They need to hire me to proof for them. I’ve come across more than a few books with an unacceptable amount of typos here lately. Is no one reading this stuff before it goes to press?

And I’m not that much of an anal freak, but 20 typos before page 78 is too many.

The reason for my annoyance is because Vince Flynn is a great writer, and I believe I read he is dyslexic, thus he does not have a dedicated team supporting him. That’s a shame because his Mitch Rapp novels tap into the raw emotion of rea More...

Some people are addicted to drugs. I am happily addicted to Vince Flynn's books and the exploits of his truly American hero, Mitch Rapp. My wife and daughter share my addiction, but they have not had their fix yet because I got to read Flynn's newest book first. Which is only fair since I bought it. My only complaint is that now I will have to wait another year for the next book. Withdrawal can be tough.

Oh, about the book? C'mon, it's Vince Flynn and Mitch Rapp. This one is about how Mitch got h More...

I purchased this paperback from Amazon for 0.97 cents. I was introduced to Vince Flynn thru a co-worker who has read all 12 of the Mitch Rapp (main character) series. I read the 1st one called "Transfer of Power" and really enjoyed it. "American Assassin" is #11 of the series but is actually the prequel to all the other Mitch Rapp novels. Flynn has been compared to Tom Clancy without the in depth, technical jargon. I've never read any of Clancy's books but have seen most of the movies based on More...

PROTAGONIST: Mitch Rapp, CIA super agent
SETTING: US, Istanbul, Beirut
SERIES: #11 of 11
RATING: 4.25

It’s exceptionally difficult to find individuals who have the skills to directly fight terrorism. Thomas Stansfield, CIA Operations Director, is acutely aware that Islamic terrorism is on the rise, and that the talents needed to deal with this threat require a different kind of person than those recruited in the past. He’s set up a special team consisting of his protégée, Irene Kennedy, and a former More...

In a world where every second person is a self-proclaimed writer, present company included, it's easy to forget why the brand-name authors are still keeping the mainstream publishing model alive. Because they are good. Let me rephrase that, they are damn good. And Vince Flynn is a case at point. Admittedly, Mr. Flynn's flavor of military thrillers is a genre I have opted to watch at the movies when little brain activity on my part is required. I prefer to read mysteries, intelligent espionage, a More...

This is my first political thriller by Vince Flynn. I wanted to try them because Luan enjoys them a lot--they make good listening while cleaning the house, she says. I started with this one because it is the first in the series chronologically although not the first one he wrote. I found that I really enjoyed the first part of the story, about how they had recruited Rapp and were running him through a kind of boot camp to make covert-spies. I was sorry it didn't last longer. Basically this novel More...

While this book may appear to be your run-of-the-mill thriller at first glance, Flynn thoroughly disabuses you of that notion within just a few chapters. The author's obvious grasp on international relations and 20th century history make for a compelling read as does his tendency to move the plot forward through a mix of point-of-views and character studies. Oftentimes the major events of the novel seem so plausible that you wonder if Flynn might have some inside knowledge. Another extremely sal More...

Look, here's something about us diehard action-thriller fanboys - we will forgive an author's imprudence with a few weak spots in the plot now and then as long as we get our action-gasm in totality but what we don't do is tolerate preachy one-sided-win story. Two ingredients which this author is dishing out in heaps in this book.

I am not even going to talk about the piss poor editing, its the gross injustice that has been meted out to Mitch Rapp that I am very disappointed with. It took Mr. Fly More...

As the author of a different kind of thriller, Dark Halo, perhaps it may seem strange for me to write this review. I guess I'm just a big fan of thrillers, especially those that involve powerhouse characters like Mitch Rapp.

This is one of the few books from Vince Flynn that I've read, and admittedly, I might be biased because I'm not a big fan of his writing style. With that said, I DID really enjoy this story and think this book was better written than others I've skimmed on the bookshelves. I More...

This one comes reccomended to me by my teenage son. He read his first Vince Flynn book on a plane ride home about a year ago.

He was so taken with it that he has now acquired almost the entire catalog of Flynn books.

Bewing a Jack Higgins and Danial Silva fan i thought i would give it a try.

It turned out to be ok in my opinion. Nothing to get overly excited about, I still think Silva is better. I would give this a 3.5 but of course we cant do that with Goodreads.

This is also the first book chronol More...

This is another spy thriller book, much the same as David Baldacci. We have our very talented hero, Mitch Rapp, who is better than the average solider, but the only thing is, he never has been in the military. This book is a new one by Flynn, but it is a prequel to many of his other books. It explains how Rapp became the agent/person/assassin he is. ** stop for spoilers*** In this book Mitch is recruited to attend a special boot camp for killers. He and one other person make it through the camp More...

Good addition to the series; much better than previous two books in the series. More plot and action than ideology and preaching about what government actions should be. Added something to what we already know about Mitch Rapp, but fleshed in a bit more of the background. Thought initially this would have fit better as the first book in the series, but after reading another review here thought better of it; this book is where it needs to be in the series.
But the publisher should be giving Flynn More...

I've read 10 of Vince Flynn's "Mitch Rapp" series, and I love them. This prequel was one of the best. You would want to read the whole series in order, but it would be okay to start here. It is not quality literature, of course, and I have a few complaints about all of his books that I've noticed over time:

Vince Flynn always starts out with story lines and some character development that just end off into space. In the last quarter of all of his books, you can literally see Vince Flynn pulling a More...

American Assassin by Vince Flynn (pp 435)

The 11th installment of the Mitch Rapp, CIA political thriller is the origin story. Flynn finally puts more background on how the death of his high school and college sweetheart on the Pan Am Lockerbie flight that was bombed in a terrorist incident leads him to channel all his efforts into seeking vengeance against the bad guys.

Half of the book is his recruitment into the CIA and half of the book is his first CIA mission doing a hostage rescue in Beirut. More...

Although I don't think many people actually follow what I say, I have to retract the criticism I made of Flynn's last few books. Actually, I'm not going to retract them, because they were true--Flynn was letting his ideology get in the way of the storytelling. Rather, I will say that he's returned to the stuff that made his earlier work great--compelling characters, amazing story lines, and a breathtaking adventure that leaves you sorry when the book ends.

Flynn takes his hero, Mitch Rapp, back t More...

This was exceptional with one disclaimer... it was obviously rushed to publishing with little editing. While waiting for my copy to arrive I read that other fans had noticed more than the occasional typos in the text and were bothered by them. I wondered if perhaps they were being a little over the top. Unfortunately, I found myself equally bothered. It is understandable that sometimes a "i" will be replaced with an "l" (as in the word "cabbie" being written as "cabble" in the last portion of th More...

In a review last fall for "Pursuit of Honor," I described Vince Flynn's CIA counter-terrorism operative Mitch Rapp as extreme beyond what would result if Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh had a love child who was rasied by rabid wolves and later adopted by Dick Cheney. Wouldn't you know, Flynn's publishers took me up on that challenge and have a dust jacket, blurb from Glenn Beck calling this latest Mitch Rapp venture "captivating." If Ahbu Ghraib and Guantanamo are your idea of captivating, then Gl More...

My daughter works in the marketing department at Simon & Shuster and had a change to meet the author in the office. Got me a signed copy of this book, pretty cool as I am a pretty big fan. This the story behind Mitch Rapp, the key character in most of Flynn's books. From that standpoint it was pretty interesting, but if you have read any of the other books, Mitch's back-story is well known. The story really revolves around his recruitment and first operations, in Europe and the Middle East. More...

Decent, fast-paced spy thriller that is two books in one, in a way. This book is actually a prequel to the series of "Mitch Rapp" novels from Flynn; I chose to start with here rather than the actual first book in the series to see if I'd take to the Rapp character. I did, but at the same time, I'd still say he's a bit muted in this story for what's supposed to be his "introduction" of sorts. It's probably just that most people would start with Flynn's first Rapp book, and so, already have a fami More...

Spoiler alert

"American Assassin" by Vince Flynn is thrilling and chilling book about Mitch Rapp's journey from life as a college star athlete to a killing, CIA agent. The book has several plots narrated from the different points of view of the characters which all tie together in the end. Irene Kennedy and Stan Hurley are in charge of training a new set of superagents for the CIA in anticipation of the upcoming war against Islamic terrorism. They recruit Mitch Rapp who goes through six months of More...

This book is pretty much porn for conservatives. I generally don't go for espionage/spy/special forces sorts of stories, but having read Mr. Flynn's first book Term Limits last summer (and loving it utterly) I figured I'd give this one a whirl. Although it's listed as number 11 in the Mitch Rapp series, it's really a prequel, so I thought I'd begin here.

American Assassin is a fun, fast-paced, exciting, plot driven story about terrorism in the Middle East, and the United States responding with e More...

This is good tough American male stuff. I enjoyed as much as some of you women readers enjoy a romance novel with handsome vampires and whatnot. It made me almost laugh to read it, like going back in time to the joy of reading my first three or four Ludlum novels.

This is the 11th book in a series about a CIA assassin named Mitch Rapp. It is the prequel to the other already told stories and I was told I may as well read it first. It's not quite as sophisticated as Jack Bauer and "24", but it has More...

I was curious about the Vince Flynn series featuring Mitch Rapp since the books do well on the NY Times Bestseller list and I like thrillers. I was less than thrilled to see endorsements by folks of the Glenn Beck ilk. Nevertheless, I read this book, and likened it to a "less well-written-than-the-Bourne-series" book. In other words, I prefer the writing of Robert Ludlum. This is a spy versus spy story, with the requisite close calls, seemingly impossible dilemmas, and shoot-outs. A bit too much More...

I finally worked my way back to the beginning of the Mitch Rapp books - starting at Pursuit of Honor and reading backward towards Transfer of Power. I do not necessarily recommend reading this way unless you are able to keep your characters pretty straight.

When I heard that there was a new Mitch Rapp book available, I was pretty anxious until I found out that this book (American Assassin) was a prequel. I guess going back one more book in time won't hurt - especially since this one tells the st More...

This was his second book I have read, the first of the Mitch Rapp series in chronological order (not publishing order). This is the prequel to all his earlier Rapp books and I chose to go with the chronological order as it seemed more sense.

This is a cross between the smooth writing or Ken Follett but the plot/storyline of Tom Clancy but without the very technical detail.

His characters are excellently described. There were several nationalities, religions and foreign names and I did manage to wo More...

I am putting it out there in the first sentence; I think this is the best novel I have read this year. Yes, I am a big Mitch Rapp fan; I think anyone that has followed this blog knows I love the character as much as I enjoy some of the big names out there today. Vince Flynn just hits a grand slam as he uses American Assassin, a prequel, to explain for us in tremendous detail, what makes Mitch Rapp so Mitch Rapp. I loved every word of it!

I like Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp Character. You get action but the character is more fully imagined than some. Of course it took a few books to fill him out and it seems that he may be somehow distantly related to the Cartwright family of the Ponderosa. (view spoiler)[It seems that women he loves may have a shorter than usual life expectancy. (hide spoiler)]

Anyway, here we drop back and get a prequel (not a big fan of prequels in general, but this one works and I like it). We've seen Rapp's life in the trenches so to speak now More...
