Another of the early books in the series, and one before Qwill has received his inheritence and is the poor bachelor we came to love long before Pickax. Koko and Yum Yum are disappearing from his new apartment above Iris Cobb and her husband's antique store, and coming back with all kinds of clues to the recent murder of a successful antique dealer nearby. This book introduces 'Junktown', an area of the city Qwill is living in mainly funded for Antique stores. It has a bad reputation around the

I've read a bunch of The Cat Who... in the order I've found them or they have happened in my eyes.
Only after I recently read The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern, did I discover that the oldest ones are very different.
The first 3 were published between 1966 and 1968, and the rest of the books 20+ years after that.

I have been reading this series for years and it was one of the set of books that my mom and I read at the same time. When one of us would finish a book then we would trade off and then discuss them. I love these books for light, fluffy reads.
This book in particular is the third in the Cat Who series. I loved going back to the beginning of the series and seeing Qwilleran, Koko and Yum Yum in their more humble origins. I also learned where Qwilleran met Mrs. Cobb who plays a large ro More...

This third installment of the Cat Who series exhibits the same characteristics as the other books in the series. These are light reading and generally fun books, although they will not test the limits of one's ability to figure out mysteries. This book is a quick and fun read. These early books have a slightly different tone as Qwilleran is still in the city, is constantly short on money, and has just acquired a second cat, YumYum. In this book, Qwill sets out to write a story about Junktown

Qwilleran moves into Junktown to explore the world of antiques. He realizes that nobody outside of the neighborhood cares about the historic Junktown. The city is trying to tear it down. He also investigates the mysterious death of antique dealer, Andy Glanz, who fell off of a stepladder and onto a finial.
I enjoed this book. Koko and Yum-Yum certainly did their fair share of the investigation. What is probably the best part of the book is the characters--there are plenty of them! More...

So far, in each book I've read, Qwill and his felines are living in a different place. In the early books, as this one's the 3rd in the series, it's due to his finances. He lives wherever he can afford to do so. I felt he found a good apartment for himself, Koko and Yum Yum in Junktown. Junktown is primarily an antique community where the shops are owned by colorful folks. Most are likeable while others seem to keep to themselves.

A friend and I listened to this book on again and off again as we drove through the hills of California and Oregon. It was interesting and once the story got going, it was really fun. There's a nice twist at the end (it is a mystery, after all!) and it had it's moments where we were really into it.
In the beginning, it's a little sleepy and moves slower (although I do not know if I can attribute this to the author or the reader since we listened to the CD version), but mid-way throug More...

It's about a week before Christmas and the editor of the Features dept. at the Daily Fluxion is reminding the staff about the annual writing contest. Jim Qwilleran has just heard about an area called Junktown and offers that idea for a series of articles. He thinks it's a narcotics district - turns out it's a shopping district for antiques. During Jim's first afternoon in the area, he attends an auction and hears about the tragic accident suffered by one of the dealers. It is reported t

This is an early book with Koko and Qwill and the entrance of the famale siamese cat, Yum Yum. Qwill decides to do an investigative series on Junktown which is a place of antique dealers and collectors and dope. Then, a mysterious fall ends the career and life of one of the leading citizens. Qwill and the cats spring into action again.

The third installment of The Cat Who series is much like the first two. These books were written in the late '60s, so the vocabulary and dialogue is a little outdated. That is one of the reasons these are such amusing little mysteries.
There was a nice assortment of supporting characters in this story. As usual, Qwilleran has an eye for the ladies and they seem to like him too. It is hard for me to envision what "a perceptive moustache" looks like, but I am thinking along th More...

In this third book in the Cat Who series you see Qwill moving to Junktown where he is writing a local interest story. Instead of finding a local slum in Junktown that he had expected he finds out that it is a haven for antique dealers. He uses Koko to help him to solve the murder of one of the antique dealers. As usual Koko gives Qwill clues in order to help him in solving the murder.

I've read this book twice, and found things the second time I didn't catch the first. It is different in that he moves to Junktown with his cats, and they visit all the artisans and junk dealers that live there. You become a little attached to the different characters. Good read.

Another - and the last - solid effort in the long-running Cat Who series. There's plot, mystery, detection, and interesting, well-rounded characters. I enjoyed re-reading this; you don't even have to like cats to like this.
So why did this series tank so badly? Such lost promise.

A solid 3 stars. This is a good, solid plot for a cozy mystery. Qwill is smart and funny. The antique/junk plot is interesting and the villain is not telegraph as much. The fauna of characters is fun and not paper thin. We meet Iris Cobbs for the first time. Love her. So yeah, 3 solid stars.

These are charming and fun mysteries. I went through a binge of everything in the series when I was younger, but haven't touched them since. I remember really enjoying them, though, and both liking the main character and the twists to the stories.

This book is less memorible than the first two. It still does what the series does best wich is involve us in the lives of Qwill and the Siameses (Siameses??? is that right?). Anyway not as good, still not bad, and the cats are still smart.

I love these books. Pretty good little mysteries, smart, no violence and no surprise suspects pulled out of the hat in the last chapter. The first 3 were quite dated in language & some of the situations as they were written in the 60s, but still quite good. Will be starting the ones written in the 80's now.

I love these books--the main character is funny and really understands how cats think. I also enjoy these stories because they are mysteries, my favorite genre.

These books are all so darn charming. I'm enjoying this re-read of the series. I love the main character and his concern for and devotion towards his little feline pals. The mysteries are always kind of incidental to me. I so enjoy the characters and the setting.

I enjoyed this audiobook, which gave me more background history for the rest of the series. Enjoyed seeing how Qwill met Mrs. Cobb, and the storyline about antiques was pretty interesting, though not very deep.

So that's who Mrs. Cobb is (I met her out of sequence in #6) Just more fun and intrigue. Further reinforcing the need to read this series in order!

Always listen to the unabridged editions by Guidall. You don't want to miss any of these stories! #3 in the series.

A nice, easy read! Great escape / stress relief! Really like this series for simple, quick reading.

Disappointed that the mystery got lost in the antiques and cats. Finished the whole book, though

Probably Braun at her peak. Sad that she kind of lost it with the last several books.

I'd probably give this one a 3.5 stars - I didn't LOVE it, but the glimpse of the antiquing world, and the clever cats, was enjoyable.
