A nice inspiring book. The idea that this book primarily suggests is that we keep an eye on people who come into our lives because they might be God-sent. Meaning, they have roles to play in our lives that would make us better children of God.

At the start of this self-improvement book, Debbie Macomber (born 1948) recalls that she is a list person and when she was a lot younger she used to keep one with the names of people that she would like to meet. The result however, was not very encouraging More...

Debbie had kept a list of people that she thought that she would really like to meet. These were writers and singers and folks that she had been moved by or impressed by what she knew of them. As she became more well known herself she had an opportunity to meet some of the people on her list and found that they often fell short of what she imagined that they would be like. One example was a singer that she admired whose words had touched her heart. Upon meeting this person, she found that someo More...

In common with many other Type A personalities, the internationally renowned author of more than 100 novels, Debbie Macomber, who has more than 100 million books currently in print, is an inveterate list maker. In the past, she confesses, she drew up a list of all those people whom she had long admired and whom she wished to meet. However, by trial and error she came to realize that the guest list that she had drawn up for herself was much inferior to that which God had for her life. Now Macombe More...

Macomber makes you think about all the people you have encountered throughout your life and how they have affected your path. Everyone from family members, childhood friends, teachers, coaches, our spouse(s), adult friends, neighbors and colleagues and how they have shaped your life through positive and negative influences. Her anedotal stories about herself and others show how God brings people into our lives, but we have to allow it. We all have a list of people we would like to meet, but many More...

A GEM!

God’s Guest List is a hit with me because I am fascinated by personality disorders and deep-rooted, mind-altering dilemmas and how to repair damage. If all would heed these stories there wouldn’t be so many deep-rooted problems to begin with. This is down-to-earth and touching in multiple stories that reach straight into the heart of the matter, the influence everyone you meet has on your life story. We need to pay attention to the mirrors, the blessings, the “ah hah” moments and words spo More...

Got this book at the library. This non fiction Debbie Macomber book is great. Talks about how we should make lists of people in our lives and think about how they influenced us. One of the interesting this is she wants us to think not just about positive influcences but also "prickly people" and how they chaned our lives. Does get a little "preachy" at times, but is certainly worth reading. It reminded me of a lady I met 4 years ago in a hospital waiting room. Her husband was critically ill and More...

I know, you all are shocked that I read this one, given my title as the resident skeptic/agnostic. But
1. It was an advance reading copy
2. I've liked her fiction writing

Each chapter is broken out by theme. I read the small story pieces in each chapter, which talked about different people she has met in her life, how they affected her, and what they taught her about life, love & God. They were like nice little short stories and enjoyable to me. I did NOT read the ending pieces in each chapter, More...

I recently was blessed to have read this book. This book truly changed my view of how I look at the people in my life, rather they are there for awhile or just a passer-by. I found myself marking page after page in an effort to take a portable snapshop of the notes I acquired while reading these treasures. Although I am not a romance novel fan, Debbie Macomber poured her heart out on each page of the pages included in this book. I'm grateful she was led to write this magnificent piece and I feel More...

I got this book on recommendation from my mom and my nana. It was poorly written, but the concepts are great. It really challenged me to think about the role every person I encounter plays in my life. The premise is that everyone is in your life for a reason and for a particular season to teach you something about life or yourself, etc. Likewise, it challenges you to consider the influence you have on those around you. Gave me some great ideas for preserving my family's legacy and the like. A ve More...

I think this is a great book about how much we can influence others positively and how are ordinary interactions with various people can be more important than we think or realize. This book is short even to read fairly quick or in small parts and interactive enough to be thought-provoking but still not overwhelm any reader or get any reader to panic because it is comsuming an emorous amount of time to do the interactive parts. Some activities in the RSVP parts of the book do take more time, but More...

The answers may surprise you.Through touching true stories and inspiring insight Debbie Macomber takes readers on a journey to discover the shaping influence others have on us and the power we have to shape and influence those whose paths cross ours.

Each of us have “influencers” that have affected our lives—some from a distance, some through word or deed, some through example, be it good or bad. Often we don’t even recognize the deep impa More...

This book was given to me by my sister-in-law who was touched by it. I was too and want to share it with about 6 people I can think of off the top of my head. The author tells many stories about the people God has brought into her life and she ventures some reasons they were in her life. She has ideas for keeping your own people journal and she has leading questions and ideas for meditating on the meaning of their presence. Socrates said,The unexamined life is not worth living or something to th More...

One of the best books I have read and shared with several of my closest friends. Very thought provoking as we learn why, for better or worse, all we have come in contact with is by design. Whether it be for a brief amount of time or a lifelong friendship, All of something to offer: positive or negative. There are also people that were meant to come into our lives and we "missed" just because we judge quickly. Step out of your comfort zone and read this one.

I didn't care for the writing style of this book because the stories were sparse and undeveloped. However, I really liked the idea of recognizing people (good and bad) who are put into our lives to guide us, teach us, help us. And I especially like the idea of doing one good deed a day for someone for no reason at all. I do plan to keep my own guest list now (I really need to journal), and I have already begun my one random act of kindness each day, and it feels good!

This was a interesting read. I love the author and thought why not. It was an easy read with alot of questions to make think. She was talking about all the missed opportunities that we miss. That God puts people into our life to change us and if we don't keep our eyes open we may miss them. The story at the beginning about all the unopened boxes was awesome. It really gets you thinking about everything that happens in our life.

I was tempted to breeze past this book as predictable, but I was stopped in my tracks in too many people's brief life stories whose words and influence had made a similar difference in mine, just like the author's. I will be looking at my daily interactions with new insight, knowing that there are many "guests" that I have passed over for various reasons. Two obvious guests have come along since I started reading the book.

I have to say I really enjoyed this. There were some great stories in there. I never really thought that hard about the impact people, beyond friends and family, had in our lives. I'm glad I decided to pick this up. So far I don't think I've read a Debbie Macomber book that has disappointed me. Thank you Debbie for writing such a wonderful book with such a lovely topic. Thank you and keep them coming!

This book explains the many gifts that God sends into our lives through the people He brings to us. It encourages us to be a gift to others and has action steps to facilitate our awareness of how we can influence others. The book is well written and a very quick read. It touches the heart with the stories it shares.

I recommend this book to anyone wanting to grow their relationships with others and with God.

I enjoy Debbie Macomber as a fiction writer who can tell a good story. Her writing style is friendly, inviting and engaging.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that those same traits were strong in her non fiction book. In this work of non fiction, Debbie shares her spiritual view on people who helped form her into the person she is today. She also invites the reader to reflect on their personal experience. Because she is so honest and open about her life, I found that encouraged me to do the sam More...

I like this book as it has you reflect on the different people God places in your life and how they influence you. The author suggests rather than making a list of "famous" people you would like to meet, that you look at those already in your life.
The chapters are divided into categories. Each chapter can be read independently. You do not have to read it cover to cover.

This is the first book that I have purchased written by the author and I was not disappointed. This book has helped me to see and understand the many different people that have entered my life and the inpact that they have had on it. I am so glad that I purchased this book and I am now looking for other books written by this wonderful author.

I really enjoyed this book! The author shares her profound faith in God's will, and how he brings certain people into our lives to teach us a lesson or sharpen our lives. While I didn't agree with every point the author makes, I truly enjoyed her thoughts about faith and how God has created a list of people who will touch our lives. I recommend!

This is the first book that I have read of the author and and it won't be the last. This book was a delightful read; just as if I was sitting down having coffee with her and sharing heart to heart. I can tell that she is sweet, caring and true, and a real lover of people. Something to definitely add to your reading list.

This book was well written. Most of us create lists to live by. Some of us create a list of who we may like to meet in our lifetime; however, God already has his list of people that He is going to place in our path during our lifetime. I really enjoyed this book, and look forward to who God has next on my list to meet.

I am very much enjoying this book. Debbie talks about creating a guest list of people God has placed in your life.

Its very refreshing and enjoyable.

I checked it out of the library but like it so much I have bought a copy for a friend for Christmas.

Great thought provoking questions that I can take away with me.

I loved this book. Debbie tells about several people she has encountered in her travels and how she wasn't expecting the impact each person had in her life. It makes you think differently about the people you meet everyday, even the one in the grocery aisle.

Debbie gives food for thought and helps the reader understand what goes behind her fiction writing and how she sees her characters. What a great attitude to think of people... even prickling ones.. as being placed in our life to help us grow. Thanks!

I thought this book was very thought provoking. A very interesting idea to keep a journal of the people who have influenced your life. To think that maybe it wasn't just chance they showed up. I have been aware of instances where I felt God sent a stranger to guide me on the way. Then another interesting thought is who have I influenced and has it been in a positive or negative way. A good book and I am glad I read it.

Very enjoyable, lots to think about relationships and who God has placed in our lives. A dear Sister in Christ gave me this book for my birthday, and I decided to read it over the Christmas break from Bible Study. Very uplifting.
