I am stunned by the mostly poor ratings this book got. It's the first book in a series. I was in a used bookstore and they had several carts full of paperbacks for 50 cents each. I bought this book and book #2 and believe me, it was one of the best half dollars I ever spent! The series features Megan Clark, who has a PhD in Forensic Anthropology and Paleopathology (think Dr. Temperence Brennan), as the protagonist. She's looks like a cute little red-head but has a fiery personality. And she work...more

I bought this after getting suckered in by review quotes from a favorite author. I was really disappointed. As I am unsure exactly where to begin, I'll list my grievances:

1. I'm not a super-sleuth mystery reader. It is actually quite easy to surprise me as I read them for enjoyment and not necessarily to be challenged. However, I knew from the very first introduction of all the suspects who the killer was and why. It is that obvious. Thinking that one was going to be pulled over on me, I plodded...more

This light cozy was an enjoyable way to spend a rainy Sunday! It started out a little slowly, but picked up somewhere in the middle. I found Megan a little hard to imagine for some reason though. I was also a little creeped out by her relationship with Ryan, but whatever.

Eh, not the worst book I've read, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped I would. You'd think that a book about a mystery book club that a librarian joins would have my name all over it, right? I thought the plot was a little drawn out, and alternating chapters from two different points of view made the story a bit disjointed.

Eh. Idk. Not really into characters that do stupid things just to move the plot along. Plus, the age difference between the main characters just feels awkward and weird.

Megan and Ryan join a mystery book discussion at the local bookstore. When one of the members is murdered and Megan is the main suspect she tracks down the truth dragging Ryan along with her.
Fun cozy. The main female character bothers me a bit but can still identify with her. There is copious amounts of mystery writers info. They mention Elizabeth Peters and Agatha Christie which made it interesting. I also liked the way the story was told from two different perspectives yet they did not repeat...more

it was only alright much to dragged out

Nice whodunit.

I thought this book was just ok. I don't plan to read any more by this author because I didn't like how the chapters flipped between the two main characters as if they were telling the story. When Ryan Stevens "spoke" it was definitely from his point of view, but when it was Megan's turn it was more 3rd person. I just didn't like it that type of writing.

The story in itself was good and I actually figured it out near the end but not the "why".

This is the second of the series loaned to me by Jona. I read the first one quite a while ago so had forgotten the characters. The mystery in this is pretty obvious but I did enjoy the characters. It will be interesting to see if the romance between Megan and Ryan proceeds in the next few books. I have the next two on my shelf thanks to Jona so I guess I will find out pretty soon.

I am not sure how I felt about this. It was slow going and there were many references to other mysteries which I have not read so I felt I was missing out on something. The chapters flip point of view and I have read other books that have done that but I found it distracting this time. Almost like they were two separate stories instead of one that was weaved together.

Book #21 read in 2008

This book was a little slow to start, and I'm not sure why someone other than the main character narrates the story. However, about 70 pages into the story it finally picked up. I will probably check out the next one in the series before I decide if I read them all.

An okay read. I don't know if I'll read anymore is this series or not... I did not like the main character at all nor how she treated her supposed "best friend" but the other characters might intice me to read another one, since I already own it... I'll have to think on it!

This book was painful to read.
The dialogue was HORRIBLE.
The characters were ill-conceived and flat.
The plot was weak.

This is a "wannabe" murder mystery that FAILS miserably.

I liked this work. While it can be tricky at times with the switching narrators, this is very enjoyable book that weaves togethers plot elements from classic mysteries

D. R. Meredith, Doris to friends and family, has a split personality--one is that of a conservatively dressed legal secretary at her husband Mike's law firm. At night she turns into Mrs. Hyde dressed in jeans, flip-flops, and Texas Rangers' tee shirt and commits bloody murder.

She is now in double digits. In her fourth book in the Megan Clark mystery series, the 18th...more
