It’s been two years since Devin Guthrie last saw Captain Makaiden Griggs. But time has done little to dampen his ardor for the beautiful take-charge pilot who used to fly yachts for his wealthy family. While Devin’s soul still burns for Kaidee, she isn’t the kind of woman a Guthrie is allowed to marry—especially in a time of intergalactic upheaval, with the family’s politi ...more

Rebels and Lovers is book four in Linnea's Dock Five Universe series. Devin Guthrie is the youngest brother of the very respected and powerful Guthrie clan. His oldest brother, Philip, who's an admiral and the newest commander of the rebel forced of the Alliance is now somewhat of a black spot on the Guthrie name. Devin is the complete opposite of Philip. He spends his days surrounded by a glass-walled office working at his family's corporation, the Guthrie Global System's financial headquarters ...more
Another great addition to the Dock 5 universe! I've loved each of Ms Sinclair's books, the ones set in the dock 5 setting as well as Games of Command and The Accidental Goddess - my only complaint is that I want more!

In this book we see more of the Guthrie family. Devin is the youngest brother, and as he sets out to find his 19 year old runaway nephew he runs head first into his long-lost and long-unattainable love Makaiden and a nefarious plot against his whole family. This is a touching love s

Excellent book. Linnea Sinclair is one of the best science fiction romance (or "skiffy rom" to the inner circle) authors out there. I believe we've got every book she's written, and they're all great. (Gush, gush.) Seriously, this is good stuff. Her past few Dock Five Universe books have focused on the Guthrie family; this one deals with Devin, the seemingly shy, nerdy scion of the Guthrie clan. Trying to find his brother's runaway son, he meets an old flame, and both mayhem and romance ensue. N ...more
I'm a big Linnea Sinclair fan. This book is #4 in her Dock Five universe series, which begins with Gabriel's Ghost. The heroine of GG (and the 2nd book) is the ex-wife of Philip Guthrie, who is the older brother of the hero of this book. (Are you confused yet?)

Devin Guthrie is the youngest son of the mega-rich, ultra powerful Guthrie family. He's always done what was expected of him, and since he's good with numbers, he's been tapped as the CFO for the family business. Now he's been called home

******* Warning: VERY MILD SPOILER about Philip Guthrie FOR THE FIRST TWO BOOKS (although I think this book can be read without reading them) ******

The Premise: In Hope's Folly, the focus was on Admiral Philip Guthrie, a commander of rebel forces of the Alliance. Now the focus on one of his brothers: Devin. Devin Guthrie is the youngest Guthrie brother, and the quiet, numbers crunching, computer guru. He's had a crush on Makaiden Griggs for years, but she

I always like Linnea Sinclair and this was right on target. Good three dimensional characters, although I wouldn't have minded a little more exploration of Kaidee's early life.

I particularly liked that neither character ignored the fact that they were in imminent danger to boink and emote endlessly. Not that there wasn't adequate emotional story arc intertwined with character/relationship arc, but it didn't suffer from the "people, get a grip, they're trying to kill you" that rom

This is my first Linnea Sinclair book. I had really high hopes, but I felt kind of "meh." Part of the problem is that it's book 4 in a series so I think it expected me to know things from earlier books. The other part, though, is my wrong expectations going in.

First of all, it seemed like all the characters got together through sheer coincidence. (view spoiler)
Yet again Linnea Sinclair didn't disappoint. So far there's only been one book by her that I haven't liked, but all the others have been really good. Rebels and Lovers main character is Devin Guthrie, brother to Philip Guthrie from the previous book in the series. It was kind of interesting to have a bit more of a beta hero in the Dock Five Universe. He even has glasses! Woo! I wasn't in love with it as some of the other books in the series, but in general it's a good addition to it anyways.
Sinclair has built an interesting world here, and I liked the general idea. There wasn't much to make the romance stand above the usual "surprisingly competent rich guy pursues a girl from the wrong side of the tracks" type of story, though.

It still might have been a really fun ride if it wasn't for the glaringly obvious culprit. Having the villain basically twirl an evil mustache nearly every time they were mentioned got really distracting, and it frustrated me that a pair of supposedly intelli
this one wasn't my favorite, but its still fabulous!! I did figure out the ending waaaaaay too early.
Didn't matter.

Please Linnea Sinclair write more out of these!!
Ahh...Sci Fi romance - the best of both worlds. I have enjoyed all of the books in this series. I thought the romance was slighted just a bit in this story. We see Devin loving Kaidee which was great and believable and well written. Kaidee loving Devin back was a bit lacking. I did love her character though. I am fond of strong females and also of marginal just getting by sci fi characters. The story was strong and detailed. The plot was believable. The world is fully realized. You can totally p ...more

I have just loved all of the books in the Dock Five Universe by Linnea Sinclair: Gabriel's Ghost (Book 1), Shades of Dark (Book 2), Hope's Folly (Book 3), and now, Rebels and Lovers (Book 4). Devin Guthrie is the youngest of the four sons of interplantary tycoon J.M. Guthrie. The eldest son, Jonathon, assists with management of Guthrie Global Systems (GGS); next eldest is Philip, the only brother to defy his father to pursue a career in the Imperial fleet rather than employment with the family ...more
One of the (many) things I appreciate about Linnea Sinclair is that, while her books are all within the sub-genre of sci-fi romance, they never feel repetitive. In other words, she doesn't write the same story lines over and over, simply repackaging them for a new release. Not only are the plots original, so are the characters. Some authors write basically one hero who simply changes name and hair color from book to book. Same with the heroines. In Linnea Sinclair's books, however, the character ...more

I think award winning author Linnea Sinclair is the queen of Science Fiction Romance and she has written another winner in Rebels and Lovers. The fourth book set in the Dock Five Universe Rebels and Lovers continues to add complexity to the world started in Gabriel’s Ghost. As in all of Linnea’s books the character building is right on target and the plot is filled with action and unexpected twists. The romance does not drive the story but is skillfully woven into the action adding to the appeal ...more
Hands-down, this is my favorite Linnea Sinclair book ever! It had the perfect balance of science fiction and romance that I've been seeking.

I loved the main characters, Makaiden and Devin, wholeheartedly. Devin, who is reserved and wears glasses (eeeee!) but has an inner core of steel, is exactly the kind of guy I've always wanted as the hero in one of these books. Makaiden, who at the beginning of the novel has been dumped into a terrible situation that is truly not of her own making, is also
3 1/2 stars.

I still think Gabriel's Ghost is the best of this series so far due to the complexity of the plot and the characters, and the addition of some great supporting characters. But the others are pretty good too.

Sinclair has a tendency to use a formula for her heroes, of an admiral who has achieved his position early in his career. He is usually confident etc.--all the things you would expect an admiral to be. Sinclair doesn't always use this type, but quite often.

This time however, ins
Hmm... More of a 3.5 Not sure why; just didn't grab me. Maybe the real issue is we're told this takes place over 3 days but there doesn't seem to be any real way of determining that. Or maybe it's because there's nothing really happening beyond a lot of handwringing after they take off from Dock 5. Well, there's sex...and more handwringing, punching things up on some futuristic iPad, etc. Wasted opportunity. The former ImpSec spent half the book unconscious due to an illness, so the only person ...more

Recommends it for: sci-fi romance fans
Linnea Sinclair delivers another suspenseful science fiction novel that puts in the middle of the action. In this fourth installment of the Dock Five series, Devin Guthrie is searching for his missing 19 year old nephew, Trip. The boy’s bodyguard is found murdered and it appears the wealthy family is in danger as Admiral Philip Guthrie, eldest son and a leader in the Alliance, is wanted by the Empire. Whether the present enemy is megalomaniac and Imperial Prime Commander, Darius Tage is unknown. ...more

I'm a big fan of Linnea Sinclair's Dock Five Universe series. Ever since I read Gabriel's Ghost, I have been fascinated by her stories and have fallen in love with her heroes.

Rebels and Lovers is about the youngest Guthrie, Devin. With the Guthrie's family's reputation tarnished due to his oldest brother's defection to the Alliance, Devin is slated for a loveless marriage and a life of duty and responsibility to GGS. But when his nephew disappeared, Devin's life took a different turn, bringing h
I gave this book 4 stars. Normally, Linnea Sinclair is a 5* author for me. I have loved every dock 5 book.
This one was a slow start for me.
Things I didn't like. Even though the H/h had a history, in the book, they don't even meet up til page 95. I'm not a fan of that, I prefer h/h meet within first few pages, otherwise the romance feels rushed.
And this one did. Normally there is a very sexy intensity to Sinclair's h/h that I felt was missing from this book.
Devin was a very likeable character,
ALRIGHT after the train wreck of a Vaginal Fantasy when I picked Gabriel's Ghost for the group, I felt SO BAD because I really like this author, I just picked her worst work accidentally to feature. SO I am reading the rest of her books and I am NOT disappointed. This one is a really fun read, SF romp with a good relationship.

Devin and Makkaiden are a really well-matched couple, I appreciated how NOT Alpha male he was, in fact he was quite shy and reserved. I loved how there was unrequited histo
When Devin Guthrie’s nephew, Trip, disappears, Devin goes after the youth. He doesn’t expect to run into pilot Kaidee Griggs who used to work for his wealthy family’s corporation. He’d always admired her, but she was married back then. They locate Trip at the same time as some assassins, and the chase begins. The three of them team up to escape their mutual enemies. More is at stake than just a rich kid being taken for ransom. Betrayal, jealousy, and greed fuel a dastardly plot that originates w ...more
I liked it...a little predictable, but good. My only complaint is that I feel like the series is incomplete. There's a great world built, but we don't know what's going to happen with the ruling of the Galaxy, and Tage. Major flaw. Unless I missed it, it's been five years since this book, and I don't see anything coming on the horizon. I wish I knew this wasn't complete, or I wouldn't have invested in this series #wompwomp.
I am so incredibly happy I discovered Linnea Sinclair. I have been looking for sci-fi romances like this for ages, and hers are top-notch. Characters to care about, always, always an extremely robust sci-fi plot that's more prominent than the romantic plot. They're so entertaining that I don't even care about the unoriginality of her science worldbuilding (as far as I can tell, all her terminology except the alien words is borrowed from Star Trek).

I'm not always hugely into the romance aspect, b
Wow read! A science fiction romance with an action packed plot - so much suspense that you want to cancel niddling little details in your real life [work, school, eating...:] so you can finish it. Of course, then you want there to be more! Great lead characters and supporting characters, each wears their own 'face' very well. These are people you feel you know, people you admire and respect throughout the book. The love story is outstanding...

Although it is part of the Dock Five series - it can

I enjoyed this novel, although not as much as its predecessor, Hope's Folly. The 'A' plot was a fun ride. One of Sinclair's strengths has always been her action sequences, and these were no exception.

The 'B' plot--the romance--faltered. Unfortunately, Rebels and Lovers falls into a typical romance trope--the impediments between Makaiden and Devin could have been easily resolved if they'd simply had an honest conversation.

Instead, the middle of the book is padded with dithering on both sides, a
A delightful hero, great suspense, and another look at the Guthrie family. A little predictable, but thoroughly readable.
The plot in this book seems a little too heavy for the book, and it ends pretty open. I think both of these things can be explained by the fact that there was supposed to be a fifth book that ended up being scrapped – which I think is a terrible thing, because this series had the potential for an amazing finale.

As with the third book in this novel set, I find the relationship to be strongly crafted and completely realistic. The hero is very much the beta male, which I find an interesting departu
