This is a good book for introducing some of the issues going on in the South as people tried to integrate in the 1960's. Readers who pick up this book might not be able to differentiate between the fictional account of what happened inside the car and the nonfiction about what led these three activists to be in Mississippi in the first place. This book would be a good read-aloud (it's only 40 pages) and jumping off point for kids before researching events related to the civil rights movement as ...more
This is a well-illustrated short tale of what happened to 3 civil rights workers when they tried to establish Freedom schools in Mississippi. I'd recommend it for any children who are studying civil rights.
Excellent book - I use it to teach pursuit of justice to my class...
