillian and Marcus were perfect for each other. I really liked Lillian, I guess I must really like it when the woman is strong and doesn't back down because that was what I apreciated more from her pers

Miss Annabelle Payton, Miss Lillian Bowman, Miss Evangeline Jenner and Miss Daisy Bowman are regular sights at the peripheral of a ballroom. Each young lady has their own difficulties making them untenable prospects to the bachelors of the ton. However, they strike up an unlikely friendship each vowing to help the others out to find a husband by means fair and foul. After Annabelle’s successful marriage to Mr Hunt, it is now the turn of the dollar princess, Miss Lillian Bowman, she is both irre
Every time Westcliff glanced at her, touched her, smiled at her, it provoked a feeling that she had never known before. A painful feeling of yearning that made her want impossible things.

Lillian Bowman might be a wallflower, but she sure doesn’t act like one. I loved how headstrong she is, she’s passionate, opinionated and not shy at all. Her parents had brought her and her sister from America to England, hoping they could find husbands for their daughters, and hopefully they would be nobilit

Another 5 star story from Kleypas' Wallflower series!

The quintessential domineering, opinionated and infuriating alpha up against a woman who is the farthest thing from a shrinking violet! These two butt heads from the first book and continue on in book 2 but when they get together they just just melt off the pages. The romance makes your eyes all watery and you're sighing so, so slowly with a choked voice: Ohhhh myyyyy gawwwwwwd **sigh, sigh sigh** (!!)

I was really excited for Lillian and Marcus’ book because of all the tension and fighting they had in the first book! I think the relationship between Lillian and Marcus really super cute.

I LOVE LOVE Lord Marcus Westcliff. He can land any single lady because of his title and money. He’s not the typical gentleman, in the sense, he likes to work and he may seem snobby, but his best friend is a common man.

Lillian is the opposite of what Marcus is looking for in a wife. First off, she’s American! *

If a girl tells you to stop and is literally fighting against you, you should probablyyyyyyy stop kissing her. Just sayin'.
Other than that, I'm having a lot of fun reading these and I'm absolutely loving the female friendships!

The Quick Rundown is it is the Wallflowers turn to help Lillian find a husband and what better place to start looking than at Westcliff’s estate. They have been invited to the country estate because Westcliff is doing business with Lillian’s father. It seems that even though Westcliff is bound and determined to do his duty and find a nice English girl to settle down with someday he can’t get the often crass and willful American out of his head. Every time he gets close to her his senses disappea ...more

This series came to me at just the right time in my life, *sucky*, and has me smiling while I read.

Thank you, Nicole!

I think I liked this one slightly more than the first - if that's possible. And, it wasn't just because of the hero/heroine, it was the side characters. St. Vincent is sex-on-a-stick awesomeness wrapped in a dangerously beautiful burrito wrapper. One please!
