Dear Mom,

I might be a wee bit late for Cousin Missy’s wedding. It’s been a tough week. Turns out, my blind date from hell was literally from hell. Guy bit me. Next thing I know, I’m being chased all over the city by vampire hunters. And did I mention that I got fired, too?

Bright side-I met a man. Thierry de Bennicoeur. How great is that name? Anyway, he’s sexy, six-hundred...more

Amélie
After going to a rendezvous arranged by her best friend, a young woman woke up in a cemetery, the man trying to burying her. He pretends to be a vampire and that she now belongs to him. She of course hit this obviously crazy man with the pepper spray that every woman must permanently have with her and she run away, only to fail into the hands of other madman pretending to be vampire killers. They stick a stake into her aggressor’s heart and she only survive thanks to the intervention of a suicid...more

This book is a quick read, but it is not light hearted and simple as the title implies. It's about a women made into a vampire against her will, I know we've all read this before...but this book is really good and nothing is cut and dry. Sarah has not one but two love interests making quite the triangle and one has a wife!!! I like reading all the different takes on vampires that one author has compared to another. Like these vamps can go out in the sun, have no reflection and can't eat solid fo...more

Eh. Another disappointing read. I seem to be having bad luck lately.

The narrator was annoying (why does "funny" paranormal romance/urban fantasy always mean the main character is a complete idiot?) and the plot was dull. I figured most of the plot out way before Sarah did.

The love interest, Thierry, didn't do it for me. They fell for each other much too fast (pet peeve) and didn't even spend enough time together to know if they actually liked one another. Chemistry was lacking, but that might be...more

As soon as I started reading this book, I was instantly hooked by the main character, Sarah Dearly. Sarah is on a blind date with a guy who bites her, but then gets killed by vampire hunters right before her eyes. Sarah has no idea vampires exist and gets thrown for quite a loop learning that she's now a vampire, too. Trying to get away from the vampire hunters who just killed her date, she crosses paths with a man who is on the verge of killing himself, who turns out to be a 600 year old vampir...more

J'es...more

I saw several aspects which I thought could use improvement (understatement) , or were a severe detraction to any self-respecting vampire romance novel.

First, were the many idiosyncrasies in the series. Where, in any vampire novel, would one find a centuries old vampire who meekly let's himself get killed? In tons of books, of course. But these books normally make use of only one or two, to make the story more interesting. You don't get whole towns of such vampires volunteering to die. They are...more

As a completely irrelevant side note, my screwed-up brain kept reading Thierry's last name as "Biencoeur" (which means GoodHeart) instead of "Bennicoeur" (which means... nothing really).

My reading words that weren't actually in the book might be a side effect of all the times I started ramming my head on the desk, though. I would say the heroine was dumber than a post, but that would be insulting to posts everywhere, and I'm not so eager to be getting angry e-mails claiming slander against posts...more

This is one of those books with a plucky heroine of the underdog sort nabs the powerful, sophisticated, and drop dead gorgeous hero. I like these sorts of stories if the heroine is sufficiently plucky that I really root for her - but Sarah never struck me as being particularly extraordinary. She's a college dropout secretary of unexceptional looks who is a self-described bubblehead. But she doesn't have, say, the breezy, irreverant boldness of (Undead and... series) Betsy Taylor - a character wh...more

Sorry, I seem to be in the minority here. This was pretty tough to get through and I tried to give it a fair read without skimming over parts. This book is about Sarah Dearly, a twenty-something, executive assistant that lives in Toronto. She goes on a blind date and he turns her into a vampire. In this world the vampires still keep their secrecy. So we go through the whole vampire in denial bit. Her vampire love interest is completely unlikable. He is no Bones that's for sure. I don't know what...more

I seem to be addicted to vampire stories lately. This one is another light, funny read.

Sarah Dearly has absolutely no good luck. After a blind date she wakes up to find her date burying her in a cemetery, having just changed her into a vampire. The next day she goes into work and has a meeting with her boss who unfortunately gives herself a papercut. Of course Sarah just can't resist having a suck on her employer's finger, leading to her being sacked for sexual harassment! Some of the scenes in...more

I cannot overly state how amazing this book was. I read the entire series for two days. It was UNPUTDOWNABLE! . Once i finished the first book, i am itching for the second until before i knew it, i was up till 5 in the morning. THANK GOODNESS IT'S SUMMER or I'll be sleeping in my desk if this was a school day.

Ok, i should warn you that my opinion is been extremely a...more

Ok, it was probably more like 1.5 stars.

The two main characters and the relationship between them just didn't work for me. When I came here to review, I realized that I had pretty much forgotten the heroine other than that I found her vaguely dissatisfying. The hero is more memorable, if only because he felt oddly cold for a romance hero and has an unusual name. Yes, many heroes in romance novels start out cold, but they generally thaw out far more than Thierry ever did. The relationship didn't...more

I've read Rowen's Living in Eden series, but I'd never picked up any of the Immortality Bites books. However, when I received a copy of one of the later books in the series, I decided to give it a shot.

Overall, I was rather lukewarm on Bitten & Smitten. I didn't feel it brought anything new to the table and I prefer Molly Harper's Jane Jameson books (incidentally, the first book in Harper's series was published in 2009, three years after Rowen's Bitten and Smitten) or Chloe O'Neill's Chicag...more

The idea of this book is what sparked my interest--A girl, on a blind date, being turned into a vamp against her will. For some reason, the plot caught my eye. But, I read the book because I've read Michelle Rowen's Demon Princess series for YA's and I loved it.
This book wasn't much different! It was exciting and new, and I really enjoyed it! I finished it in about five hours (reading non-stop), and I thought that each page flowed smoothly and was written nicely.

Hilarious & witty with a few dark moments thrown into the mix. Bitten & Smitten tells the story of Sarah Dearly, a new-born vampire who tries to adjust to her new life as a vampire while trying to avoid getting slain by vampire hunters in the process.
Sarah was a good main character. Never got bored of listening to her & she's down-right funny!
She may be a stuck-up brat at times, but unlike other female main characters in vampire literature, she's smart & never lets a man overpow...more

Bitten & Smitten is a cute vampire paranormal romance. Sarah, the heroine is a shopaholic who gets converted to a vampire while on a blind date. Her blind date gets murdered in front of her and she runs for her life right into the arms of Thierry, a vampire with a death wish.

Thierry begrudgingly saves Sarah's life and agrees to help her adjust to vampirism but Sarah's reticence in giving up her old life creates waves in his carefully constructed world. For one, she attracts every vampire hun...more

I really liked this start to the series! It's a bit more PG13 rated than what I'm used to, but still a fun, enjoyable read. Sort of reminds me of the Lily Bard series, combined with a PG13 version of Sookie Stackhouse.

Though at times I felt as though I was reading about a teenager, and not a grown woman, Sarah's adventures from human to new vampire were entertaining and humorous. I love her wit and sense of humor, especially her demeanor towards Thierry, who everyone else seems too afraid to sp...more

I randomly picked up this book while browsing for a different book, something about the cover caught my eye and it looked like a quick read so i grabbed it. I read the book in 2 sittings! I loved this book. I was skeptical at first since romance novels aren't really my style but this book packed a punch. It wasn't filled with the gushy, voyeuristic, and sometimes downright weird "romance" scenes but instead filled with snarky, sarcastic, and hilarious banter and situations.. I loved the heroine,...more

"Bitten & Smitten" is my first "challenge read" from another reader, at Down and Dirty Lusty and Flirty Group on Goodreads. The objective is to have someone else pick a book for you to read from their books they've read, but to make sure it's not already in your To-Be-Read list and to make sure you haven't read it before also.

Thanks again to the wonderful, Gems, for choosing this book for me to read. I would've never known about this book until you chose it for me...and I'm so glad you did....more

I won't rate this book, because I think that any rating I gave it would be either false or unfair. A high rating would be false because I didn't like this book very much. A low rating would be unfair because I don't actually think that this is a bad book, just one that didn't appeal to me.

I've come to the conclusion that I don't really like the light/humorous subgenre of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. It's just not for me. I prefer my UF and PNR more dramatic and angsty. I found Sarah irr...more

I purchased this book from a library book sale with several other random things. I had no idea this was part of a series, but thought the author sounded weirdly familiar.

The reason was that a month before, while at a used bookstore, I had picked up #4 in this series just thinking it looked interesting. This book is #1. When it came time to read them, it still hadn't occurred to me that I might have another book by this author in the ginormous piles that sit behind my chair. I just happened to pi...more

I put off reading this one for a while, but once I started reading it, couldn't put it down! Sarah Dearly goes on a blind date and her life is turned upside-down when he turns her into a vampire and is killed soon thereafter by vampire hunters. Luckily, she finds Thierry de Bennicoeur, a centuries old vampire who wants to end his existance. In exchange for helping her navigate her new life, Sarah agrees to help him to that end. Problem is, she ends up falling for him. What's a girl to do when th...more

Thinking about writing this review I was thinking I’d say, “Although I like these books, I probably won’t read the rest in the series.” But thinking back over it reminded me how much of a fun read it was. It was fun. It didn’t evoke real emotion other than joviality. There was a surprise twist at the end that I didn’t expect in the least. Normally, I like something that is a little more serious in tone, but this was a nice change up. Expect more of the series to come later. If you’re looking for...more

This is going to be a short review as I honestly don't know what to say.

I have to say I quite enjoyed this book but it could have been better.

The humor was great and I kept getting a Buffy vibe from it which I loved but the story line itself was lacking something. I'm not sure what exactly was lacking but one part was the romance... I was expecting form the synopsis of the book that there would be more of a love story between Sarah and Thierry thant it led me to believe.

I didn't understand cer...more

There's a whole lotta vampire/romance out there now, but I think after Lynsay Sands' Argeneau series, this may be my new favorite series. It put me a little in mind of MaryJanice Davidson's Queen Betsy from her Undead series, so it's a little more chick lity than Sands' books.

Sarah's best friend sets her up on the blind date from hell, who turns out to be a vampire and wants her to be one also. After turning her, against her will, he is promptly killed, and Sarah finds herself running for her l...more

“You bit me on the neck? What kind of a sorry-ass vampire wannabe are you, anyhow?”
I grabbed for my dirt-covered purse that lay by my feet. I kept a can of pepper spray in it for protection, or at least I used to. Did I still have it? Did those things have an expiration date? Didn’t matter. If I had to, I’d just use it to bash him over the head.
I’m not a wannabe.” He actually had the audacity to look insulted. “I am a vampire.”
Psycho, I thought. Total psycho.”

“Why were you running?” Gordon looked confused. “I wasn’t going to hurt you.”

Bite me,” I told him. He was so going to get charged with assault. I might even have to put a restraining order on his sorry ass. “Oh, wait a minute, you already did bite me, didn’t you… you psycho!”

He rolled his eyes. “You’re really going to have to get over that if this relationship is going to have half a chance.”
