The flair that Brian Jacques has for mesmerizing descriptive writing never fails him, and some of his most resplendently fashioned paragraphs appear in the pages of this tenth book of the Redwall saga.

This book deserves one star simply because by this point in the series (and in fact, by some time before), the books in the Redwall saga may as well be factory produced. Whereas most books in the Redwall series at least attempt to pull a new twist on the Redwall world (travels in new directions, unique heroes and villains, etc) 'The Long Patrol' merely tells another story, with the same character types, the same quests, the same villain aspects, etc.
Having said that, it should be More...

The Long Patrol: A young hare named Tammo longs to be in the Long Patrol, a fierce fighting force that protects all of Salmandastron. However, he joins a small army of various animals that, led by Lady Cregga Rose Eyes, battles the legendary Rapscallion, in the name of defending Redwall Abbey. The ending is known, but a few twists and turns make this book worth every page.

Ahhhhh, taking me back to my days in middle school. I used to read these Red Wall books all the time when I was younger, they were practically the only books I read. This one was probably my favorite, and I had a long plane ride to New Orleans so I thought why not. It was just as enjoyable as I remember it being. Basically the whole plot of these books can be summed up in a phrase my dad used to describe them "It's just about furry little animals who kill each other!" Which is perfectl

The story of The Long Patrol follows the adventure of young hare Tammo as he seeks to join the famous Long Patrol of Salamandastron. Well written and full of attention grabbing adventure, this story never lets down. While the battle scene and rescue are predictable, the details that present themselves as the story plays out keep the reader spellbound, waiting to find out what happens next, with every word read. This is a great adventure story for all ages and is a page turner. I highly recommen

If you're a reader who loves adventure and fantasy I highly recommend this book to you. The Long Patrol is an action packed book filled with mystery and battle.
In this story Tammo, a young hare, runs away from home only to find himself in the Long Patrol, a group of perilous hares who fight evil. Damug Warfang is a evil rat that is going to try to take over Mossflower, a peaceful woodland region. Damug and the thousand vermin at his side attack Tammo and five hundred of the Long Patro More...

Out of the eight Redwall books I have read in the series, The Long Patrol has been my favorite. A bit shorter than the others, it weaves together the hares of the Long Patrol of Salamandastron and the warriors of Redwall in a massive battle against the Rapscallion Army of Great-rats. I find the military jargon of he hares- especially their bantering while fighting- an appealing part of the narrative. This particular Redwall adventure has some severely poignant moments. Definitely one to read

The book in the point of view of a hare named Tammo runs off with a skilled squirrel named Russa Nodrey. While battling their way to Redwall, they soon meet hares of the Long Patrol and learned of the tale of the Rapscillions. Joining forces, the party set their sights on Redwall. Before they reach the abbey, Russa was killed and a badger babe was founded. Meanwhile, the army of Rapscillions in the command of Damug moves inner towards Mossflower eager to claim it as it on. The Long Patrol

Who doesn't love the hares? Their personality made stronger by their ability to eat one out of house and home as well as their magnificent accents (wot wot), hares simply add flavor to each of Jacques' books so I'm very glad he devoted one to them.
I hope I wasn't the only one who noticed the name Cregga Rose Eyes straight off, and felt a pang of sadness knowing what was coming. But that's what makes the Redwall series great; even oh so many books later, one never forgets a familiar face.

I remember that when I had read this book the first time around, I had been waiting for a year or so since reading the previous book in the series. Right now, I’m reading the whole series in chronological order and it’s nice not having such a long gap that I forget who was in the previous book and such. I noticed that I wasn’t as attached to a lot of these characters compared to past books. The battle scene really stood out compared to other battles for some reason. So, I think I’d give this boo

Read this a while back, so am not clear on the details. This is one of those anthropomorphic type adventure stories that the kid in me will always love. Oh yes, and the descriptions of food and feasts in Brian Jacques books never fail to make my stomach rumble - if there is a category for food envy in literature, Brian Jacques would be one of the master-chefs.

My introduction to the magical world of Redwall. I want to thank whichever teacher or librarian gave this book to me as a gift, it is still on the favorites shelf in my room.
If I was to read them now, I might not give any of them five or even four stars. But the fact remains that when I read them, they were amazing. And that's worth something.

this is the book that got my into the redwall series. i found it very good and was hooked in the first chapter. though it's not the best method to start with the 10th book in the series, most of the books aren't directly linked so i wasn't left confused. at points i laughed, at others i was almost crying. one of my favorites :)

This was the first in the series that I read. I read it when I was in about the second grade. These are great books. They may be voilent, but believe or not there are some good lessons to be had on honor and chivalry. I am glad that Brian Jacques wrote these and is still alive to continue to write them.

One of my favorite Redwall books (hence the extra star). =) I enjoyed the change of having a Long Patrol hare as one of the main "heroes" or narrators instead of Redwall characters. It was different in a good way. Realistic and shed some tears at the sacrifice and bravery of those hares. =)

The Long Patrol represents a worth addition to a wondrous series of triumphal stories. Brian Jacques again reminds us of just how important it is to see every hair and feel every emotion of his characters. And he leaves us with nothing less than a portrait of unrelenting courage.

Being a fond of animals as well as having a fascination with mid-evil stories the Redwall series is on of my favorites. Among the series is the "Long Patrol" which is a suspensful thrill as the team of hares races to defend the beloved Redwall Abey which is the hub for all kind loving animals in the land. Brian Jacques Displays his creativity and skill by implementing varied accents in the dialogue.

This is the first book of the series we listened to in audiobook format and we were hooked! My kids love listening to it. The audio books are super long, like ten hours, so they are great for road trips.

Immediately my new favorite of Brain Jacques when I read it. Full of the classic humor of the hares of Salamanastron, it is one that will tug at your heart and make you scream Euliiiaaa! as you read.

This one is one of my favorites from this series. It has a lot of action/ fighting, and is pretty violent. I like the way that the main character is learning things throughout the entire book.

One of my favorite child hood fantasy series. I still love it and occasionally pick one out to read for a light and easy novel. I have read the series many times.

You can't help but fall in love with the hilarious, quirky hares. Finally, a Redwall tale with them as the main characters! Definitely worth the read!

This one is mostly hares of the Long Patrol and the Rapscallion vermin horde. It is perhaps more violent than others of the series.

I used to love this Redwall series by Brian Jacques when I was a kid. This was one I never read, so it was nice to jump back into this world I enjoyed so much when I was younger. It's exactly what you'd expect from a kids' adventure book...good vs. evil, talking animals, very clearly defined roles for the characters...but if you're looking for a childrens' series for some light reading, this is one I'd recommend.

The Long Patrol started off brillantly, and different than the other Redwall books. Just when I got to the final showdown between the good and the bad, the story started to lack excitment, and everything just seemed fake. I REALLY wanted to like this book, I thought it would be so good I'd end up LOVING it, but I didn't even finish it. I got close enough to the end to put it on this list, thought. Maybe later I will reread it and look upon it with a fresh mind.

I've only read two Brian Jacques books and this one was the better of the two. It was extremely realistic in that major characters in the story died. It was extremely unrealistic in the fact that the animals walked and talked and made hotcakes.
The Long Patrol made a valiant stand for Redwall but they couldn't have done it without Cregga and her company. The rapscallion rats (or were they shrews?) proved to be not very organized and did not fight well. They only proved a threat becaus More...

All the Brian Jacques books I have read were excellent, although I have not read the whole series. Eventually, I will.
