"Summer in the City of Sails" is a very hot read by Shelley Munro. It includes Munro's sharp humor and deft hand with sex scenes. But this one also includes a heroine who just grated on my nerves...thus the lower rating.

Summer is twenty-two and excited to be spending the next six months in the big city and away from her overprotective family; especially her special forces Aussy-style brothers. She has big plans: new style of dress, dating, sex, sex, and more sex. Then she overhears her uncle ask

Summer is sick of dealing with her overprotective family. She's managed to talk her way into a summer job in Auckland, the City of Sails, where she's actually got some freedom away from their watchful least until her uncle requests his friend and neighbor Nikolai to keep an eye on her. At twenty-two she's much too old to need a baby-sitter, but then strange things start happening--a break-in at her uncle's house where she's staying by herself, threatening phone calls, a murder in town. ...more

Summer Williams has come to the big city in the search of adventure, away from her well-intentioned but overly protective family. Nikolai Tarei is a Special Air Services Soldier who has been roped in to babysit Summer. Sparks starts flying between the two from the very beginning. Although the attraction is instantaneous, Nikolai keeps his distance, until Summer bent on having fun and finding romance gets involved with a crime boss.

A sassy heroine whose not afraid of anything and a masculine hero
OK read - the heroine's continual lurching into trouble because of her naivete and urge for 'adventure' grew wearing after while. [That might be just me - since I'm several decades older than the heroine.:] Occasional snarky dialog was fun but the plot seemed overburdened with coincidences and the bad guys seemed to have done their character research by studying The Sopranos. Nicely hunky alpha hero with issues.
The blue-haired, sometimes TSTL heroine redeemed herself in the end by kicking/stomping/punching down the villain. The heroine, a virgin at 22, sometimes seemed too young and flighty for our "bad ass SAS man" hero. Had a few doubting moments mid-way through, but all in all a fun, sensual read with likeable characters. This was my first book by Shelley Munro and I will definitely read more by this author.

Fun and sexy! The heroine was a bit immature at times, but she was 22, so that was appropriate. I'll look for more from Ms. Munro.

Shelley lives in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband and a rambunctious puppy.

Typical New Zealanders, Shelley and her husband left home for their big OE soon after they married (translation of New Zealand speak - big overseas experience). A year long adventure lengthened to six years of roaming the world. Enduring memories include being almost sat on by a mountain gorilla in Rwanda, lazing on
