This was the beginning of my addiction to POTter. I had previously experimented with and enjoyed POTter on 3 different occasions, but could easily have walked away and never touched the stuff again. Then, under some pressure from some POTterHEAD peers of mine, I tried the newest blend called the Goblet...and everything changed. As the warm, easy, potato chip prose crossed my blood-brain barrier, euphoria ensued. My inner child was smitten.

I'm a Harry Potter fan. A rather hardcore one, back in the day. The Harry fans at the big meetup of 2007 (last book) ditched me for not being cool enough. Shows what they know.
I don't know if anyone on goodreads followed the intense Harry Potter fanbase core in the good old days. I wasn't on goodreads until after the last book came out. Goblet of Fire was the last Harry Potter book before all of the bitching naysayers. It was never as much fun after that, either to discuss theories or pick apart More...

Now THAT'S a book! The groove that J.K. Rowling starts to find in HP 3 is fully realized in 4. Partly it's that the kids (and therefore the readers) are getting older so she can delve into more adult, complex themes and situations, and partly it's that I think she's really finding her voice. We finally got our very own HP's, I am happy to report, and it's so funny to look at them all side by side b/c of the HUGE leap in size between 3 and 4. Then they get a little tricky b/c while 4 and 5 look t More...

So I reread this book once again and decided that I still love it.
I adore this book. It's probably one of my favourite in the series.
It's funny in parts, full of action and when it gets to the climax.
The climax of the book is enough to blow folks' head off.
Yes, it's a long heavy book, but I don't care. I like that about it.
More later.
Read this again last month 8/2011

God, I loved this book. But there were some cons which couldn't be ignored.
First of all, the movie sucked badly. No wonder I never understood the movie even though I watched it many times.
As I tried to watch the movie while reading this book, my face expressions were seriously like, "What the eff?"
The movie didn't show The Quidditch world cup for instance! It was like, one of the most awaited and amazing part of the book. And so many things were really confusing and could be only understood by More...

I'm not sure if I should review this right now or not. I'm nearly done with Order of the Phoenix, so my thoughts might possibly come out a bit blurred between both books, but I'm just going to to give it my best shot anyway, and I may or may not decide to post in the end. (Hint: If you're reading this, I decided to post.)

So after suffering through the first three books of this series, I vowed never to carry on and finish it. That is, until I was at a party and two of my friends gave the Harry Potter saga such a ringing endorsement that I was convinced I was missing out. I picked up the fourth book and was determined to read it, to reconsider my stance on the series.
I quickly got through 200 pages, but it was then that I came to the same crisis I always do when reading a Harry Potter book: Do I really want to go More...

This book, in my opinion, is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best one of the first four books. I loved how the author established the environment in the first book, and I absolutely enjoyed how she established the characters of the story in the second and third books.
But this one is just different, this one showed me the brilliance of Rowling. I absolutely loved how she utilized everything she established previously, and at the same time introduced many new characters, and in the process, crea More...

What stands out in book 4:
* Hermione's disgust at the reception for the veela (Bulgarian National Team Mascots) at the Quidditch World Cup. Rowling's fourth book addresses issues about growing up--the dynamic between the boys and girls at Hogwarts starts to change. Nowhere is this more plain than the hilarious scene in which magical cheerleaders nearly convince Harry and Ron to jump from the stands to impress them.
* Viktor Krum's crush on Hermione--and Ron's objection to it.

This is Harry's 4th year at Hogwarts, but he doesn't know what it is in store for him. There is an International competition against the three wizard schools, three champions will be chosen from each school to do three tasks and to represent themselves and their school. Many have died in the past, but this time the Ministry of Magic has made sure that no one will die, that is kinda hard of the dark lord has returned to power.. Someone had entered Harry's name so he became the 4th champion of the More...

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is soo epic, mind-blowing, and just so awesome in every way possible! It's true like everyone said, "The series keeps getting and better and better as the series progresses." There are lot of magic, spell-casting, humor, and lots of unexpected plot twists that I've never anticipated, but there it was! The MC (Harry) that we all grow to love has grown a bit more mature than in the last books. He's more smarter, cunning, and is now capable of making wise decisio More...

Finished a re-listening to this audio book. I think this was the last of Rowling's books that was truly well-edited (with the exception of the gaffe at the end during the Priori Incantatem scene); after this book her ego got out of control, unfortunately, and she produced far more chaff that wasn't edited out. GoF is both well-plotted and well-told and is the real turning point of the series.

This is one I've only read once, when it first came out, and I've only seen the movie once too, so there was lots of "new" details for me on this re-read. This isn't the copy I originally bought back in 2000 (it was first released in paperback; book 5 was the first hardcover edition on release); I had to put that one in the recycling bin and buy a new copy (and I was shocked at how expensive it was: at $32, it's much more than the other children's/YA hardcovers) bec More...

I am beginning to regret reviewing these all in a row, as I feel I need repeat myself. Then again, the theme and structure of the books is repetitious, so perhaps there is little else I can add.
By this point, Rowling has caught her stride, and begun that inescapable page-climb for which she became--especially in the young-adult genre--especially infamous. This book is, more than anything, an expansion of the world and of events. She puts off Quidditch at the school--perhaps out of a fear that Ha More...

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows – Part 2
releases on July 15’ 2011. And with it, ends one of the grandest obsessions of our times.
No, I’m not mocking it. Far from it. I am an unabashed member of the Potter Brigade. I have read the entire series more times than I can count. I have caught the movies when they hit the theatres (and cribbed about the disparities in plot). I have scoured through exquisite FanArt and imaginative FanFiction. There are a few things I will always be sure of: 1) tea is excellent, 2) the sky is as blue as the grass is green, and 3) Harry Potter will always be the books I can reread without ever getting tired or bored by the story. J.K. Rowling gets me all round when it comes to emotions, and I do not think I have ever experienced a books series that has ever done this to me. Let me explain.

Outstanding series. Though the movies followed the story line very closely there is just so much more in the book that has filled in a few gaps for me as well as showing me some tangents that were just left out of the movie. Even if you've seen the movies these books are definitely worth a read! So set down that channel remote, put on some good music and crack a book open or launch your Kindle/Nook/Pdf application. You'll be glad you took the time to read the written word.

This one answered a large percentage of the questions I bombarded The O'Malley with after watching HP7. It's been satisfying.
Here's some general stuff (that is, not specific to this installment):
Someone mentioned that Hagrid's indiscretion is recklessly dangerous or something. . . it kind of is, but I don't think he's as dangerous as Dumbledore. Here's why:
Big D* has about a bajillion opportunities to tell Harry everything he needs to know, and withholding information results in a whole lot more More...

This was a great book, as many already know. I just finished reading it for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. The book had a number of good messages to portray. Throughout the book Harry is struggling against his fame (both for has historic past as well as his historic present). Through the help of loyal friends - and not a little bit of luck - Harry is able to overcome the adversity facing him during his fourth year at Hogwarts. Rowling puts her own magical twist on the classic messages More...

AWESOME! Just fudging awesome. Now this is what you call a book! (same with my other favorites). Hehe.
I felt like I was completely carried inside the book, exactly in Harry's position (and in the realm of Hogwarts) forced with the life he never even asked for. That is life for Harry Potter; adventurous, difficult, troublesome and dangerous. However, somewhere in the deep and dark unseen spaces are the shadows of people who truly look out for him and his precious life.

I like this book as much as the previous ones. But I don't think I'd be giving this a perfect merit.
In my opinion, this book would have had been better if J.K. Rowling had excluded the preparation for the world cup. It had been so boring that there had been a point where I have thought of quitting the book.
The ending, however, had been intense and dramatic that it made me stay up and finish it until two o'clock in the morning.

Have you ever questioned something that seemed unnatural to you? If so you will love Harry’s very exciting Fourth year at Hogwarts. In the beginning he and the Weasly’s all go to the Quidditch World Cup.
“People from all over, loads of foreigners. Weirdos, you know? There’s a bloke walking around in a kilt and a poncho. But they all seem to know each other, like a big party.” Said, Mr. Roberts explaining to Arthur Weasly.

*sigh* The charm has worn off and the all too common hype monster has been wrong again! I found the first few books of the series charming but they were not reinventing the wheel by any means. By book four Rowling isn't even reinventing her OWN wheel. Book 4 was tedious and far too lengthy (where the hell was the editor?). I just cannot come to care for any of the characters, especially Mr. Special (aka HP), and shouldn't I care by book 4?

12/14/12: Okay, so this is my favorite book out of the series. I can't explain why I love it the way I do nor what makes it more special than the rest. This was the first book I'd ever read that had extended five-hundred pages. There's so so much in this book that JKR makes special, which makes it hard to forget. Winky, and the Quidditch World Cup. Ron's jealousy over Hermione going to the Ball with Krum, and the return of Dobby. Padfoot, and "Mad-Eye", and Dumbledore, and the wonderful, wonderf More...

Book Four in the Harry Potter series, is the middle book of the series and in many ways it is very unique from other previous offerings from JKR. With it's first chapter, it sets the tone for a darker feel by far than books 1 through 3. If Rowling ever decides to write an adult book, she could be suuuuuper scary if she wanted to. Chapter 1- The Riddle House still creeps me out, after multiple readings. It's the way Jo builds the suspense with the chapter. It's not like you can't guess where it's More...
