Recommends it for:
parents reading with their children
This is a simple and interesting book that describes a little about President's Day and focuses on four of the more popular Presidents in our country's history, specifically the ones on Mount Rushmore: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt.
The story describes a class assembly program, where each child represents a President or discusses some of their accomplishments. The narrative is short and the illustrations are colorful and depict a diverse elementary sch...more

Anne Rockwell and Lizzy Rockwell have created a charming picture book series of important days. In this version, a class puts on a play about the presidents. The young narrator gets to be George Washington because they have the same birthday, an African American boy gets to be Abraham Lincoln because he's the tallest, and a girl gets to play a horse-riding Teddy Roosevelt.

I love this book for many reasons. One, information about our presidents is introduced through the voice of a child! Therefore, the word choice is more accommodating for a young reader. Two, since the book is written about students putting on a play about Presidents' Day, your own students can produce their own informational play and step into a presidents life for a brief moment. I have seen in multiple times in my placement, students love role-play. What better way to meet their needs than to...more
This is definitely a book that belongs in the social studies area in your classroom. When it comes time to learn about our founding fathers this is the perfect book. It gives descriptions of each of the four presidents and what they contributed. It also explains what President's Day is. This is a very informative book for children.
For what it is, it was okay. But, let's just talk about content and titles for a minute... It's called "Presidents' Day". When we celebrate that holiday, we honor Lincoln and Washington. And yet, this book talks only briefly about those 2, and adds (unnecessarily) Teddy Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson by using Mount Rushmore as a template for the kids' project. I would have much preferred a book that focused more on the 2 presidents that the title indicated.
Mrs. Madoff's class explains America's Presidents' Day and then celebrates it by hosting a play in which they highlight some of the greatest American presidents and their contributions to the country.
Lead in to one of our required holidays to cover in the curriculum. Students might even decide to create their own play after reading this book which would be a great teachable moment.
This is a clever way to present information about four of the more well-known presidents kids learn about. The play gives various kids a chance to speak, with historical and personal facts about each individual. The illustrations show a lot of the activity, complementing the text well. The kids themselves are as precious as you'd expect young performers to be.

LOVED! Put historical people into characters of different color and would be soooooo good to show anyone that they can make it in this world.

Fun story and good way to bring up discussion about the holiday.
I really enjoyed this book, as did my kindergartner and my 3rd grader who was listening in. The book gave great information about 4 important U.S. presidents in a fun, creative way. We all learned about history, elections, and more! Definitely a must read for President's Day!
