This is the Left Behind book that made me the maddest. However it did not dissuade me from continuing the series. You'd think with a book called Apollyon: The Destroyer Is Unleashed there would at the very least be a character names Apollyon in the book. Sadly, no. There is not even a "destoyer." The name Apollyon is mentioned twice but no demon lord arises as I mistakenly believed. There are however these ridiculous demon hybrid locusts. They're 3 to 4 inches long with the 12 pa More...

Book #5 of this series has Raymond sneaking out of Israel to save his life and Buck, Chloe, and Tsion going to Israel to hold a huge conference for the witnesses. I never figured out why and that theme held true through most of this book. So much of what happened in this book left me thinking why would they do that or how could they do that? The main characters are constantly putting themselves in situations that noone should survive, yet they do things that if the world conditions really wer More...

As one who always reads other reviews before reading and reviewing a book, I feel like I should respond to what some of the other reviewers have to say. First of all, some complain that the writing style is too sophomoric. Well, every writer has his voice, and how interesting would the world be if everyone wrote or spoke exactly the same way? Yes, the writing style is simple, but that just makes the book(s) easier too read. Secondly, as to the complaints that the books are sexist, that's just si More...

Apollyon is the fifth book in the Left Behind Series and one of my favorites. This book begins with the ministry of the two witnesses, Eli and Moishe, who prophecy from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. These men are described in Revelation 11:

“And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth. They are the two olive trees and the two lampstands, and they stand before the Lord of the earth. If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from t More...

Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins in their book “Apollyon” Book Five in the Left Behind series published by Tyndale House Publishers takes us to the events of Chapter 9, verses 1-12 in Revelation, the last book of The Bible.

In the Bible book of Revelation an Angel is dispatched to the bottomless pit with a key. Once the pit is opened out pour locusts upon the Earth unlike any ever seen before. And their sole purpose is to torment for five months "only those men which have not the More...

Carpathia confronts the two witnesses and was not satisfied with the outcome. Hattie feels unworthy of God's grace for her part in Carpathia's rise to power. The tribulation force plans on staying one step ahead of the danger from global community officials but is that enough? As subzero temperatures engulf the earth and frightening insects terrorize the inhabitants will this bring the people closer to God?
Riveting, unpredictable with lots of twists and turns this novel, as the others bef More...

Book five continues the twist and turn towards something that feels more like a Bible tract that needs to be handed out door-to-door. Moving away from the fantastic plot and character development of the first three books, LaHaye and Jenkins really begin a downward trend of not following upon previous successes for the series. There are several new characters that get added to the mix - some believers, some not. No background is explored on these new characters - so it is as if they are just drop More...

I enjoyed the story as fiction. I laughed, cried, fumed, and shouted--all positive things--but I want to temper that strongly by saying that I wouldn't suggest it as theological or eschatological material, as some have. I'm not really concerned with the order and how's of end-time events and believe we waste too much time trying to figure it out. As Jesus said: "No one knows the times or the seasons, but my heavenly Father." Do worry about it. Live and hope. You don't need to have it a More...

Usually I like to avoid 5 stars for fiction but I have a feeling with the remainder of this series there will be more 5s. It is that good! What do I want from a book anyway?
First, to learn something and with these the book of Revelation is being made more understandable. Of course it is even more helpful that we are currently reading Revelation in church and with our pastor's years of study, the prophecies are no longer confusing symbols to me.
And second, to be entertained of c More...

I read this back in 1999, so my memory is pretty fuzzy. I'm giving this a 3-star rating because I remember that I made it through the entire series.

This book is a work of fiction. It's not a research book, nor is it 100% accurate according to the Bible. But I remember the overall story being pretty entertaining for an end-times-after-the-Christians-have-been-raptured sort of universe. Several people have mentioned that the writing style itself is fairly pedestrian. I didn't notice at 1 More...

5th book in the Left Behind Series. The Tribulation Force journeys to the Middle East to attend a conference of the 144,000 newly converted Jews to Christianity. Carpathia makes a surprise appearance, and Tsion and Chloe must run for their lives. The group finds safety in the home of Chaim Rosenzweig, and plan to escape back to the States secretly before the GC come after them. One member of the Force dies in the process, and another is left behind and must wait several months before making More...

Apollyon delivers on the promise of the preceding books in the series. It keeps moving with very few slow sections and even those are interesting.

Like the previous books, it closes a few plot lines, opens others, and leaves many hanging to be picked up by the next book in the series.

The inspiration to follow Jesus is still there and constantly renewed. The message that "God is in control" is the major force that holds the entire series together and is strong in

I was just curious about this series that goes along with Biblical revelations in the New Testament. It's not quite what I believe in my church, but it has been very interesting reading. I don't love the books that much, but I am curious about what happens, so I keep reading. Interesting how events seem to be going along somewhat with what is happening in the world today. I've been listening to them on audiobooks.

Okay, so another reason to dislike these books is the good math. Ready? Alright. One of the main characters is pregnant, right? And has been for lets give them the benefit of the doubt three months at the beginning of the book. Okay. Now: There is a five-month plague of demon locusts (just take it at face value) and anyone stung by them will be writhing in pain for a) the rest of the five months that the plague exists, and b) for five whole months after that. When does the main character give bi More...

This book didn't really center on Apollyon, I don't think he was even in the book besides the demons chanting his name. I loved that Chloe had a baby, I though that the authors were going to let it die so they don't have to deal with a baby in the book...but I was wrong (thank goodness). More memebers are added to the Trib force as they huttle down to ward off the remaing judgments of Christ.

I admit I will complete this 11 book series because I can't seem not to. I think my biggest beef with this whole thing is the books themselves. Highly expensive books that are super quick reads. Part of this is due to the page layout and font size but I would have to believe that the other aspect is simpler writing style. Either way, they have me till the end. ;)

This book was a little bit more exciting and I found it sort of scarey too. At this point the main characters (the ones who haven't died) are deep into the Tribulation and the anti-christ has made it clear what he stands for. Plus there are some prophecy elements that are written about quite vividly and it made me nervous and jumpy. Well done.

Apollyon, the Destroyer, leads the plague of demon locusts as they torture the unsaved for the 5th trumpet judgement of Revelations. Meanwhile, despite threats from the Antichrist the 144,000 chosen ones meet in Jerusalem for the Meeting of the Witnesses to get ready to preach to the world in an attempt to win as many souls as they can.

This is the last book I read in this series. It just isn't told that well. I know it's an enjoyed, even loved set of books, but it's just not that great.

I'll state again, I have no problem with the theology of the series (though I do disagree with it in some areas). It's just not that well written.

Sorry.

The book is good and keeps with the spirit of the series. There is an ebb and flow to the action, but the end is especially exciting with a number of different activities occurring at once. I found myself wishing the action from the end of the book was present throughout.
Attachment to the characters has been successfully achieved by this point so the loss of a major character in every book is becoming more and more difficult. The authors successfully achieved emotion in this series. At More...

My reviews for this series will all be identical - if you're Christan - read them! If you're not - the READ THEM! This made me see the truth I thought I'd known. This going to happen and soon. Not necessarily like this but Christ is coming!

I love this series... whether I believe in the rapture or not, doesn't matter - it's just a great read and they've done a great job on fictionalising their interpretation of the book of Revelations. You're right there with the characters.

Good story, though I didn't care for it as well as the others. Another member of the Tribulation Force is killed while another spends a lot of time separated from the others. The judgments are getting worse and more frightening.

After getting wrapped up in the characters and feeling the need to find out what happens to them was the only reason I continued to read all the books in the series. The authors definately knew how to draw someone in and keep it just entertaining enough for them not to put it down and never think of it again - barely. I read the series for it's fiction appeal, not the biblical meanings, so was a bit disappointed in the writings. If the authors had cut some of the scripture and backstory each More...

Believers must turn to the Internet for underground communications. The Tribulation Force is in constant danger as enemies of the Global Community and must go into hiding. Nevertheless, life goes on with new birth. This book is just as riveting as the first four in the series. Lots of food for thought even though it's fiction.

It just keeps getting better and better. The story line thickens and twists in ways that make you pay attention like you never have before. I wonder what's next for the Tribulation Force?
