3 ½ stars – Romantic Suspense

I was a bit underwhelmed with this one. I liked the lush, tropical Caribbean setting and treasure hunting and loved sexy, sweet, flirtatious, happy-go-lucky hero Zane, but heroine Teal made me wanna smack her upside her self-pitying, bitter head. It seemed to take a while for the action and romance to pick up steam, but I found it much more enjoyable once it finally did. So overall it's a mildly entertaining, albeit unremarkable, romantic suspense read.

I liked the emotions of the hero and the heroine. Plotwise however it was all over the place. The first half was diving for treasure. Someone stealing treasure from under their noses. A couple of awkward redherrings. Solved it halfway through then suddenly there is a plane with a stolen microchip absolutely vital to national security that crashes right on top of the wreck they are salvaging. Coincidence anyone? Bunch more bad guys to beat. This should have been a totally different book. It seeme...more

This was a good intro to a must read author, because I know this one is definitely not the best one out there. I rarely give a one or two star rating, because there are so many crap books out there that deserve it, but I'm warned ahead of time, so I avoid them.

Reasons for my rating:

1~ The story itself had a great plot. It had high potential. I was caught in it for the first 3 chapters, but it needed more description of characters.

2~ It started out great, but it was ALL OVER the place. It was li...more

Ok, I was loving this book right up until the ludicrous Alphachip/terrorist plot came out of nowhere at the end. The first 3/4 of the book was just an awesome love story between an overconfident hottie and a woman who'd been through some serious emotional abuse. Just the kind of story I like. All of a sudden, Adair goes wait a minute, this is supposed to be romantic suspense, and things go wonky. Our hero and heroine were pretty much together by the time this plot comes around, so it didn't real...more

Love, adventure, and danger on the high seas...

Fans of sexy romance with some high caliber adventure and nail biting danger, hold onto your hats! Cherry Adair's first book in her exciting new Cutter Cay trilogy, sure packs a whollop!

Cutter Cay is a small island in the Caribbean owned by the three dark and dangerously sexy Cutter brothers (Logan, Nick, and Zane) . The three own a lucrative ship salvaging/treasure hunting business where they dive for treasures aboard shipwrecked vessels. Undertow...more

I absolutely loved the beginning, watching Zane and Teal's verbal sparring and getting to know more about them: the prickly, damaged Teal and charmingly obnoxious Zane. The backstory elements started getting a little repetitive towards the middle, but I was still enjoying watching them unlearn/relearn each other.

Then, when the angst was about to reach its peak and it looked like Zane and Teal were about to start talking about/working through some of their issues a whole new storyline was added,...more

Teal must help him dredge up a shipwrecked vessel containing an abundance of gold, silver, and emeralds—and she’ll claim part of the prize.

HE’S BLOWN OFF COURSE.

Zane needs a mechanic—not a lover—and Teal, who can also dive, is perfect for the job. So it suits him just fine that Teal...more

Book #54 of 2012

I enjoyed this book a lot more than the previous Cherry Adair book I read, Hush. There are some negative reviews about Teal, but I actually found her kind of refreshing. She seemed believable to me. Yes, she was frequently crabby and stand-offish/rude, but, well, I think those reactions are a believable defense against a guy you slept with who doesn't even remember you, who you really like. After being a loner most of your life. And a (mentally) abusive past relationship.

Loved the characters because they were super realistic. Both Teal and Zane had great qualities as well as flaws, but these weren't so bad that they seriously hampered the relationship. The chemistry between the two felt believable, with a handful of very tastefully done, slightly explicit sex scenes.

Build-up of the story was gradual, though not at all boring. I enjoyed the development of the characters' as well as Teal's relationships with others. Plot moved along at a nice pace, not too fast, n...more
Romancing the Book
Review by Shannon: What more could you want from a great contemporary book? Hot hero? Check. Tough as nails heroine who’s nothing but squishy inside? Check. Great romance? Check. A little suspense? Check. Beautiful scenic area that makes you want to hop a plane and visit the nearest white sand beach? You can’t get much better than the scenery in this book.

Teal Williams has been trying to put her life back together after her disastrous marriage. When she receives a call about her dad, Sam’s healt...more

Holy cow! Cherry Adair has just become my all time favorite female romantic suspense author. She is phenomenally talented and knows what her readers will want! I have never read a Cherry Adair novel, but had heard lots of great stuff about her, so I decided to give her books a try. WOW! I was SO pleased with what I read!

Undertow is fantastic. And, luckily, it's the first in a series called Cutter Cay, and I got to start it off right. Teal Williams and Zane Cutter. Wow. Now THERE are two characte...more

A solid 3 stars.

A few things kept this book from being a 4 star book.

First was sometimes the flow and sense of timeline would become confused due to info dumps. The lack of verbal communication between the MC until almost the end of the book was another annoyance. For a good portion of the book were are in Teal's head (he's a jerk,no wait that was my ex, he's a jerk, no wait...repeat) and she can get redundant at times.

The other thing was the two different plots. I liked trying to figure out who...more

This was my first time reading this author–her work is described not as romantic suspense, but as adventure romance books. After reading this book, I’d say that description is fairly accurate. There were elements of suspense, but definitely more adventure going on than anything else.

Zane “Ace” Cutter is everyone’s best friend. He’s fun to be around, he throws great parties, he’s easy on the eyes, and he doesn’t drink (thanks to an alcoholic father). He’s also an adventurer, constantly on the loo...more

Originally posted on A Buckeye Girl Reads I think I'm the only one who didn't love this book. In fact, it was a dnf for me. While I loved Zane, I had trouble connecting with Teal. While I loved her seeing come into her own, her constant whining over Zane not remembering their one night together when he was really drunk got old fast. I also had trouble that she didn't admit her feelings for him until he had her from guys who had kidnapped her and had to dodge bullets and sharks circling overhead...more

Zane’s about to go on the treasure hunt of his life and he needs a master mechanic to keep his ship in working order. Enter Teal. I’d like to say that there’s an instant attraction and sparks fly, but that’s not the case. This book is about a high seas adventure and the dance that Teal and Zane do as they find their way to each other. With lots of action, mystery, danger, camaraderie and romance, Cherry Adair brings us the first book of her Cutter Cay Trilogy. I had a fondness for Teal and as a...more

Zane and Teal are my current favorite couple. I absolutely loved this book. The interactions not only between the main characters but the secondary characters left me wanting more more more!

Zane is a playboy, though his reputation has been slightly embellished. He’s charming, good-looking and successful, the trifecta of perfectness. He thrives on the thrill of the hunt for shipwrecks and the treasure their sunken remains may contain. Along with his two brothers, Zane Cutter is known for his amaz...more

Well I have read this author in the past and found her books a bit high on the SMUT rating, but I was dropping stuff off for the Relay For Life rummage sale and decided to look through the books. I found a few that looked interesting and I read the back of this one before I noticed the author’s name. I enjoy romance/thrillers/suspense filled books. This one was not disappointing at all. The first kiss wasn’t even until page 100 or so. Very tame compared to some of the others she has written.

I'm not a reviewer and never claimed to be but let me just say I loved the story. This was a great 4 star book that was quickly downgraded to 3 after what is found on the dive after the storm, but then redeemed itself.

This story had me in the first chapter and I loved the ride. Lots of romance and suspence just the way I like it, however this almost lost me about 3/4 through after a major storm hits.

Zane great as our playboy captain who has a habit of quickly falling in and out of love feels h...more

Loved the premise in the fascinating world of diving for treasure. The atmosphere of the ocean, both beautiful and deadly gave the story a unique backdrop for the suspense and the romance. Unfortunately, the characters and the plot didn't live up to the fascinating world they inhabited.

It's been a very long time since I read a book of Cherry Adair. Well at first I was on a dry spell and didn't read at all and when I started reading again, it was more Vampires, Werewolves and all that kind of things. When I got back on the Romantic Suspense train she wasn't on my radar and I don't know really why, cos back then she was one of my favorite authors and Michael Wright was the first hero I had a massive crush on. But well I was finally in the mood again and totally wanted to read he...more

I REALLY liked this one.

The heroine is quirky (she prefers a good diesel engine to jewelry), has a unique voice, is smart and brave and skilled. And, to me, sounds totally believable.

The Hero is a lady killer but SOOO different from the usual lady killer types. He's one of those people who just like people, like women, loves life and is full of life. And has just never met a woman who warmed his heart. Again, totally believable.

The story is driven by character not just plot---the h and H are...more

What a FANTATIC BOOK, I loved it!!!! Thanks Auntee, I'd have missed this one if not for you.

This book grabbed me right from the start. Some reviews did not care for the heroine Teal, not true for me, I loved her. She had some issues but I understood all of them and thought Cherry did a wonderful job with her character. She was spunky, witty, smart and stubborn to boot.

Zane was totally YUMMY all the way around. I found myself constantly going to Cherry's web site to take a look at the video just...more

At last Cherry Adair has returned to what she does best which is contemporary romantic suspense, minus the paranormal elements. This was a refreshing change from her more recent paranormal releases. They just could not hold my interest. Although this book slowed down for me at one point I still enjoyed it immensley. At times I even saw a bit of myself in Teal, like when she wanted to go over to each boat and start basically getting everybody to give back what they stole.

A fun read and I am grea...more

I wanted to rate this book higher but I couldn't get past the heroine's (Teal) attitude. I got the background about why she was the way she was, but her attitude did almost a 180 and threw me out of the loop. I was thinking, 'what happened to her and what made her turn around?'. The thing that put Teal and Zane together initially, even before the story got started, was only lightly touched on and I felt it should have been delved into a bit more. That said, I loved the suspense and fast...more

Even though I did enjoy this book, it just wasn't as good as most of the others I've read by this author. There was just too much narrative description on the hero and heroine's occupations than interraction between the hero and heroine. I did like it enough however, to want to read the next one.

Favorite Quote: “I know I scare you.” His breath tickled her cheek as he whispered softly into her ear. “But, know what, Williams? You scare me a little bit, too.”

Zane Cutter is charming, witty, sexy, and great at his job treasure hunting shipwrecks in the Caribbean ocean – and he knows it. Maybe a little cocky, but also very friendly and warm to everyone he meets. So when he meets his new master marine mechanic, Teal Williams, he has a challenge. Teal is stubborn, in her oversized clothing with...more

I just want to say that the first book in the Cutter Cay series is the beginning of a great series. Zane and Teal end up a great couple. Teal comes to see her father when he asks her to come to the island. She finds out that he has cancer and isn't going to take any treatments. She's never been able to be close to her father and she thinks this is the last chance she'll have with him. Then she ends up taking the mechanic's job that her father would have had on Zane's salvage boat. The only probl...more
