Second in the Katherine "Kitty" Katt science fiction-romance revolving around Kitty, a former marketing manager, now in charge of a unit of Top Gun pilots.

My Take
Another funny story with some big issues; romantic issues with the past and the present and the parents on both sides who are against what Kitty and Jeff have.

Koch has really done a lovely job of creating this alien world with their same issues and she slowly dribbles out the truth about why earth's A-Cs are here. Sad that prejudice and...more

This second book in the series continues in much the same way as the first, which is to say it's cheesy and not particularly good in any measurable sense of the word. Yet, I'm still reading it. I'm not sure why. It must be fulfilling some need I wasn't aware I had, because I am going to move on to the third book in the series.

Lots of sci-fi action
Great sexy chemistry between Kitty and her sexy alien boyfriend Jeff
Not as info-dumpy as the first -- thank goodness!
Good progression of the earlier storyline

The Cons:

The Fabulous Kitty. This is my biggest problem with the book. It detracts me from being able to wholeheartedly enjoy this book. Kitty is wonderful, always. She figures out things all the time that no one else can. Really, Something "tickles in her brain' and she comes up with the perfect solution and explanation every. single. time. Meanwhile supposedly brilliant Aliens and agents are standing around loking like 'D'oh!'

She is the object of love and lust of every guy who meets her. In this one we meet her first boyfriend who has been so in love with Kitty (they broke up when they were sixteen) that he went off to become successful just to prove himself worthy of her love. He's been comparing every woman her's ever dated to Kitty and none has ever measured up. We also finally meet her best friend Chuckie who, as we learn, has also been madly in love with Kitty since forever and wants to lure her from Jeff. Then there is Paul's brother Michael who wants Kitty for himself as well. And lastly, there is a vast disembodied alien consciousness that has been protecting Earth for years who falls in love with Kitty. Seriously?

Look I like Kitty, she's a great character but she is the most extreme Mary Sue I have ever met in fiction.

Conclusion:

I really liked this book. And I am enjoying this series. I just wish the author would tone down the extreme Fabulousness of Kitty. She can still be an awesome character and heroine without being so extra-wonderful.(less)

Katt is officially part of the team, actually one of the few alphas, and one of the only women in the field. Things have somewhat slowed down after what she calls operation fugly. She and Jeff take some vacation but overall have just spent the past 5 months as a couple, while of course living in a huge alien compound LOL. I absolutely loved the first book in the series, “Touched by an Alien,” and was a little worried that “Alien Tango” would be unable to live up to the high expectations I had for it. It turns out I had nothing to fear.

“Alien Tango” picks up about five months after the events of TBAA. It’s the proverbial quiet before the storm as Kitty and the gang get wrapped up in a government power-play, discover a new group of bad guys, and discover an ex-boyfriend who still carries a big torch for Kitty. On top of all that, Kitty gets to face the biggest challenge of them all – finally meeting Jeff’s parents.

The Martini family was a welcome addition to the storyline and I hope they continue to pop up in the future. Jeff’s dad, Alfred, was my personal favorite and it was interesting to see how father and son interacted together. The two are definitely cut from the same cloth but there’s truth to the old philosophy about being too close to a situation to be able to see the big picture. Jeff’s mom, Lucinda, is the type of person that makes you wonder how two people got together in the first place. Alfred is funny, warm, and always ready to pick on people. Lucinda seems to be the exact opposite. To say her first meeting with Kitty has a significant effect on the dynamics of Alpha Centauri life would be a profound understatement.

The Martini family isn’t the only set of new characters we’re introduced to. We meet P.T.C.U. agent Kevin, who previously worked with Kitty’s mom, and we finally get to meet Conspiracy Chuckie. We’ve been hearing Chuck’s voice on the phone since TBAA and he finally gets to step out of the background this time. I was very happy to see how he was worked into the story because everything makes perfect sense. We’re also introduced to ACE. Unfortunately, I can’t say too much about this particular character because there are too many spoilers attached, but ACE is truly unforgettable.

If the gator on the cover has enticed your curiosity, I can promise that it’s not there just because awesome artist Daniel Dos Santos decided to put it there. One word – Alliflash. You’ll have to read the book to find out more. Be ready to have your nerves stretched thin because this is one tense scene.

If you loved TBAA then you should definitely get “Alien Tango” because the Kitty Kat series continues to be a defining force in sci-fi for women, as well as for those who don’t normally like the sci-fi genre.(less)

In this second installment we get a wider view of the politics of the world in which the story is set and a better understanding of the issues the ACs (Alpha Centurians) face in trying to reconcile their own belief system and ways of doing things with the fact that they're a long, long way from home with minimal shots to return.

Kitty and Jeff are one of those couples that make you want to pinch their cheeks and say "you are so CUTE!" They're obviously crazy about one another, but one thing or another gets in the way and they both have to make some decisions about the past, the future and how those two things fit together. When these two are together, you'll laugh! You'll cry! You'll want to punch Jeff in his stupid alien forehead! You'll cheer when folks band together and force him to realize that if you don't hold a good thing dear, someone else will do it for you, and to quite acting like a damn moron and do the right thing! And that's all I'll say about that.

Another interesting development surfaces in the form of Kitty's human best friend, Chuck, and what his role in her wacky world turns out to be. Especially in light of the preview of the next book that was included in my ARC, I'm very, very interested to see what becomes of him. Don't be stupid, Chuck. I'm warning you.

The scenes were Kitty meets Jeff's family are hilarious, hands down. Anyone who's ever had to be nice to someone because the situation required it and not because those feelings were genuine will definitely be able to relate.

If you haven't read the first book in the series, I definitely recommend you start there, because that book was a treat and this one is too, because the way was laid by the first book. Reading in order is fun!

Touched by and Alien introduced us to hot aliens in Armani and the lovely Martini, while Tango takes us home to meet the family.

There is never a dull moment for Kitty and never an adventure that does not call for a stash of rock band t-shirts and her purse that she described in Touched as, " I prefer to think of it as Mary Poppins' carpet bag."
The characters in this series rock, no really they do, to the old school rock. There are many ways to defeat the alien race and Kitty cleans up a few unwanted adversaries with her choice of music.
Facing several old boyfriends it is like a Scott Pilgrim novel since someone is trying to use the exes as a way to off Kitty who only wants a locked door to take Martini into. Kitty is taking out the trash and crushing the hopes and dreams of dreamy past parters near and far, while tracking the bad guys using them for evil intent.

But back to the gators and the inlaws. How do you deal with a conflict? Toss in some gators! There is more gator action in Tango than a Crocodile Dundee movie, and Kitty named them such fantastic names as Alliflash and Gigantigator, so you know trouble is happening. Now back to the inlaws. Kitty's first time meeting the family goes kinda like this when she meets the opposition:
"I'm Kitty, and I'm twenty-seven." I leaned close to her. "You know what my mother says?" She shook her head. "My mother says I can do anything I damn well please. And trust me, my mother can take your mother." My mother could take anyone.

With lines like these who can't take the enemies in this book.
There is never a dull moment with this book or this series. Gini Koch creates a group of hot hilarious characters that just want some time to themselves except that have to save the world multiple times until they can take a week off for Cabo.

Yup, there are not so many aliens in this book other than the good boys and girls of A-C. But there are a lot of crazy alien, marriage proposals, crazy women, and crazy intertwining plots. And really when will people start telling Kitty everything instead of just letting her find things out later on. I mean come on, she’s going to find out. Its just in her nature.
Good:
Kitty: She’s strong. She takes on ‘gators, crazy men, men that are in love with her, other things that are from out of this world, alien mothers, and a high school reunion.
Jeff: Hot as hell. I can understand Kitty’s fascination.
Christopher: Also hotter than hell. I hope they find a girl for him in the next couple of novels. He needs one.
Chuckie: Finally. We’ve heard so much about him and we finally meet and what’s that? He’s also hotter than hell.
James Reader: Still gay. Still hot. Still awesome.
Bad:
Kitty: Alright I know I listed Kitty as one of the good things in this novel but she also bothered me in some ways. Kitty gets really confused…throughout this novel. I don’t really understand why she was confused. She seems to let all the “crazy awesome sex” over take her actual brain.
Overall (Writing style, story line, and general):
Overall I found this one a little confusing to follow but generally when Kitty explains it to everyone you start to get the picture. Even with Kitty being, in my opinion, completely stupid in this novel it was still a good novel. I like that there was the complete 180 change from hostile aliens to hostile humans from the first to the second novel. It adds a little variety. But I will admit this book was confusing there were some things I had to re-read. However, I liked the Alligators.

I admit at first I was a bit afraid, the first book was so great how could the second one be as good…it’s not. This second book is even better than the first one. Full of action, romance, suspense and humour everything is there and so well written. Yet again Kitty and Martini thrilled me with action, passion and otherworldly madness. Yet again Alpha team is threatened with death threats and Kitty responds in her usual wacky way including throwing alligators into a crowded room.

Do you remember the movies/TV shows "Flash Gordon" and "Buck Rogers"? If you recall, these were silly and kitschy beyond belief. Nothing rang true. They were goofy, but they were undeniably fun even though you were laughing as much at them as with them. Combine those elements with James Bond adventure - complete with the most unrealistic situations and dialogue ever. Great fun - it's been a long time since a book grabbed me so hard I stayed up all night to read it. This second series entry fixes the weaknesses of the first (stronger world-building and no "planes can't do that" moments) while building on its strengths. Kitty's a terrific heroine: *actually* smart and a convincing lateral thinker without being Sue-ish. The sex/romance is super hot and a great insight into the headspace of a powerful woman with a mile-wide subby streak in her relationships.

I'm enjoying this series, for the most part. It's very light action/adventure fiction, with a liberal sci-fi/romance slant. So there's lots of running around saving the world, plenty of explosions, and every so often they take some time out for some "mind-blowing sex."

I have a new favorite author, and her name is Gini Koch. Her books will have you laughing out loud, grinning from ear to ear and chuckling your way through them. Martini will have you drooling and Kitty will have you cheering. Martini and Kitty are the best hero/heroine combo to come around in a very long time. They have spunk, charisma, and a sizzle that will leave you wanting more. Martini is one of the few nice guy heroes that I adore, and he's in the running for the book boyfriend of the yea...more I have a new favorite author, and her name is Gini Koch. In fact, I was laughing so hard while at my parents that my mom was like: "What are you reading?" and I swear that the dog was even giving me weird looks. It was worth it though!

Alien Tango is full of non stop action. It takes place six months after Touched By an Alien ends, and it seems like Kitty can't stay out of trouble for long. The refreshing thing about this series is that while trouble finds Kitty and Jeff (Martini) again, it's totally different then the trouble that found them in Touched. This time around it's crazy in laws, some crazy chasing alligators, a stalker crazy girl and an ex who thinks he's still in love with Kitty. Oh yes, she also saves an all power entity, helps the women of A C battle the tradition of arranged marriages, finds trouble at her high school reunion and battles the alien hating group Club 51 who'd be more then happy to see all the aliens disappear.

While some of my favorite characters from the first book-Christopher, (will he ever get a girlfriend?) Reader and Gower return, some new characters are added to the mix that I loved equally as much as my old favorites: Kevin, Ace, and Martini's dad. There were also some great villains added in the mix. I really liked the fact that while I was laughing my way through the book, Kitty and Martini had some real issues to deal with like religion, old traditions and dating someone who isn't from your race or in this case, planet. The issues were woven into the story with care and didn't distract from the light heartiness of the book, but it was nice to see that they weren't ignored since Kitty and Jeff have such different backgrounds. I think that my favorite thing about this book, well really the entire series is that there is an actual romance occurring in the book-none of this fight until the last 50 pages of the book then realize that they are perfect for each other crap that you find so often in romances. Even though Kitty and Jeff don't have the love-hate thing going on, there is enough drama happening that their romance doesn't get old.

This is one of my favorite new series of the year, and Gini Koch has become an auto buy author for me. I can't wait for Alien in the Family to come out in April! Martini has catapulted to the top of my book boyfriend list and Kitty is one of my favorite heroines. She just doesn't take any crap from those boys!

I didn't really like this book as much as I liked the first which is odd for me because its the first in a series I usually like the least. I love how a story that could be so hokey is made into a fun story that I enjoy reading. Koch is still on my favorite author list because I really like the way she writes.

I stared at the screen of my computer and thought “Nikki, (yes I say my name in my head), what can we say about this book? Martini and Kitty have settled into a routine of him living with her and she telling herself he doesn’t actually live there. Things are good. Things are calm. Pretty much.

A cluster of alien activity is never a good thing and when it coincides with some big governmental secrets, well, shit is about to hit the proverbial fan. Something is brewing. Something that the government bigwigs don’t want the Alpha Centuri’s to find out. Add in an obsessive wannabe girlfriend for Kitty’s ex, an attempted arranged marriage for Martini, a bodyless space entity and a group of skinhead alien haters…ooooo and alligators..freakily fast alligators, Kitty and Martini and the rest of the Alpha Centuri’s have their hands full. There’s no rest for the wicked….

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I enjoyed the banter of all the characters. They act like a big family, well I guess they are since all the aliens are related, but you know what I mean. Kitty was back with her quick thinking mind and her overly sarcastic mouth. Showing up the guys constantly. That woman takes absolutely no crap from anyone. I loved her take charge attitude and her overly emotional adrenalin let down where she burst into tears. Martini was always there to dry her tears though, and pick up the pieces. Even when he was being an ass about it.

Reader, the gay human friend who works with the aliens as well, was a great addition. He provided comic relief in dire situations and his ability to connect with Kitty on a different level was very well wrote. He provides a friendship that is completely different then those Kitty has with the other Alpha Centuri’s, even the women.

The underlying prejudice storyline really helped move the book along quite nicely. Gini shows us things from both sides. She includes a skinhead type group who hate aliens and wants them wiped out. Then she shows you an old school family that doesn’t want their extremely powerful empath son/nephew to even think about marrying a human and mixing blood. Having both sides shown gives you the unique opportunity to hear both arguments.

Christopher still hasn’t gotten any booty…and honestly…the man needs to. He scowls way too much. I’m holding out hope that he gets some action soon.

Gini Koch has forever changed what I think about Sci Fi. She has made me want to broaden my reading horizons. If this book was a movie, it would be one of those blockbuster, bajillion dollar grossing, films. In fact, I hold out hope that someday, some extremely smart movie maker will take these to the screen. Because the only thing better than me trying to use my imagination to locate the level of heat Gini brings to the pages, would be me experiencing it on screen…where the male actors would be hotter and uh bigger then life!

I really liked this book. My only complaint and the reason I gave it 4 stars is the multiple love interests. It frustrates me that Kitty has to keep falling in love with almost everyone who loves her. Jeff is great for her why can't that be the end of it. I understand that Chuckie was the best friend and that she might have loved him but it should have stayed strictly in the past tense not reared it's ugly head when her and Jeff have been broken up for 2 mins. Touched by an Alien was one of my favourite reads of the year so far so I couldn't wait to get started on Alien Tango. I have totally fallen in love with this series and am so glad I already have my copy of Alien in the Family to devour next. I really do think this series will appeal to fans of paranormal romance and urban fantasy as well as science fiction lovers.

This book is so full of action and suspense that it's hard to know where to start with a review, I don't want to go into too much detail and give anything away because I really think you need to experience the story for yourself. The story picks up 5 months after the ending of Touched by an Alien and Kitty is settling into her role as commander of the airborn division. Her relationship with Jeff Martini has been going from strength to strength and they are more in love than ever but she is yet to meet his parents who really don't seem to approve of them being together. Martini is jealous of her best friend Chuckie and is determined to make Kitty go to her high school reunion so he can show Chuckie who Kitty belongs to. Throw into the mix political intrigue, alien politics, Kitty's ex boyfriend and his crazy stalker and Martini and Kitty are sure to be in for a bumpy ride.

Martini stole my heart in Touched by an Alien and I'm even more in love with him now than ever. He and Kitty are scorching hot together and I can't get enough of them, they are right up there with Cat & Bones from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series as one of my favourite fictional couples - high praise indeed from me because I adore Bones! Alien Tango was just so much fun to read, the snarky humor from the previous book is back and again I was laughing out loud as I was reading the book. I really think this is a series I shouldn't read in public unless I want to get a lot of funny looks. When Kitty finally gets to meet Martini's family sparks fly and I was cheering Kitty along the whole way, she certainly took no prisoners and I'm sure a lot of people out there wish they were as outspoken with their in-laws as she is (I definitely could have done with some tips from her to deal with my ex's family!).

Just like in the first book we are still treated to a strong cast of secondary characters. I would have liked to see a little more of Christopher but hopefully he'll have a bigger role in the next installment. I loved getting to see more of Reader and it was great to finally meet Chuckie who we heard a lot about in the first book but didn't actually see until this one. With some of the revelations made in Alien Tango I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of him in the future. Kitty's mother still has some surprises up her sleeve and you can see where Kitty gets a lot of her strength from.

If you haven't yet discovered this series I really can't recommend it highly enough, it's been a long time since an adult series captured me as hard and fast as this one did and I can't wait to see what Gini Koch has in store for us next. If you enjoyed the first book in the series then you're going to love Alien Tango even more, now I'm off to get started on Alien in the Family!(less)

Awwwww Yeah!!! Gini Koch has done it again!

Alien Tango has been one of my most eagerly awaited books this year; I literally jumped up and down when it arrived in my mailbox. I mean, that cover is gorgeous - it must have great things inside, right? Right!!!

It's six months after the events in Touched by an Alien (my gushing review here), and things have been relatively quiet. Kitty, or Commander Katt now, has been putting out small fires here and there but nothing big. She's been working with her new team of human pilots, and the super-hot A-C guys, when they get a call that there's big trouble brewing. They end up in Florida, which also happens to be where Martini's family lives...

OMG the action in this book is non-stop - there's aliens and alligators, human-supremacists and a stalker. People get killed, things get blown up, and there's some astronauts in quarantine who are having weird side-effects. Then Kitty meets Martini's family...and his fiancee!?!

Alien Tango was full of action, but there were some great threads running between all the action too: One recurring point throughout the book is Jeff wanting to to to Kitty's high school reunion - Kitty doesn't want to go but reluctantly agrees. I won't put up any spoilers but it doesn't go quite like she expected. We also meet Kitty's best friend, Chuckie. I mentioned in my TBAA review that I wished we'd get more of Chuckie - thank you Ms. Koch - I love him! (And the fact that Martini soooo does not love Chuckie is quite funny.)

And just when I started wanting more Kitty/Martini relationship action - bam! - Ms. Koch delivered - but not in the way I'd expected. (She's sneaky like that!)

Some of my old favorites are back: Christopher, Reader, and Kitty's parents, and now I've got new favorites - Chuckie and Martini's dad, Alfred.

I don't think it's possible to tell you how full of win this book is - the jokes are so corny they're funny. Alien Tango is like a comic book in novel format - the aliens, the action, the funny, the romance! I can't wait to see what's next in this amazing series. (BTW - are there plans for graphic novels? 'Cause I'd totally buy them!)(less)

A great sequel to Touched by an Alien.

Kitty can't seem to catch a break. Only five months since she destroyed the most powerful superbeing, she finds herself in the middle of 3 evil plans. Lucky for us she is up to it.

I just love Kitty's plans. They are all so insane but they actually work, even if there are some side effects. Like the plan with the alligators. :-)

Some books pull me in despite my reservations, not because I'm overwhelmed by the writing, but because the story and the voice of the author are so compelling. ALIEN TANGO is one of those novels. Rowling and you thought if I read another adverb where Harry, Ron, Hermoine or any of the others did one more thing happily, sacredly, sadly etc., I was going to poke my eye out with a fork but I still found myself being blown away and loving the series. Or when I read the Twilight Saga and asked myself why am I reading about a heroine who is taking the woman's movement and moving it back to the sixteenth century, why? And why do I keep re-reading this? That is how I feel when I was reading ALIEN TANGO, I read if fully understanding that their were things that drove my crazy, but I loved the book despite those things.

ALIEN TANGO is the second novel in the Kitty Katt (yes, that is her real name and part of my issues with the novel) series. The first novel, Touched By Alien while engaging, didn't suck me in, but it was enough for me to want to read the second book. Although I think that was because I had already had this book when it was offered free from Amazon.

Here's what drove me batty.

• The slapstick comedy routine. I mean come on. You're running for your life and this is how you're acting what you're thinking? Not only the slapstick when you're running for your life, but in all other instances. I mean really Kitty, really? Those moments didn't work for me personally. But I will admit that one scene where she's in the car and accidently turned on the On Star (sorry, I don't know the universal term, the dispatch help people that come with some car models) cracked me up. That was frigging hilarious. Everything else made me roll my eyes. I think the author would get better results if she kept to Kitty's character traits but toned down the slap stick in future releases.

• The obvious plot. I know I have a weird habit of usually guessing what's going to happen in a book, but ALIEN TANGO was way too obvious for me. The instant a hint appeared, I could tell what it was about and how it would manifest later. To me it was like hanging a sign over someone's head (umm, especially Chucky's from the first telephone call in the first couple pages) and saying, 'the killer is Colonel Mustard and he's in the conservatory with a candlestick.' Or was I the only one who caught all the plot clues? I know this is a habit of mine, but to me they seemed more obvious than usual.

• How convenient all the pieces falls into place for Kitty. She hardly has to work for anything (except kill a few monsters) her family relationships, old boyfriends, men all seem to fall quite easily into the spaces Kitty has mapped out from them with only a couple words. There is no real strong internal angst or conflict.

However, despite the issues that I had with ALIEN TANGO, it pulled me in. ALIEN TANGO has an unique premise, interesting romance, quirky characters that pulled me in and had me going back for more and more importantly wanting more.
