Generally I like books to have complete stories. These stories have a beginning, middle and end and when I read the last page my mind evaluates or digests what I have read and I can then form an opinion. Roses are Red by James Patterson isn’t like his average stories. Most of Patterson’s novels begin by corralling the reader into his world and leading them down corridors with short chapters and never ending action. Along this fast paced ride through the hall of suspense the reader gets flash imp More...

I felt this wasn't the best of the Alex Cross series, but it was very good. The wirting pattern makes it easy to set the book down and come back to it.
The one thing that annoys me is that the biggest bad guy never seems to get his nailed. While in some of the books, some of the bad guys are figured out and brought to justice, but dang I want to see the worst of the worst - the mastermind - nailed. I know this makes it possible for a same theme sequel, but it leaves an unsatisfactory aftertaste.

James Patterson- Roses Are Red (Little, Brown and Company 2000) 3 Stars
Alex Cross has just broken with his fiancé and when she takes off he is left with his baby son. As if the breakup were not enough he is drawn into a tangled web of deception and betrayal. The Mastermind is robbing banks using pawns and then killing off the pawns as well as any others that he chooses to die. For him Cross is the perfect adversary.
This is actually the villain I have been waiting for having read a later book in More...

The sixth installment in the heart-racing Alex Cross series.
I don’t know if I am sweating because it is hot in my house and I am drinking coffee, or if it is because of the emotional roller coaster that this book just sent me on.
I am guessing the latter.
This is probably one of the best suspense/thriller novels I have read in a long time. Probably since the second book in this series Kiss the Girls.
Alex Cross is put on a disturbing case involving multiple bank robberies and murders.

Roses are Red is one of James Patterson's ever so thrilling Detective Cross series. Book number 6.
James Patterson is really good in keeping suspense throughout his story line. In this case, he does so ever so well. The Mastermind, in this case, was being hunt down by the FBI and the Washington PD. The Mastermind had arranged and hired people do commit perfect illogical crimes.
I was anticipating what would happened next because the Mastermind was so good at planning the crimes. Eventually, i kept More...

Ugh. I've read a handful of Patterson's books and none of them would qualify as good literature, but this one was particularly awful. The writing is cliched and one-dimensional, the characters are uninteresting, and the story tries to be so shocking that it actually ends up being predictable. There are not enough clues to actually figure out who the bad guy is, so basically you just have to wait until they tell you and then you aren't surprised and don't care. I didn't care when his girlfriend l More...

"In this heart-pounding new thriller, Detective Alex Cross pursues the most brilliant killer he's ever confronted, a mysterious criminal who calls himself the Mastermind. In a series of crimes that has stunned Washington, D.C., bank robbers have been killing bank employees and their families if the robbers' instructions are not followed to the letter. Alex Cross knows this is no ordinary criminal-the pathological need for control and perfection is too great. Cross is in the midst of a crisis at More...

Today’s review is for Roses are Red by James Patterson. I do love his books, and I especially love the Alex Cross series of books. The ones I have are audio books that I listen to my car on the way to work which is especially handy. My commute is pretty short, I only get about 40 minutes in the car a day, so when I’m alone, I cue up the book on my iP.od and listen away. It takes me about a week to get through a book this way.

A couple of friends have been recommending Patterson to me for ages, so when I saw this and the sequel - Violets are Blue - together in a charity shop i picked up the pair. Patterson writes in short, punchy chapters and vivid detail, and i flew through the book, pulled forward by the pace. It was, however, an entirely unsatisfying experience. The writing is incredibly formulaic - detective battling personal problems? check. the only man who can solve the case? check? increasing complications in More...

I am a big fan of the Alex Cross books by Patterson and I overall enjoyed this installment. It has the Patterson trademarked short sweet chapters, that I love because it makes the book breeze by. Good plot development and overall I liked it. Spoilers coming...
I have to say that though I did enjoy the book two things stuck out at me that I wish would have been better. The first is the plot development with the Cross family seemed a little thin and forced. Jannie's medical condition wasn't as dram More...

I forgot to write my review about this book and it's been a few weeks since I finished it. So let's see how badly I can recap/review it!
The Mastermind is the newest baddy that goes up against Cross. These guys just all seem to take cross as their personal adversary that they must defeat. The Mastermind hires a group of criminals to rob a bank. Whilst the robbery is in progress, the other part of the team is at one of the bankers homes. They tell them to open the safe, give them the money before More...

Roses are Red by James Patterson is simply a very good book. This book is written in an interesting way, incorporating repetition and suspense in a positive way. It was a quick read, mostly because the chapters were each about three pages long, and there wasn’t any difficulty comprehending or trying to understand the plot, although you still had to think because there is a detective theme. The main character, Alex Cross, is a detective in Washington D.C. who is on the hunt for the Mastermind beh More...

I can not begin to describe how much I hated this book. Uninteresting, the main character wasn't particularly appealing, and the writing is terrible. The end is a cliffhanger, and I could care less about getting the next book to find out the end of the story. This is the first James Patterson book I read, and the last.

This is not the type of book I really like but I was given a whole bunch of books by a relative of my hubbie..I decided to give it a shot since I really was waiting for some books I had bought to arrive..It was good if U like this sort of thing..It was a fast read, chapters are short, and some twists and turns..It kept me guessing who the Mastermind was..I feel sorry for Alex Cross..I really do.His wife is killed in some earlier book, his girlfriend in this one breaks up with him, and then his n More...

I like Patterson's books they always deliver on the promise of gripping suspense and this book is no exception. Roses are Red is book #6 in the Alex Cross series, it delivers a high paced drama, a sound view of the professional and personal life of Alex, and the pursuit and the investigation of a case.
An engrossing book, the only axe to grind for me is that I intensely dislike books that leave you with a cliff hanger!!! I like the books to finish the story they have started, even if it’s part o More...

HOLY COW...My mouth literally dropped open when I read the last sentence in this book! To be completely honest, I read that same sentence like 5 times! Holy chit, batman! I am off to start the next book, Violets are Blue to see where this goes! Holy cow!

I love the Alex Cross character. He has a family which Patterson includes in the background of what's going on. Everyone has problems at work as well as at home. Cross is on the case to find the "Mastermind" while dealing with his own personal issues.

Terrible. True garbage. It's just trash. James Patterson cannot write worth a damn. He uses these cardboard, stiff characters and generates wannabe suspense that really isn't much suspense. The 'romance' moves much too quickly to the point where it's unbelievably unrealistic. Really, MUST he cram a sex scene(s) into all of his books? There aren't really any motives for some murders and it's just a horrifically horrible book. Do NOT read. There are actually some GOOD books, preferably by Michael More...

I really enjoy James Patterson's books.
They are always good. I think he's an excellent writer. Reallys sucks you into the book after the first chapter....It was the same with this one. Theres even a cliff hanger. At the very end he tells you something important {I can't say what} but by the time the last chapter read, I thought maybe, just maybe it was that person! LOL Other More...

I am tempted to give it a 1. But I remember that at some point, I did enjoy reading it. Just OK, I guess.
I just don't like the fact that the real Mastermind is someone closer and more familiar, because I couldn't see how he could arrange everything. Perhaps you can read more in the next book but I think I won't be reading any Alex Cross' books in near future.

As with the many crime novels that I've read, I couldn't wait to get to the end. And what awaited me was totally unexpected and left me shell-shocked. Now I can't wait to read the next one. Unfortunately that's the bad thing about the series - the stories sort of come to conclusion but what happens to the major bad guys remain ambiguous and these characters recur in the next book(s), which makes you feel incomplete until you've read everything. I suppose it's a tactic to keep you going.

I am not sure about this one. I liked it but not as much as I have enjoyed the other ones. Perhaps it is in part due to the abrupt way his love life is handled in this book, it was a little off putting and almost angering since I have fallen in love with character of Alex Cross. I also felt like it was interesting but for some reason for me took a little longer to get going. I do have to say that I think it got better near then end and not to spoil anything, but the biggest plot twist of the ser More...

This novel provides most of what I read Patterson for. He's a guilty pleasure. His books are totally without any literary merit whatsoever. But his plots are usually clever and certainly suspenseful, with a lot of twists that often spin out of control. This one let me down, however. The unnamed villain is disclosed in the final chapter, with no resolution--that is, Alex Cross doesn't discover who it is, and he seemingly gets away with all his crimes. Undoubtedly this shortcoming is addressed--an More...

I love me some James Patterson. His books are easy to read and suspenseful, leaving you wondering whodunit, allll the time. This round was no different. It is the 6th installment in the Alex Cross series, of which I have not read in any particular order and I still didn't feel as if I was missing something. Mr. Patterson does a great job at filling in the blanks in his sequntial novels. In Roses are Red, someone is robbing banks, while simultaneously murdering family members of the bank managers More...

this book is about murders. In the beginning, the detectives are looking for the Mastermind, who is the main killer.
this book is really awsome. It starts right off in the begginning, on the very first page, in a murder seen. It catches the attention of the reader. Not only that but it also keeps throughout the whole book...well at least it kept mine. It's actually one of my top favorite books. i love it so much, i read it four times, and i plan on reading it agin. it actually brings you in the s More...

Ok, first of all I miss the old narrator. I think his name was Michael Kramer... I mean in my mind Alex cross is Morgan Freeman and that guy was perfect.
Anyway, this book was okay, but really it seems like we've gone back to the beginning with the stories. I mean repeating plot lines and a maudlin Alex Cross. Plus the "big" cliffhanger that you can kind of see coming at least halfway through the book, although once it's revealed I wonder why make it a cliffhanger. Plus you still have the big ba More...
