The first third of this book was amazing. I thought, "I have found another brilliant YA author who is HILARIOUS that I can now Google relentlessly and stalk online!" Really, the beginning of the book was hysterical. I was laughing out loud at least once per page.

I cannot simply express how much I love this book. I have read this novel at least - at least - twenty times and still laugh, still have those "aww" moments, still identify with and adore the lead character, Jack Grammar. It's a book about growing up, falling in love, learning life's shitty lessons, and that's just in high school.

The narrative is hilarious! Jack's thoughts are random, some may even call it spastic, but yet still easy to follow. He's funny and dorky in a way that makes you love...more I cannot simply express how much I love this book. It's a book about growing up, falling in love, learning life's shitty lessons, and that's just in high school.

The narrative is hilarious! Jack's thoughts are random, some may even call it spastic, but yet still easy to follow. He's funny and dorky in a way that makes you love him all the more. His slightly flighty behavior makes him seem more real. You forget you're reading a book. It's like watching one of your crazy best friends or your even crazier boyfriend jump right into an adventure. He IS the holy trinity of what a girl wants - sweet, funny, attractive. I relate to his character even more because he has this way of doing things that aren't perfect. He says things he doesn't mean and things people don't understand (transgenic forces of springtime!) but you know he does it with a good, somewhat confused heart.

I loved the action and all the memories he shares; I love how open he is with himself, but his social awkwardness that makes you yearn to give him what he wants - his dreams! I like that he gains self-confidence throughout the novel, but it's not suddenly there and overwhelming. Jack takes things slowly and I like that he never knows when to think things through or just jump in. For example, he has his doubts about kissing but nothing about "marrying" Pamela when he finds out she was his kindergarten sweetheart.

As you read along and really get close to the character, you find himself experiencing everything he is and feeling the same way - how stressed out he becomes by everything that's happening. How funny he feels when the relationship with his best friend is put to the test. How completely sideswiped he is to find out the secrets that lie behind the plot of 24/7. You want to hate Kaylee and Natalie; you want him to learn how to love the other girls like Callie, Sarah, and Adrian. You adore him for figuring things out as he goes, even if it takes him a while.

I actually turned this book into a play for my senior production in high school. That's how much I loved this book. I'd recommend it to anyone with a soft spot for cute, awkward guys with a big heart and big dreams. (less)

This is, I think, one of the most underrated pieces of young adult literature. I happened upon the book by chance two years ago at my local library, and that’s the only place I’ve ever seen it. I had to order it off Amazon to get it again. If you look at the premise, you think that this is just a completely ordinary quirky young adult romance, and indeed for the first half of the book, it pretty much follows that plot line. You’ve got a nerdy, awkward, but ultimately nice guy trying to find a girl, his friends help him out, and he goes looking for a girl for all the wrong reasons, until he finds his true love at the end, blah, blah, blah.

But this book seems to be all about taking preconceived expectations and smashing them to bits. There are a number of moments throughout the book where Jack is convinced that he’s got everything figured out, that all the puzzle pieces fit together perfectly, and he’s found his girl and his happy ending. And . . . it never ends up being that way. He thinks he’s destined to be with his best friend . . . and he’s not. He thinks he’s destined to be with the girl of his dreams . . . and he’s not. He thinks he’s going to find the girl of his dreams at prom . . . and he doesn’t. In fact, of the three questions that come up during the course of this story--who is Jack going to pick for prom, who is FancyPants, and who is he going to end up with?--the answer is completely unexpected. (Though I did correctly guess who FancyPants was when I first read it. But I still liked it.)

Other young adult romances seem to have the lead character making some kind of growth or change, and as a result, he or she gets the object of his or affection and they live happily ever after. Jack Grammar goes through character growth as well, but the result is not the same as other young adult romances. He sees both his prom date and FancyPants as answers to his love life problems, and in the end, they aren’t, at least not directly, but he’s still very happy with the results. The final part of this story is considerably more touching than any other young adult novel I’ve read, even though Jack doesn’t end up with someone. He gets a prom date, he finds out who FancyPants is, and he hooks up with someone, but there’s no promise of a happily ever after.

The girls on the list vary greatly, they’re all well-developed and interesting (even the horrible ones), and there isn’t one that is wholly right for Jack. He likes several of them, just like guys in high school tend to like several girls. Most people don’t find their soulmate in high school, if they do at all. We see this very romanticized vision of high school, much like we see in a lot of young adult romances, but in the end, we find that this vision is a lie. But it’s in acknowledging and accepting that it is a lie that Jack is able to find the beauty that others see in their high school prom. Jack does make a character change, but it’s not a change that wins him a girl, but rather a change that gives him the power and confidence to seek out his own way, which is a much more compelling message than we usually see with these types of stories. It says that high school is not ideal, but that it doesn’t need to be to still be a memorable experience. More people, especially of that age group, really need to read this story and take in all that it has to offer.

The first time I saw this book, my thoughts were: "Hmm, seems a little playerific for me. Misogynistic, in fact."

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that wants to read a fun outside reading book. It was humorous and enjoyable. Plus, the suspense of finding out who Jack would go to prom with was an event in the book that I did not want to miss. In the novel there were not that many round or dynamic characters but, with Jack’s first person point of view the reader gets to learn a bit about each of the characters involved in the story. Having Jack narrate and getting to see everything from his point of view made the novel more interesting and more appealing. Finally, I would absolutely suggest this book to others and I will most likely read it again in the future.

“24 Girls in 7 Days” is a fiction book written by Alex Bradley. The main characters are Jack, Percy, and Natalie. Jack is a smart boy but he isn’t very good with women. They posted an ad on the school website asking if anyone was interested in going with Jack and if they were to email him. When Jack found out Percy and Natalie told him they already had 45 responses. Natalie’s sister suggested that Percy and Natalie could narrow the response down to girls they think Jack might like. They decided they would make a list of 24 girls and he would go on a date with all of them before prom in a week and Jack decides he will go along with it. For the next 7 days he meets many girls, some that he likes and some that he doesn’t. While this is all going on he got an email from someone who wasn’t on the list named Miss Fancypants. He feels like he is really connecting with her.
Overall, the book is very engaging. Alex Bradley did a great job at combining comedy with romance. Also, he did well at not replicating personalities for the 24 girls Jack went on dates with and not making the dates they went on the same. Another thing Alex Bradley did well was making the high school actually seem like a high school. There were the smart girls, the popular girls that didn’t want anyone to know it they were going, the awkward girls, and the “easy” girls who showed Jack their breasts. If I could change anything in the book I would probably change Jacks choice at the end of the book. The book is very unique. I don’t think anyone else has written a book on a high school student going on 24 dates in 7 days to find a prom date.
In conclusion, I would recommend for everyone to read this book. It is not terribly long and it was written terrifically.
